"I am" a big fan of Theocracy, but I loved even more being encouraged by your comments after with the clear explanation of the gospel and critique. This music is entertaining for those who like this "genre", and especially when it can provoke great conversations that center around the Godhead and salvation in Christ alone by faith alone. Been listening to Demon Hunter before they even released their "Self-titled" album WAY back in the day. Ryan's vocals are on another level. I remember finding a demo disk that was being handed out at a "Christian Bookstore", and hearing "Through the Black"...I at that point had never heard anything so epic in all my days. Fantastic band, and I ALWAYS see them when they come to Portland, OR.

This song was written about James Hetfield's mother having cancer and the evangelist convincing her that she could "Buy A Blessing" You Cant Buy A Blessing !! James's mother gave the evangelist several thousand dollars. And he lined his pockets with it. That's the real story ! Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland, Jim Baker, And Joyce Meyer's who preys on women !! At 14 This was my first metaI cassette tape i bought just because it had metal in the name.I was amazed at this song.. I'm 56 years old now and people have said This helped them comptemplating suicide and seeking help... Lately that is not true with me.This seems like a release.I just want to go... You're right! Some of the Christian leaders back in the 80's that trashed them "fell from grace". It was those same leaders that lead to their album Against the Law.
I think Maynard understands that alcoholism, in the lyrics, is a product of a demon within the self. This is why he appears in this misshapen stature. So that he portrays the crippling behavior and debilitation that abuse brings.

The only thing you get from Monotheistic God (or any other religion like sports, celebs, material etc) is an armor to talk shIt to others and forget being a hypocrite. I understand the idea behind "We're all not Good...", and imo, that it is just an "idea" from man as a "catch all" to say no one is above the almighty church... or rather the people of power within. I question, if this was real, why tf would he set the bar so high, for people "Made in his image"? Like we were set up to fail from the start. And another question... There's so much to say but I have no idea where to start, the only thing I would like to point out is everyone keeps saying that he's not talking about being mad at God, I know he has done some interviews and you think you know everything but Maynard does not believe in God hence the "Fuck Your God" because as is myself, if there is a God, then he is no God of mine. You don't just get to sit back and claim you are perfect and everyone else is not worthy, but continue to let things like rape murder genocide war famine cancer disease child abuse child trafficking etc etc etc exist and at the same time be a perfect and good god. So what I usually do when I come across extreme Christians is ask this, if you had the power of God would you fix the world and stop all the things I mentioned above? If you were a good person, your answer would be a quick yes, so if God is all powerful and he can stop all this horrible suffering but doesn't, then again, hes no god of mine ..
This song can also apply to money, since everyone needs it, and some people go job hopping, always looking for a higher paying job, that their life DOES burn faster and will eventually go out of season, then they regret the things they never did because they are always chasing money. Since everyone will die at some point, we are all drifting on numbered days. :)
The song is specifically written to all the record labels who were trying to say Slipknot was done and trying to write them off. And the number 555 has many associations but the one they were referring to is helping you see or manifest your ideal life, (in many record labels eyes their ideal life would be with out Slipknot because so many had tried to write them off) so the lyric “If you’re 555, then I’m 666” Meaning you want to manifest your ideal life with out us? You can’t because I’m the beast(666), you can’t get rid of me!
