That high shove to knock down opponents is very interesting! It looks to me as if he waits a half beat for the opponent to be in mid-step back when their feet are together while the hands of botth combatants are high. Fabian has a wider stance, thus more stability and better ability to generate power while the opponent's narrow stance plus the pendulum of push their hands past their center of balance is what seems to do the trick. If Fabian was early or late in the push, I don't think it would be nearly as effective and would likely just result in a high shoving match. Wonderful stuff, executed with precision! @TurulHEMA Год назад
@@ivancoviello2690 I am not being sarcastic. Allow me to clarify. My understanding is that you dislike my use of the translation "Guard of the Lady" for "Posta di Donna" as you state it "exactly" translates to "Woman's Stance". Your evidence for your argument is that you speak Italian, therefore, you must be correct. You also ironically present this evidence in incomplete sentences, poor English, and many spelling mistakes. My argument is translating is not as simple as replacing one word for the "exactly" equivalent word in another language. Translating a phrase is done best when you take that phrase and convert it to the closest equivalent meaning. I n this example "Posta di Donna" sounds perfectly acceptable in Italian. "Woman's Guard" sounds clunky, awkward, and doesn't flow well in a sentence. In terms of meaning (the purpose of a translation) there is no difference. There is quite literally nothing lost in translation. So I reject your statement that your translation is automatically better than mine on the basis of "I speak Italian". I say "Woman's Guard" sounds clunky as hell, as evidenced by the fact that I speak English!
@ivancoviello2690
@ivancoviello2690 Год назад
@@TurulHEMA Basically i agree with you. But I just want be precise: Lady mean noble women, and woman mean woman. Guard of the lady si traduce in Guardia della signora (noble women). @MySephiroth91
@MySephiroth91 10 месяцев назад
@@ivancoviello2690 Actually, his translation is more right than both you and he know: "woman stance", as you say, is philologically, conceptually and literally wrong, as it ignores the strong social undertones the word "donna" had in medieval Italian. Donna means woman in today's Italian but not in the Middle Ages, as it derives from the latin "domina", i.e. lady or mistress, and up to the XVIth century at the very least it still retained its original meaning. The word "fem(m)ina" was used instead: try to read the Decameron and you'll immediately notice the strong difference in the use of these words. Why do they handle swords for this? They have to throw them away and fight like monkeys. In special, if there is no tatami. In this case, the bigger and stronger always will win because the "swords" are not sharp and the technique will not prevail. I hope that the community understands the stupidity and illegitimacy of this grappling in competitions. Sooner or later the law will prevail because otherwise, this sport will be a sport of psychopaths with no future. The reglementation for this "grappling" is weak resulting in dangerous situations. For example, they have to fight just if they are in the same weight category. And with tatami.And other rules...
@TurulHEMA
@TurulHEMA Год назад
I am unsure if you are trolling or just unfamiliar with HEMA. Your use of the words "monkeys" "stupidity" and "psychopaths" tells me there is little point in this reply as you seem argumentative at best. Regardless, I will attempt to clarify. Grappling is uncommon as most exchanges end with a cut or a thrust. The feders, or training swords are obviously not sharp, nor should they be. I fail to see how a lack of a sharp edge means they need to be thrown away. Often, the opposite is true in grappling as you can use the handle to hook your opponents forearms or threaten your opponent with the pommel. So best not to throw it away. Regarding "the bigger and stronger will always win" this is simply untrue. I have won many grapples with people much stronger than myself through the use or surprise, speed, and techniques. I have safely and clearly won grapples against people nearly twice my size. HEMA does not use, nor do I think requires weight divisions. It's a martial art. Sometimes fights aren't fair. Learn to adapt. I have no idea what you mean by "the law" but I am guessing you talking about safety? While there are risks with grappling, there is a wide range of different safety rules which vary from club to club which aim at minimizing these risks. For example, only allowing standing grapples, allowing only 3 seconds, or only allowing on grass or padded surfaces. While there will always be risks, these risks does not mean an entire aspect of historical fencing should go ignored.
@dorneanudoru
@dorneanudoru Год назад
@@TurulHEMA ,let's clarify : first of all I am practicing HEMA , also I practiced Judo, Kyokushin karate, Kali-Escrima, Wushu-Chinna and even Taiji. Why they have to "handle" swords if they are committed to take you down just with grappling? They usually are throwing an Zornhau or something flashy to distract your attention and after that they are charging like a bulldozer to put you down and this because they know that your blade is not harming them at all. They need just to inflict pain and damage to disable you quickly for the rest of the match. Because they have blunt blades and over protections, they know that the biggest damage they can inflict to the other one is achieved by throwing de adversary hard on the floor or attacking his joints. You can see even in this video the uncontrolled throws direct on the unpadded floor. Imagine just what is happening if they fall on the cross guard of the sword pinned accidentally in the floor. For this I am asking why is necessary to have swords if they need to do grappling instead of fencing. If they need to do wrestling, they can compete in Ringen competition Many practitioners are real psychopaths with the will of harming, not of practicing fencing ART. They don't have any elegance required by the term of ART (H.E.Martial ARTS). If you are harming somebody with bad intention, YES is about violation of the law. Don't tell me that if somebody stronger and heavier is coming to you, with intention to flat you on the ground, you will win, even if you can't protect yourself with the hands because they are occupied with handling the sword. Of course, I can be the greatest master on the planet, or Yoda, but not everybody is. What are you doing with them? Hospitalize all of them because HEMA "regulation" admits this? Or because of historical accuracy? What's next? Beheading? "Not mean an entire aspect of historical fencing should go ignored"? Not, but have to be establish clear limits. Yes, you can do demonstrations with the "accurate" historical applications, but just like demonstrations of staged fighting done in jiu-jitsu, judo fighting katas or Wushu-Duilian . But in a fighting sport competition have to be forbidden. If you need to have safe competitions. So, in conclusion, yes, we have a lot of stupidity in the regulations and also in this "sport" we see a lot of "psychos". In HEMA we don't have clear experience grades, age or weight categories and this mean that is necessary to have regulations about proper usage of the weapons and techniques. Is the same as to don't be required the 800N resistance of the equipment for the competitors. On your logic everybody have to compete as in middle age with no protections. This is the reason why HEMA is not accepted in all counties as legal sport with legal federation. In my country isn't.

I think the best way to counter the fabain thrust (patent pending) would be to follow Fabian’s own counter to it, side step and displace the point. Martin’s entire style is based of rushing the adversary, so if you target his legs, and move laterally with multiple cuts, you have a decent chance. (At least I’m terms of style, Mr. Fabian is very fast and a very good fencer.)
@ericnesbitt1734
@ericnesbitt1734 Год назад
hmmm I've never fought Martin Fabian so I can only speculate, but I've fought a lot of fencers who thrust explosively and I'm a more a cut orientated fencer myself. Maybe I'm just not good, but countering the explosive thrusts is really not that easy stylistically, it is probably the hardest thing to defend against off the top of my head. If you move laterally and cut (such as the meyer rose) it helps but you also create timings were you are vunerable, often the cuts don't really threaten the other fencer, also the other fencer can easily feint the thrust and wait for a point to catch you as he gets the distance just right. Targeting his legs is also very risky even with a one handed cast, as it leaves you very open to a thrust counter, you might get the leg but its no good if it costs your head, if he primes his thrust from fool/alber the legs not even an option. Side steping and displacing the point works great if done perfectly in indes, but tends to be a low ratio as you need to have read your opponent perfectly thus you know exactly when he's going to lunge, the opponent has the initiative here if he faints and you move even a fraction your dead, he can also turn his displaced thrust into a zwerch easily. In my experience to pull off countering the explosive thrust (without doubling) there is no easy solution but rather a combiation of things. Very on point distance managment and awareness, you want the opponent to commit to his thrust when he's not quite in range so he falls short as you retreat and move to the side. But you need to provide enough threats so that he cannot walk up very close and lunge a thrust such that you cannot react. You don't want him to control the fight with his potential to lunge into the explosive thrust. Sticking your point out and fighting for the centreline while moving so he has to worry about running into your sword will buy you a little time, but your unloaded so you have to be very careful you don't just give him your sword. I prefer ochs for this because your still loaded and the short edge can displace the thrust but you have to retreat diagonally so he doesn't get you in the armpit with the thrust. Generally I would not recommend dancing with someone who has an explosive thrust just out of cutting range as is typical, he can control the fight best here as he starts locking on for the thrust, and you find yourself becoming a puppet with him pulling your strings. You want to close in out of that distance fast when you are trying to gain the initiative or be too far out to thrust when your not ready, leaving the indes counters to thrusts as a last line of defence. If you can threaten his hands or take the centre with your point and get closer where all your cuts can reach him, and force him out of his primed thrusting guard to parry you. You can bring the fight to a place were he is too close to use that thrust and thus rob him of it. Although someone like Martin is very good in that distance as well you can see this in his sparring video against Dustin reagen, where Martin hardly thrusts, Martin is very good at chasing into a opening and exploting his opponents weaknesses.

@TurulHEMA
@TurulHEMA 2 года назад
I am curious what your interpretation of stabile and instabile are. To clarify, I am trying not to wait in Fenestra. Sometimes I get stuck in fenestra as changing posta while in measure can be risky depending on your opponent. If your opponent is aggressive, they can attack in between posta as these transitions generally present less threat. Now, if your opponent is defensive changing from fenestra to corona, or any other instabile posta is fine as you can confuse them and make them create an opening you can exploit. The manuscript states “She moves quickly from this guard to other guards to confuse her opponents”. So my interpretation is that Fenestra is something that shouldn’t be waited in as a general rule of thumb, however, you should also be cautious about changing posta while in measure. Tactical flexibility is greater than adherence to the manuscript. Considering Posta Longa is also instabile, does that mean no one should wait in longa? How long is too long to sit in longa? Are the Stabile, Instabile, and Pulsativa categorizations of posta integral to Armizare, or are they footnotes made by someone else who, perhaps, never knew Fiore or his art?
