This Vocational Shop was a HUGE GRIFT when I ran the waiting list for the people that worked at the prison that wanted cars worked on. We also had an upholstery show next to it (my office was between the two shops. Employees can get cars worked on for free. Just pay for some materials if it's complicated. So they would buy trashed cars. Get them fixed for free and resale them. Or, although MAJORLY against policy. Lots of custom work was done for show cars. As long as they used some OEM paint along the way they could work around the rules. Although I was an inmate. I ran the list. Easily made 10k+ in "gifts" from staff to get their place on the LONG LIST bumped up. Kudos to all of the Vocational Instructors back there. They truly wanted to teach quality skills that could be used in real world settings. Mill & Cabinet, Masony, Welding, Uphostery, Auto Body, and Meat Cutting. Were the available courses back then. Pay was in the neighborhood of $12 to $15 a month per inmate. $48 was the max if you had "Special Skills" such as Clerical Skills or were a Lead in the shop. I was the clerk for the entire area.

I wonder how many of them guys are stolen Valor. Did 5yrs and saw lots of that bullshit. Luckily there was a sergeant on the yard that would weed out these shitbags out of Veterans Group...
I wonder why prisons are so overcrowded? Could it be that it's a better life for these felons than what they had on the streets? I could care less if they stacked you 10 high. Ca. prisons are paradise compared to insitutions elsewhere. If it's so bad, why do you keep coming back? You must have nothing else back on the block right homie?
