Nice job but I have two suggestions. First off you should at least remove the pushrods when you pull that cam cover off. The reason is there is a lot of tension on some of those lifters because of the valve springs on any valves that happen to be open. You'll notice it's a little tougher to put the cover back on. The other reason is because you should pull the lifters out so you can reach in and check your camshaft and play. You need to check that and play anytime you fit a new gasket on the cam cover on the cam cover. The gaskets can vary quite a bit in thickness
That JIS screwdriver thing, I only found out about about 10 years ago 😂 and I was riding bikes in the mid 70s onwards After years and years of chewing up what I thought was Phillips screws on Japanese bikes and impact drivers, and all that 😮 Incredibly well kept secret it seems seems to be 🤔it is really shocking how many people have never heard of Japan industry srewdrivers
Did you ever get these tuned up and working properly? I'm currently trying to tune a set for my bike and was wondering if you have any further insight.
How was your tune before (with a Super E right?)? How did your plugs look? I'm debating about a Lectron.... Do you think it's simply tuned properly now, and it's not necessarily the carb? I'm putting a wideband O2 sensor in my 2-into-1 pipe and I'm about to super-tune a Super E... Cool Shovelhead content. Subbed. Thanks.
Wow. I suspected that I did this when I put my carb back together. I think you’ve confirmed it. My needle jet fell out on disassembly. I saw some comments on Harley forums that said it would only fit in ‘one way’. Diagram of the carb was useless to determine. One website selling a new needle jet said that if it was installed incorrectly, it would cause ‘poor performance’. Looking forward to fixing this tomorrow. Thanks!
Great looking bike! Can I ask what lubricates that worm drive in the cone? I’ve had a ‘93 evo but nothing ever went wrong in there to make me wonder before.
I have just bought some brand new 38s for my zrx and on fitting straight out of the box it ticks over nice but bogs down when I try to accelerate. I’ve tried the screws at 1/4 to 1/2 turn out like it states in the manual and also tried 2 turns out but still bogging down. 🤔. What settings did you have on yours ie. Needle height ,main jets ,pilot jets and air screw settings. Also what was the fuel pump set at ? Any information would be much appreciated my friend. 🤔👍
Man, I had a used one I bought for my Grandson about 7 years ago. He said that he wanted a dirt bike. So I park for 6 years. I took it out , gave it a good washing, added fresh gasoline, I removed the aircleaner duct off the carburator. Then I put a lithium jump start. Turned the key one pushed the starter button, and to my surprise her came running. Now the grandkids are riding her again. Nice fourwheeler for the little ones.
I'm glad to see you got a better place to work on your projects I think the mini bikes are awesome they are so much fun keep up the great work my friend good to see you stay safe be blessed
This video has saved my Year! I've been struggling with my Evo Sportster for a month, exhausted so much time and money into trying to figure it out. Thank you sir! This needs to be an easier video to find. Hopefully this can point folks to this video. Symptom: Bike stalling when giving gas. Motorcycle will not run off choke.
I just picked up a ZRX1100. I'm 24 and i like to work on my own stuff... My neighbor is also into bikes. I met him through bikes... Anyway what does this have to do with anything! Well today he and I cleaned the carbs in this bike for the first time. It took us 4 hours undoing bolts that were stripped and removing hoses. The PO (Previous Owner ) had thrown some pod filters on there but DIDNT Rejet the bike. What was weird though was that someone for sure went into the carbs: all the main jets where different not a single one matched... And man those carbs haven't been cleaned it what looked like a while. Flushed all the coolant and put in new spark plugs.... Only to just now find this amazing as video you have here!!! You've gone over all the mods that I plan on doing to the same bike... call it fate! And you're good at explaining what does what. I've saved this video! The bike is running very strong, compared to my 08 Honda Shadow that I own; its fast and pulls hard. I plan on purchasing block of plates, since doing all the maintence today I know that if you treat a machine right it will forever bring you joy. I am running a full Delkevic Exhaust, Pod filters and just rejeted the carbs with a Dyno Jet kit. Next up is block off plates! Edit: So I recently installed block off plates to my ZRX1100, now its running rich and popping a lot more on Decel... I went from 132 dynojet mains to, 128 dynojet main and its still rich... Any insight?
Wow! I need to call sudco . Seems easier after watching your video. Went out and #4 on 1983 gs1100e with rs mikuni had screw out( fell off?). Wondered how to get it back correctly. Found your video and bang! Got it running good again. Thanks, Bob
