In this video, I share my personal experience with the rental crisis in Australia and how it has affected me. I may be homeless soon, and this is not clickbait. I hope to bring attention to this issue and spark a conversation about solutions. #rentalcrisis #homelessness #australia
I never thought I'd be faced with the possibility of homelessness. But the brutal truth is homelessness can happen to anyone, and it's a growing issue in our society.

A million people in a year, 125,000 in January alone, with no additional homes. This government has utterly betrayed Australians.

i am a person in my 70s, i found myself homeless. I live with my pooch in my car in perth wa. We are not in the middle of anything because this is the new reality for renters. In my experience what goes up never goes down.

This rental crisis is beyond a joke and something needs to change.

Hey, This may sound a tad weird. but. where abouts in Queensland are you located? My partner and I are located pretty much next to the Airport here in Brissy. we are also renting but the owner is renting privately and she has been extremely lovely to me over the last 2 years i have rented with her, she has also mentioned to me that she has no intention on selling the property any time soon. all she's asked is we keep the place clean and mow the lawn lol. it will only be one room's worth of space as we have a spare room we are not using (we had a friend renting it out who has since left). from memory, I think it's 3 meters by 4-5 meters. we have a cat our self floofy flat-faced Persian. he was raised around dogs while he was kittin so he is pretty chill but I am unsure about other cats. no matter if it's a short-term stay so you can get back on your feet or a long-term stay. if your interested let me know and we can discuss further. I know what it feels like to have nowhere to turn. it's an absolutely gut-wrenching feeling, but do not fret. you will figure this out one way or another! 💖

I'm 18, with a recognised disability, I have no job and get no benefits and I'm homeless, relying on family and friends to take me in. This is the state Australia is in.

I'm 22 years old woman; an Australian citizen. I've been working every year since age 14 and a half. Since Decemeber 2020, I have lived in a caravan. Have had to move to many different properties because I don't have one of my own. We as Australians should be entitled to have atleast 1 acre each - to those who need the space. Some people need land because they have animals to look after, others have projects to work on, some have a homestead and some have a farm. It really is not a surprise however that EVERYONE needs a HOME! .
@pumba6099
All this is done on purpose they want this to happen.
@catfission
I had to drop both university, work and leave Brisbane when I stopped being able to afford living there while paying for my medical expenses. I moved to regional AUS and now I’m seeing people fight tooth and nail over extortionately expensive rental properties in my regional town too! We are all running out of options. Something has to give because this is beyond unsustainable.
@misaandcoart
This is legitimately my biggest fear. Being that my partner and I are only cleaners, we can't afford a rent increase let alone this situation. It actually makes me scared. I hope that you're able to get a new home soon!

Hi. I'm a landlord in SA. I'm hoping the tenancy laws are similar. But your landlord has to give 3 months notice. They can only terminate the lease if they are 1. Moving in, 2. Selling. 3. Renovating. In each case, the property can't be reset for 6 months. Your bond clean does not require carpets to be cleaned. Your property manager should be pulling out all stops to rehouse you as you are a valuable commodity to his or her agency: a good tenant.

Thank you for making this video. It's one of the most important videos I've seen in a long time.

Currently live in a tent in the bush due to the rental crisis. I'm a male, fairly resilient, single and have no children. Man, I really feel for the families, women & single parents (and anyone else I've missed) who are struggling through this. My question is, how has this happened? People are having less children and the amount of houses is only increasing.
@somewhereelse000
Brisbane has become a renter's Hell. If I am forced to live in my car, I do not know if I would want to continue on with Australia's BS, as the stress of living here is ridiculous. Storage facilities are exploiting this situation by charging insane prices, so it may be cheaper to dump our possessions on the footpath. I am beginning to loathe the city and country of my birth, for it clearly wants to destroy my life. I wish you all the best in your search.
@denskiz1
I live in Sydney and have been living in my car for the last 6 months. The politics in this county is insane. Government is allowing half a million people per year to move here despite half the country having nowhere to live. Unfortunately we all have to suffer because people voted for these morons running our country
@BeeJ82
I’m so sorry you’re in this situation, it’s absolutely unfair. I’m in my 40s and found myself single and living at home with my mother.. at first it was humiliating but now I’m so very grateful my mum owns her house and I am safe and warm with savings. The rental crisis is out of control and I’ve lost hope in ever owning my own house. I hope you are able to find something quickly
@SmashingBricksAU
I hear you. It is nuts in every state in Australia. What makes it really od is that this is happing across the world. Good luck.
@GoldcoastSurfCam
Having 2 years of experience currently living in a van, my advice to anyone planning to move into a vehicle is the following.
@smguy7
This is nightmare for you and for thousands of people. I feel for you. Apart from Hong Kong, Australia is the world's most expensive country in which to live.
@user-ir7fi3ov6d
Thank you for posting this video. It is so powerful and shows the terrible human toll the housing and rental crisis are having on many thousands of people around Australia. I’m so sorry this has happened and hope you are fortunate enough to secure a new rental.
@SteveInQLD007
I feel for anyone renting in Australia these days, I hear stories similar to yours almost daily and it breaks my heart. I wish there was something I could do but all I know is, this country's changed since moving here almost 30 years ago, there's so much greed going on in this country now and it's disgusting, downright shameful actually. This country used to be called the lucky country but it's almost like you're lucky to have a roof over your head and lucky to have food to eat - all while big corporations, banks and politicians are making huge profits and salaries. Young lady, I really hope your situation changes for the better soon - I'm in QLD too and live not too far from a showground where there's cars, vans, tents and caravans parked and I know they're all homeless people - it's so sad. Have you looked at share housing, just a thought. Stay Safe, Stay Strong.
