Hi, I'm Matt. I mostly post freshwater fishing content but may occasionally post hiking/exploring and foraging content as well. I will of course post content of me catching fish, but will also try to educate you on what I'm doing and why I do it while on the water. For me, fishing isn't always about catching a trophy fish; it's sometimes just a way to escape the chaos of today's modern world so don't expect every video to consist of me catching a new PB. Ultimately, my goal is to take you on my fishing adventures so you can see what the great outdoors has to offer.
@thatbasssguy they'll eat crayfish occasionally so yeah, you can catch them on that. I actually caught a pike once that had a live crayfish in it's throat!
@thatbasssguy they'll go after many of the same lures bass will go for. I've done well with inline spinners, spinner baits, and topwaters in particular.
Nice fishing brother! Where did you find that calm river stream? I always go north of Irving Park Rd ,but stream is so strong and can not catch anything.
@Wonderbe0331 there's several forest preserves in the area. Allison Woods, Dam #2, and Camp Pine Woods all have parking within easy walking distance from the river
@@outdoorswithmatt4709 Retired recently and doing many day trips to Fox R and Rock R. Some DesPlaines outings. Love to wade in Northwoods WI rivers. Have waded Fox R & DesPlaines. Fish mostly from shore on quick hit days. Fished DesPlaines R around site of old dam in Riverside and downriver from canoe launch area to the south. Was amazed to catch a lot of bluegills and smallmouth. Saw some big bass, but these fish are cagey. Saw big carp, but didn’t have my usual corn kernels I use to catch these monsters on the Fox. Have seen folks catch some decent pike out of Fox R. And 20 to 30lb catfish. I have caught catfish up to 8 lbs. Fisheries have made a remarkable comeback since the 70s. Have caught many Musky up in WI. Would love to tie into one around the Chicago metropolitan area. There is of course, very heavy fishing pressure around the city area. Catching fish in heavily fished areas requires good understanding of structure and a bit of skill in presentation.
Ive fished this river, about half an hour south of where you're fishing, for about 5 years now. How do you figure out this river for pike/bass/saugar and such? Like how do you know what lures to use and most of all, HOW DO YOU AVOID ALL THE SNAGS
@DPR_Fishing Trial and error is usually the ticket to figuring out which lure to use. I've done well with topwaters, swimbaits, spinner baits, inline spinners and of course Ned rigs over the years. And trust me, I've lost TONS of lures and rigs over the years. Since I wear waders I can sometimes just walk over to the snag and free it
im sad cus i lost a huge pike biggest one ive seen in there btw spoons are very underated i almost caught that pike on a spoon so you should try a spoon
