"Medicating Normal", feature length documentary, 76 minutes

Combining cinema verité and investigative journalism, "Medicating Normal" follows the journey of five Americans - a newly married couple, an army combat veteran, a student, and a waitress. All suffered from problems that used to be considered part of the normal fluctuations of human emotion-mild depression, anxiety, sleeplessness-and all but one were seriously debilitated by the psychoactive drugs commonly prescribed to treat these issues.

"Medicating Normal" is the untold story of what can happen when profit-driven medicine intersects with human beings in distress.

Didn't y'all know that just having a personality is considered an illness?.. I was given haldol for extreme nausea due to pneumonia. I didn't sleep for a month, folks... I literally was about to commit suicide! If you are NOT crazy or suicidal say NO to any psych drug.

My Endocrinologist told me I had a dysregulated autonomic nervous system from the Klonopin. I have been off for over 4 years and I did taper too fast because I had no guidance tapering. I still have symptoms. I was on .T mg Klonopin for 18 mos. Was prescribed for anxiety and sleep when my husband was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and he passed away.

Sugar plays a big part in ‘bipolar’ Get rid of processed sugar and try only eating during an 8 hour window It does wonders Also, no drugs whatsoever 🤷‍♂️. Ur brain is a gift, don’t play with it. Took me too long to learn that

Drs do not follow up they prescribe and leave you on your own. IF you do go back they add another or just change. No counselling happens. You have half an hour if lucky to speak to them its actually wicked thst so many people are being prescribed drugs and there is no talk about coming off..itd really messing up people.

Was on them from age 17 - 22 every single day. Stopped in May 2024. Now 4 months later ive lost so much intelligence and life is so boring. I have memory problems, I am 10x more anxious than I used to be and they have destroyed my appearance. My bones poke theough my skin and god damn i feel so lifeless now ive stopped. They were everything holding my life together and little did i know stopping them would make my life living hell.

I was put on pristiq by a doctor when I was 15, 100mg, I was on them for 10 years I weaned off over 3 months only, it’s been a year now and I am SO SICK. I was so sick from day one to now, I have autonomic nervous system dysfunction, heart rate blood pressure issues, adrenaline issues, cognitive issues, extreme pain, weakness and fatigue, heart problems, the weirdest symptoms, my only option now to get better is to try to go back on it but if i do I run the risk of having bad side effects from them and it’s not guaranteed my symptoms will get better because it’s been so long and I’m so sick now, iv lost my whole life my job, everything. I’m always in hospital and doctors and specialists no one can help me. If anyone is the same please let me know, or if someone can point me in the right direction.

Your story is very common. You have protracted withdrawal syndrome. It will pass in time. Reinstatement can be risky as far out as you are, but could work. You might wish to hire Mark for a consult: markhorowitzconsulting@gmail.com

You get over it by small exposures. Your brain is not damaged. Most people in the world feel bad when inhaling toxic chemicals. That’s called being human.

These drugs were created with intentions of getting people hooked and obviously making money. I just can not believe I was dumb enough to fall victim to the scam. I was 100% healthy, all vital tests perfect, low body fat, just had some anxiety. Next thing I know I trust my doctor and I'm a full on zombie who can't even work. This is from SSRIs.

Actually, they don't! And "addictive" and physical dependence are two separate issues. The issue is when people are prescribed them by their doctor, with no warniing about the potential for physical dependence.

Unfortunately this field is a top down system and those who take bribes under the table for labels to exist so medications can be sold are equally able of manipulating the education that persists through dishonest propaganda like "evidence based practices" and "gold standard treatments" being touted by the very people they teach/brainwash to be charlatans for their pyramid scheming wallets. You'll get more accurate predictions from a psychic or tarot reader, but unfortunately, the labels those in power provide act in deceptive ways of manipulating not only vulnerable patients looking for any help in their times of need, but also the rest of society to easily dismiss the "crazy claims" of the so called "mentally ill" person, especially when they suddenly realize they've been eating the psychiatric dung for too long and aren't anything the so called "professionals" simply made them out to be. The only answer to me is to live beyond this field at this point because Noel is right: changing it from the inside (which I also dreamed of doing) feels insurmountable. Those who quit working on the DSM probably know better than most. May Paula Caplan rest in peace ❤ We need a million of her because I, too, want reform, but it's hard to believe in when this industry has such a glowing history of hurting the most vulnerable and its victims rarely getting justice. It boggles my mind how we rehabilitate animals with gentle, kind gestures, with a slow but meticulous approach to getting closer, but when it comes to our own kin, we slap a label on and say "You're the problem and must have always been." A lot of help that is! I've been out of therapy for 4 years? And in that time I've said no more with the labels, and with allowing my family to make me into their designated patient (which was also something the mental health field allowed them to do). You'd think therapists might have empathized and taught me how to speak up for myself, but they were no less my bullies who only fed into my abusers, my neglectors, my traumatizers desire: for me to be unseen and unheard through the scars they left on me. They only further taught how to not trust myself, question every thought or feeling I had, and to just be quiet instead of bothering anyone with my pathetic feelings. It's unbelievable, but now we have friends and family that will suggest we all "talk to a professional about that" of a conversation dares to get emotional or focus on anything but a toxic level of positivity. And then the so called professionals wonder why we have a loneliness epidemic? We can't talk about anything but the weather with most people because they now believe they're "not equipped" to deal with emotional topics thanks to the mental health movement currently convincing us that everyone needs therapy... Hello? It's wild. I could go on! But I am loving Noel's book so far. It is far more therapeutic than anything I endured with any of the charlatans I saw. And all this after just 20 mins in.. I'm riled up but looking forward to finishing this interview!

When you stop to think of how many patients the average family physician or psychiatrist puts on SSRI's (antidepressants), including themselves, family and friends, and the long-term results of these prescriptions. the cumulative misery effect is so large that if the physician really became educated, then they would be unable to live with themselves.

I wonder what Mr Timimi's views are on the research being done "Can biomarkers be used to diagnose attention deficit hyperactivity disorder?". I don't want medication, but I do believe that we need to look at how people who according to our current diagnostics have a disorders can be helped (without medication). Some syndromes are also not able to be diagnosed... Chronic fatigue syndrome for example. (sorry for any grammar mistakes, not a native speaker)

Children who have ADHD are often put in classrooms full of distractions. Is it any wonder they can't focus and concentrate when teachers plaster the walls with decorations and educational information. I think a less cluttered space would be better for kids with attention problems. I think the teachers mean well, they want kids to learn , but they go about it the wrong way. Putting kids on amphetamines is ridiculous. They say it calms them down, usually they just need more play time such as playground activities , young kids are full of energy because they are young! That's a good thing. I don't know I may be wrong but that's just my opinion.

I've been on Prozac off and on for about 30 years, everytime I try to get off of them , I go through withdrawals from hell so I just say to hell with it I'll just keep taking them, I'm not going through that again. The quack at social services thinks anyone can get off any drug in a weeks time, if replaced with a new drug. When I said I had a hard time getting off prozac, he seemed incredulous. I won't take the wellbutrin he wants to put me on because I have taken it before and to say it made me irritable is an understatement. I've done some research and found that the drug has been responsible for thousands of suicides and murders , maybe more. And the judges in the criminal system know this, but the old school, codgers don't seem to have a clue.
