Thanks! That knot was amazing and I already got 3 pikes and the knot seems to be really strong. My dad has always done my knots but now at the age of 20 it was time to learn to do these by myself, so thanks a lot!
I used to use the palomar knot exclusively. Several years ago i was on a charter fishing trip and i asked the captain what his favorite knot was. He said the uni. I learned it and havent used any other since.
I always make a knot at the end of the remaining line, to prevent it from slipping until the hook is untied. Sempre faço um nó no final da linha que sobra, para evitar que escorregue ate se desfazer o amarrado no anzol.
The first time I tied this knot I followed the video exactly with 16 wraps and six half hitches. It was easy and the knot didn't budge. My theory is fewer wraps is better because its easier to get them to cinch tighter to the mono than more wraps. Great tutorial, thanks.
Just tried this on 20lb braid/8lb fluoro, which suffices most casual freshwater fishing. Ain't no way in hell this will work. It's too tiny to keep managing the overlaps correctly. This video should have a disclaimer where it will work on larger sized lines, or at least a line minimum.
I love this knot. I've used it with anything from a fishing hook to the hook at the end of a chalk box. Licking the sting helps sench it down but it is not at all necessary. Especially if you use it to tie the hook on the end of a chalk box. Chalk doesn't taste good and you will get a (typically) red colored line across your face.
LOL. It's a great knot, and maybe the best video I've seen on tying it. But come down to the Texas coast and tie it on the boat with lighter line and a 25 knot wind blowing. Figure out what is the second best braid to fluoro knot and do an easy video on that next. 😁
I've done this knot.. And learned the weakest part of my line should be at the hook. Other wise you get a snag and you lose everything. I still go look at the line in the tree that has everything still hanging there. Now I tie a square knot at the hook and if I get a snag I just lose the hook but on the swivel I tie a uni knot for sure.
I appreciate that you didn't speed through the half-hitch parts of this knot. I've watched several videos where they focus on the wraps and then the half-hitches are an afterthought - for example, in other videos I didn't see that the first ~3 half-hitches go over both the leader and the braid. Thank you for going through every detail.
Good video! But please redo with 8lb braid to 6lb fluorocarbon. A lot of us guys up north use this combo. It's almost impossible to tie using your technique. Lines are way to limp
For that light of line I wrap the braid around my right pinky and then just put the rod wedged somewhere so tension is kept on the other side. Then face the rod and you have tension and go nuts. Easier to pull the lines tight with lighter line that way.
My dad passed away on March 11th 2024 after a sudden cardiac arrest. I'm his only daughter and just turned 19, we used to go fishing every year on my birthday and I really miss it. There are a lot of skills of his that I didn't get to learn, tying a fishing hook is one of them. Thank you for this video, now I'll be able to keep me and my dad's fishing tradition alive hopefully 😊🙏🏽
I’m so sorry for your loss, and thank you so much for sharing this. My most treasured times and memories are those I have spent with my dad. I’m so glad this video was able to help in some way. 🙏❤️
