Hey Dan, thanks for keeping this footage up on RU-vid. I remember it well. Had a portable TV and was watching while giving info on the radio station where I was on the air. Nothing came from the network, all I had was the TV coverage.
Yeah, but you're still coming in for your shift at 8 pm right? Don't be late, you need to plan ahead to be on time. You should expect a significant earthquake at any time and plan accordingly.
i grew up in St. Helena and went to school in Napa, Ca. I remember Ralph our high school bus driver playing KFRC on the overhead radio. It was Dr. Don who kept us company during that 30 minute bus ride. Rest in heaven, legend. I will never forget you.
That was so long ago when I did that report. To this day, I often wonder how they are doing, where they are now, and if they got their lives together. It’s a story that has stayed with me all these years, long after I retired.
@@10TVMan Thank you for the report. It's 100% accurate. Manuel is my nephew and hope he is doing well. I had to get away from family and others to get myself together but in the process, I stayed away from people I cared about, like Meño, my nephew :( Is there another part to this report?
That was me too, grew up during the 70s and 80s while hearing Dr. Donald Rose on KFRC with his characteristic jovial sense of humor. I even had the pleasure of sharing a correspondence with him before he passed.
You will not see any damage from 2011 earthquake and tsunami around the city center, because there was non. However two districts close to the sea were totally swept away and there is nothing left there until today except for a hudge concrete wall protecting the coastal area, some agricultural land and the Arahama Elementary School which is a memorial and museum. Of course Sendai ist not only the railway station and the port, there are quite a few very nice spots to see, old temples, the Date Masamune Mausoleum, the largest Buddha statue in Japan etc.
That "hollowness" to the sound is the result of the fake-stereo processing this station was using on mono material, made even worse when played in mono as it is here.
Alameda girl here… loved KFRC! Dr Don Rose was the best! Just now seeing this y/tube. Thanks to the U.S. Navy, we left the Bay Area in ‘87. Majority of my Family is still there but, KFRC isn’t and that is a shame.
