Phil also has a band called Down. The first album is NOLA. New Orleans, La. initials. Pantera is from Texas. Phil is from Louisiana. Down has a lot of great musicians like Pepper from Corrosion..you all know this though, right? Like Crowbar..etc. Anyway, Phil never quit playing. He did say that what happened with Pantera was his greatest regret. Everyone hated each other, and it shouldn’t have been that way.

@@joloj23 Phil and Rex both went on to Down, so they never hated each other. Vin and Dime were brothers and they went on to form Damage plan and they never hated each other. Rex, Vinnie and Dime were still ok. There was some ill will between Phil and Vinnie/Dime which started sometime after Phil's addiction got pretty bad and communication broke down. Phil was hurting in every way a person can hurt and said he needed time off after the events of 9/11 canceled the remaining leg of tour for the Reinventing the Steel. He said he'd get his back fixed, but he worked on Superjoint instead, and Vin and Dime said he quit talking to them. Vinnie and Dime said in interviews that they felt stifled creatively in Pantera, and after, just waiting for Phil to get it together, and that's why they formed Damageplan. They- all four guys- decided to do their own thing for a bit, and then things went sideways. I wouldn't say anyone hated anyone. They were family. They fought like family does sometimes. They said mean things to each other, like family does sometimes. Both sides publicly trashed the other, and I'm sure they all regretted it, eventually. Had Dime not been killed on the first Damageplan tour, I have no doubt the two camps would have eventually come back together. Rita said recently that Dime had been expressing regret about leaving Pantera and fighting with Phil before he died. We all know that Phil kicked his habit to have his injury fixed in November 2005 (11 months after Dime died, and four years after what would be Pantera's final tour), which did, in fact, put him out of commission for most of a year while he healed and learned to walk again, like he said it would. We all know that he loves Dime and Vinnie and Rex. We all know Dime loved Phil and Rex and his brother, Vin. Had Dime not died, Vinnie would not have held such a grudge against Phil, nor would he have a reason to want to avoid Phil. Seeing his brother murdered, and losing his brother in that way must have hurt Vinnie in such a profound way. It was all so tragic and unfair. Things would have gotten better, if there was time for the relatively minor wounds of squabbling to heal. They needed time away from each other to grow and breathe and figure things out, but they didn't get it because the murderer took that from them. Life's that way, sometimes.

Also from the south, Georgia, never heard of this. I was taught to turn down my radio when I pass a cemetery, especially when a burial was taking place.

I'm from Arlington, Tx and running into Darrell at the store or the gas station or even at a local band's show was not an uncommon thing. One of the most genuine people you could ever hope to meet. I miss him everyday.

@@phillipweber6059 he was extremely nice, this was right when cowboys from came it so they hadn’t blown up yet, but he had some random Persons kid on his shoulders running him around, he was giving away the stores guitar strings and his picks and was geeking out on My ultraman shirt I had on.

I just hope that when my time on Earth is done and I am called home that people can say a sliver of the beautiful things that people say about Darrell Lance Abbott. What a fine human being and what a long lasting legacy.

@@vanessaantonucci4335 Please do! I read an article about Mark Morton, the guitarist, losing a newborn daughter. The lyrics give away that it's about someone dying, but adding that detail about the loss of a child makes the song so much more emotional upon repeat listens.

I thought it meant that he finally accepted her death, and was going to see her grave. Meaning he literally is finally going to pass the cemetary gates. I also thought it was about her mother. Funny how many ways you can lookat the lyrics.

The thing was Pantera was so good Rex kinda got slept on unfortunately Vinny was extremely talented to the point where he was putting bands together because everyone wanted to be involved in stuff he was doing Phil as bad as things eventually got for him due to drug abuse was at one point one of the best vocalists of his era if not for drugs I think he'd of had a longer career at the top and would be considered one of the all time greats And Dime was Dime I mean he's towards the top of a lot of lists of greatest guitarists ever So Rex would of had to of been a once in a generation talent to stand out in that lineup and to his credit he was great just not to the same magnitude as his band mates
