Welcome to Hard Working Man! I'm Heath and my wife is Rachel. Join us as we do everything outdoors: firewood, habitat work, hunting, k9 deer tracking, maple syrup, timber harvest, tractors, building tools and equipment, outdoor cooking and smoking, I will explain what I am doing and why. Join us as we not only work on our home property but our hunting property and cabin as well. ! Come learn from my years of experience doing habitat work and hunting in the heavily pressured state of Michigan and I am sure I will learn from some of you as well.
Our channel name came from the fact that every time I was working on something I would announce to my wife. “Hard Working Man coming through”. We all know men work on an imaginary bonus point system. Whether it be picking something up at home, cooking, completing a chore, etc. This was my way to ensure that my imaginary bonus point was recorded.
I don't know what it is with mower dealers, but you're absolutely right! I've walked into dealerships with thousands in my pocket, knowing exactly what I wanted....they had to do nothing, except sell me the mower...and they still managed to drive me away! They ignored me; they tried to talk me into getting what was in stock, that I didn't want, instead of getting a unit that I did want...let me walk out the door after 10 minutes of standing there waiting for the answer to a question while the owner had a convo with a friend of theirs who stopped in... AMAZING! They're like a case study in how not to do business! All the ones around here have horrible ratings for service. They lie like rugs... I've been treated better by other businesses when buying a $10 item!
I'd always bought used mowers off of private people, and just kept 'em going myself. I really enjoy mowing and was getting tired of having to fix stuff after every time or two that I'd mow...so I just bought a new Toro Titan Max ($7500). Well...having a new mower is no diffrent than having a used one...except it's a lot more expensive! Nuts and bolts fell out before I even used it once! Deck carrier was falling half off, and one hydro is slower than the other.... But at least it's carbureted.....that EFI stuff is a nightmare (and expensive) to deal with. Carb I can fix myself in the field even, if need be. No mower needs the complication and delicateness of EFI!
Great video, great tips, Heath. Have you found that keeping a sharp edge on the blade makes a difference with the Axis? I've yet to sharpen mine. It still has the factory edge and it seems like it just smashes that first 1/8 - 1/4 inch of every cut, potentially leading to less control. See you at Bunyan
Great Video as always Heath. I do not make Firewood to sell yet. I am looking at a Wolfridge Log Splitter RS-V, Small One but about What I can Afford at the Present time. I have Been in Touch with Bob Nelson. Now I have to figure out when to get it. Probably will not be until Spring. I can't make the Paul Bunyan Show again. Some day I will though. Have a good time, say Hello for me at the Show. Best to Rachel. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
I had a splitter very similar same engine was a black diamond 25ton so 4in cylinder 2in rod 13gpm pump i still have it or frame at least now has 13hp engine predator engine 19gpm pump 4.5 by 2.25 rod from rugged made their 28 ton and a 25gallion hydro tank on side now have had it since 2018
I am going to go to the dark side of firewood soon and start stacking restaurant wood to season. I’m not sure if I’ll use ibc or weld up my own racks. See you at Bunyan.
I'm a tree service owner who just recently purchased a Timberwolf Alpha 6 with a boxwedge, and now Im trying to figure out the logistics of it all. I got myself a pile of wood..that's the first step 😂 New subscriber here
Them big buckets make for an efficient way to feed the axis . We also used a dump trailer backed up to the splitter and that worked good as well . We will catch ya next weekend at the show .
Penetrating oil is too thin to seal the piston to the cylinder. Pour automatic transmission fluid into the cylinder to about 3/4 full. Put the piston in and bleed out the air. When you tap the knob hit it like meant to. The taps you were using only created bubbles in your fluid. Years ago, when cars had grease fittings every lube service facility had a DYNA-Miter to clean plugged zerk fittings. I have the same tool you have and it never fails to clear the grease channel.
Ryan, google “bulk fluid delivery near me.” If the companies that are available aren’t too far,…I would suggest to just show up and ask to speak to the man in charge.
I watched this first machine for 30 seconds only before I queried why an auto-return switch is not installed. Having to operate the return lever just doubles the effort. Also have the controls on the same side as the feedin wood would simplify things even further, much better to roll the wood away from you than having to reach over and pull it towards you, just saying.
That’s a great little boxer for the price. They don’t have it at the local store at this time. I wonder if they will make it a corporate wide offering? Edit- I thought this came from Tractor Supply. We don’t have Family Farm and Home stores in N.C.
Wow! What an experience! I think I know what is wrong with your hydro. I have a Toro with "unserviceable" hydros that had exactly the same symptoms as yours with approximately the same hours. After 30-40 minutes, the right side whined and lost power. I watched a few you-tube videos and determined my hydro oil was degraded which I had suspected. I drilled and tapped holes in the bottom of both hydros to drain the oil and plugged them and refilled with new oil. I was nervous as a cat doing this but it was much easier than I thought it would be. Immediately the mower was back to running like it did when it was new, and has been for a full season. If you still own the mower, I would try this before giving $1200 to someone for a "fix" that may or may not last.
Heath, that doesn’t seem like a 5.8 second cycle time,…especially all the way down and back. 7:58 Appears to be more like 8+ seconds, which seems to be a little bit of false advertising, lol. Still looks to be faster than most box store splitters though. I’d buy it for a backup. Sorry, I commented before the end of the video, lol. I rescind my observed timing of 8+ seconds. Six is even better.
You know the old saying the man with the most toys wins Heath I got to hand it to you I would certainly say you have the most toys as far as log splitters go
Heath I still have my Husky 35 ton it’s on its second engine and still going strong. Now a days it’s my backup, and it gets the nasty knots and big rounds .
It's faster than the typical comparable splitter, but it seems to me that's got to come at the expense of splitting power, because it's got a 208 cc 6.5 hp engine, and power is power. You could, in theory, gain some speed by running the pump faster in the return cycle when you don't need hardly any power at all, but that's not what's being done. I looked up the manual for this splitter, and inside the manual on the specifications sheet is says '22 ton splitter'. I suspect that they're trading speed for strength, just like a tall gear in a car or truck. The fact that it fails to meet the advertised cycle speed even when unloaded is also a concern. I don't think breaking in the engine is going to increase the speed by 20%. It has a 3 year warranty on hydraulics/5 years on the mechanicals, so that's good. Since the 25 ton sticker is pretty suspect, I'd like to see a test with some tough firewood to see if it can handle it.
We need a measurement on the cylinder diameter. The fat stem makes it return fast. These people may not have recorded the speed accurately. Try timing five cycles and divide by 5.
Any tool that makes your life easier worth buying. That being said you have enough splitters/processors to be producing 10,000+ full cords per year, time to hire 10 people and step up your game. PS I still have my 35 ton Huskee as a backup splitter when the Ultra is down like it is now because of broken pull cord thanks to me letting my brother borrow it and his new employee broke it.
We have a Tractor Supply and Family Farm Home or whatever it is but nothing on their web site. Wouldn't be a bad back up for my little 30 cord a season operation, specially if it's under 1k!
