Hi Langom team- quick question - It seems when it comes to organizing the sale (title analysis etc.) the foreign buyer has 2 options but is the third option I list below one you see buyers use as well ? 1. With an independent Colombian law firm that the buyer will introduce to the seller once he has began communicating with the seller 2. With a Colombian real estate agent that will assist with finding a property / seller pre any communication with a seller 3 with both a real estate agent and independent lawyer ( to act as a safety net against the real estate company ) - is this scenario common?

I have a Schwab international brokerage account. Do I still need to set up a brokerage account in Colombia ? Or can I transfer direct from Schwab account?
If you are not a resident in Colombia and have to bring funds into Colombia and register those funds in the Central Bank as a foreign investment, the only way to do it is via a brokerage account in Colombia. If you are a resident, sometimes they might still not allow you to bring money in or register it as a foreign direct investment

They caught a lien on my condo PARKING SPOT placed in 1982 and not properly cleared in 1985 - it is clear but more specific recording required and walked us thru coming to an amicable resolution. I have them celaring out my Visa M mess after SOSE had a database corruption problem. Good English communication and support. Most US law firms could not touch them plus really reasoable rates. Education of clients is their forte wit many clear videos online.
I am buying a new Condo in Barranquilla from the builder. building is complete. I paid my Seperation to Fiduciaria Bogota with my american credit card. I was told I could pay the entire purchase price in payments with my Credit card. each time I go on I have to indicate the property and give my Passport information for identification. Is this method safe? I like paying with my credit card for the points and it is attached to my bank accounts so I can pay off immediately
Hi, Craig. If you pay with your credit card, you won´t be able to get a visa based on that. The funds to buy a property should be legally registered in front of Central Bank.
I have been in and out of Colombia for 5 years now. I could not agree with you more on Colombian banks ripping Americans off at the cash machine. The rate was over 4.000 mil pesos that day. Both banco de Bogota and Davivienda wanted me to agree to a 3380 and a the other a 3.464 exchange and hit me with fees. The outright steal from you. A bank that you did not mention was ScotiaBank. They are a Canadian bank who bought out Colpatria bank a few years ago. If you go to Colombia, get a Charles Schwab bank account. They charge absolutely zero fees for foreign transaction fees. Scotiabank being a Canadian bank with worldwide locations does not rip you off. When the Peso was $4.038, Scotia gave me a $3.992 exchange. Scotia bank also does not charge any fees to you (at least if you are using a Charles Schwab Debit Card). I only mention the above, because when you are dealing with hundreds of thousands of dollars, the exchange rate is vital when buying Colombian property when wiring money. Have you had any dealings with wiring money to Scotiabank in Colombia?
