There's another Detour from 2016 which is kind of a goof but a fun one. The dopey protagonist is seen watching the Ulmer Detour before his own misadventures take off.
I really dislike "action movies ". Normally that means a movie devoid of realism, wit, character development or social comment. I love The Nice Guys. I used to watch all the 1970s TV series (yes, I'm that old) which it references throughout. The back story of Holland and Holly March is really sad and informs their current actions but is more or less spoken of in passing, although as a huge bombshell. The pace is good, the chemistry between the actors really works and Angourie Rice is amazing. I still fail to understand why it wasn't a bigger hit, but think that now Ryan Gosling is an even bigger name than he was then, a follow-up would do really well.
anyone notice that the bridge crew is mostly female and in fact the male to female ratio of senior officers is tilted towards females and yet, because the show has good writing, acting and execution no one cares? It's almost as if the vast majority of us don't have issues with females characters, its that we have issues with crap writing
Great video! I rewatched both avengers1 and aou recently and came to a different conclusion than you, but I enjoyed how concisely you conveyed your points and analysis. I can really see where you're coming from! I especially enjoyed your comments about the score, I realised I hadn't considered it when talking about my overall impression of the movie.
If i'm honest, i don't get a lot of the hate Age Of Ultron gets. But then again maybe its because I'm an MCU fan that wasn't "there" when the MCU first started. I'm a fan that only really got in during the Endgame hype in 2019. So I've had a more retrospective view of the MCU when I could just watch the next movie and not wait for trailers and discussions online of the next one.
Great movie, great essay. I had to put it in my playlist on the beauty of black and white pictures: ru-vid.com/group/PLWaNkjXFJ0A2Hgq9NpUq7PgcPPz6oiQKj
this show inspired my optimism and allowed me to be honest with my peers at 25, which is embarrassing this late in my life, but honestly was an real tangible problem for me
Such an amazing show. I grew up watching South Park, family guy, Futurama, all the adult animated shows. Only started watching trek in my early 20s. Since then, I've always wanted a trek show like this. It's 400% perfection. The main theme is stuck in my head all the time, first really great main score since TNG theme (and Enterprise, but we don't talk about that, even if we love it 😘)
Thank for not showing your face until the end. I get so tired of youtubers inserting their face when all I want to see is the analysis of the film. Cutting to the purple background is 100x more preferable than giving in to vanity. Thank you, nice work.
My guy 40 is not that old. It’s always so funny to me when young people talk about 40 as if it’s prehistoric. Like if you’re over 40 you never had technology and you only used to play outside 😂just wait till you’re 40 bro
I avoided this show for so long because I didn't know anything about Star Trek so I felt like I wouldn't understand it, but I ran out of shows to watch so I decided I'd try it and if I was too lost I'd give it up But damn was it awesome! It did a great job of explaining things for people new to the franchise like myself without being too overbearing about it for the established fans. I kinda wanna get into the rest of the franchise but I much prefer animated movies and TV to live action ones so I'm a bit skeptical on whether I'd enjoy it or not
Try Star Trek: The Next Generation Star Trek: The Motion Picture Movie Star Trek: The Animated Series Star Trek: The Original Series Lower Decks is something I enjoy myself. I saw Star Trek: The Motion Picture in cinema a few years back and it's easy to understand. The Original Series is easy to watch as well.
What a majestic sweeping theme for Star Trek:Lower Decks composed by Chris Westlake. I remember hearing the music from Voyager by Jerry Goldsmith and it gave me goosebumps. Chris's music does it as well. If only Enterprise had such a fine score instead of that gawd awful song.....
Made in about week so I heard. Really defines the genre plus having a definitive femme fatale in Ann Savage who should have gone on to other more high profile films. She is unforgettable here.
@@arcticstar13 One of the negative changes however was making it a dirty silver. The Enterprise was a sleek, well maintained ship frequently washed and painted. This new Enterprise is closer to a Millenium Falcon than a Tic Tac.
@@Gaelic-Spirit I like that though because IMO the original Enterprise was a little *too* clean, made it harder to get a sense of the scale from the outside. In other words it *looked* like the small toy-sized model that it was, having lots of detail on each hull panel (which I think would make it look slightly darker anyway) looks like something that couldn't possibly be that small
This is basically TOS theme with a lot of modern-day flourishes. It's serviceable and corporate, not leaning to either the modern nor the nostalgic, but unable to make them to a cohesive whole. It's kinda what I expected from STD and Picard actually. What I'm saying is that Lower Decks' theme is a better take on modern Star Trek theme.
Indeed, it's actually original. LD is (ironically) the least compromised-feeling of the newer Treks - many of which I actually quite like, some of which I despise.
@@hamfan4449 uh yeah, pikes in the right ear. plus alot of the nacelle engine noises are on that side too. 16000kbs surround quality for settings and noise canceling bose headphones. it aint me dog.
@@KazeMunashii dont care, if you dont like it then buy a new head set or sort out your 1990s PC cos its clearly broken. well muppet i cant hear that and it is on your end as you are the only one complaining. buy a new headset or sort your sound settings out deluded one.
