My father had the NSU 200cc special edition, with the special petrol cup, commemorating the years of winning off track racing. Still have a photo with me sitting on this bike in the early sixties. Fond memories as a child on this super beautiful bike. At some time he had added a sidecar to take the family on holidays. What a pleasurable times indeed. Father kept the bike in immaculate condition until the early 70s, but unfortunately when I reached the age to ride the bike, he sold it to a relative. That was a very sad day. Still carry this photo in my wallet up to this date, at the age of 66. That says something about this most beautifully crafted bike.
Always a strong sign when a video gives me that "I wish it was me driving there" feeling. It's the early "cantilever' rear suspension version. My favorite. Great color as well.
Basically still the perfect motorcycle. Beautiful, well built, all the power you need for normal traffic but still enough power to get the heart going. The rest is decadence.
В этот байк вложено столько труда, что кажется в него вложили Душу. So much work has been invested in this bike that it seems that Soul has been invested in it.
Nice bike. Just a few very small hints from a Max driver. Unfortunately the rubber intake tube is not original and the steel tube for the wiring out of the engine is missing somehow. There where never chrome exhaust tubes on the Max. It were simple steel tubes with a cover screwed on. Also the muffler single piece and not original. You could improve the white lining, since it is missing in some spots and the single line on the fork never existed. there where long diamond shapes over the fork or three parallel lines with different length (center longer than the outers). And you should reattach the decompression cable since not using the decompression lever wears out the starter shaft and bushing pretty quickly.
First of all. Thanks. Now to complete your list of "things that are not factory original". The lining on the batterie and toolbox is missing, just like the metal tank stripe or the air pump. The rear mirrow is not original, as well as the liceneplate holder or the fuelcap. On top of that, the side of the tank should be chrome and not just silver. As I mention that, the color it selfe is also not original but actually RAL 6021. And there were defenetly never (aluminium grey) powdercoated parts like my kicksand, engingemount etc. - only paint back then. Also not availabel back then werde transparent silicone fuellines. The handgrips are barrowed from the smaller superfox (thats why they are each 5mm to short in length) Also i changend several bolts and nuts to either cap nuts or lenshead screws made of stainless steel. Exactly like the new spokes of the weels. Cumming back to your mentions - the exhaust was already done back in the 80's by the previous owner. The rubber intake tube is just impossible to find or way to expensive (I only found it once, bid 40€ on it and didn't get it), thats why i bent an left over ikea drainpipe in shape. The decompressionlever just broke of this summer. To justify all that: I did everything my selfe, and as I can't chromeplate - I just didn't. Same goes with the pinstriping. I tried it once on the fox, and the result was ... well not good, so I had to use pinstripe tape. But that doesen't bend that well - so the covers are not (yet) done and the front does not have this nice shaped stripe. But for now I'm fine with it, as working on an oldtimer never ends and and there are constant changes and new parts orderd.
@@motorcycleportraits6536 respect for you since you have done it all yourself. I might have a white rubber intake tube for the Spezialmax airfilter, just have to look and to check it’s condition since it is 20 years old. I have two Supermaxen, one relatively original and one in a similar shape like yours but with aftermarket shocks which are not very good.
They where not cheap... but the quality of the old bikes is absolutly worth it. And in comparison with the other brands like BMW they were still affordable.
