Enjoyed your vlog! :) Moving here in 3 weeks! Would you say it’s safe to live in Kaiserslautern city center?
@johnhix484
@johnhix484 3 месяца назад
I lived in the city center from 1984 to 1988 two blocks from the main train station. The only violence if you would call it that was when the workers had a strike/protest at the train station and the police brought in the water cannons. Although the cannons were quite loud, the crowd treated it as a comedy of errors and ran up and down the street as the water shot their way. There was even some laughter! Otherwise, the streets were safe 24 hours a day.

After a year in Idar-Oberstein, moved to K-town and was there the first time from June 1980 to November, 1982. I chose to return from 1986-89 - doesn't seem that long ago. I remember some parts but many places seem to have changed. Different time - and it seems the city if different (although just as nice).

They don't have air conditioning because the ENTIRE COUNTRY of Germany is farther north than Montreal, Canada. They don't get USA heat, but they have beautiful summer nights.

True. I spent 8 years in Germany. 3 military, 5 years DoD civilian. But there's about 2 weeks in the summer (around mid-July) where it gets pretty nasty. I always took leave around that time to go down south to the beach, north up to the North Sea, or just to hang out downtown drinking in the pubs. lol

I wonder if these German Aldi stores are the same as in the United States. Things will be different because in the US you get USDA Antibiotic & Chlorinated Chicken followed by Milk being in 3.78l HTST with hormones unlike your local Aldi which is H-Milch UHT 1L size no hormones. Regarding USDA Aldi Chicken that can't be sold in Aldi German due to EU rules banning Chlorinated Chicken. Even the Keloggs Cereal in Aldi Germany will not have High Fructose Corn Syrup BHA BHT present in the US Version found in Ramstein Super Bx & Commissary

tiny streets because historically grown towns and villages. We do not tear down historical buildings just to have larger roads. Even if roads are broader, nowadays a part of the road is marked and seperated off for bike lanes. Riding a bicycle in the city is enviromentally friendly and uses up less space than cars.

we pay for water and we do not have to give such high tip - the waiters can be payed over minimum wage because guests pay for water and do not get free tap water. You pay for water but you save tipping the waiters. You tip around 3%-5% and if service was good, you give some more.

Mhm are you sure? Electricity doesn't go towards your bills for rent. Electricity, phone and TV are always contracted separately by the tenant, not the landlord. And you are paying on a monthly basis. Though on electricity, you still have to pay up if you used more than you paid.

Oh ah! If the worst thing about Germany are SPIDERS then it really can't be that bad. No idea where you live in Germany, but I rarely ever come across spiders. That said, there are no venomous spiders, snakes, frogs etc. in Germany. *** There is actually a law that prescribes that there must be one drink that is cheaper than beer as in the past youth were ordering beer just because it was the cheapest drink. No joke! *** Be ensured that also Germans hate it you can't get free tap water and free toilets are unavailable as department stores are renting out the toilets so they don't have to take care of the cleaning. There are no refills simply because bars and restaurants are making money primarily on drinks given that the food is fairly inexpensive. So you definetely cannot bring your own bottles to a restaurant unless you want to get kicked out. *** I always withdraw cash when shopping at the supermarket. At Edeka, when you shop over 10 € you can make a free cash withdrawal for up to 100 € (if you have a German debit card). That's handy and saves me the walk to the bank. *** Yeah we have tried for years to change the long dark winters. No luck. Only advice: take a break in February and fly to Turkey or Spain. ***

Let me just add a remark: Möbel Martin is a local company which is only found in Rhineland-Palatinate. GI's stationed in Bavaria or Stuttgart will not have the chance to shop there. Some clothing products you have mentioned are not from Germany. Mango = Spain; Reserved = Poland; Primark = Ireland. I still love your videos as they provide valuable information about living in Germany.

Hi :) nice video, but if I may, let me add some infos: there are most definitely ACs. In most private homes there are not, but definitely in malls, supermarkets or other public buildings. (if they weren’t, food would spoil pretty quick) Gas Stations are exempt from the restrictions on sundays. They do offer a basic grocery selection as well, should you need something urgently. You are right, there are speeding cameras all over the place, but they only trigger when going more than 9-10 kph over the limit. Also fines are low in comparison. It’s different in Switzerland though, so beware. Also, autobahns are mostly unrestricted. There is a general “recommended speed” of 130kph, but as long as there is is no red sign indicating a speed limit you can go as fast as you like.

@@chrisp.chickin6510 Hi, German here who lived a decade in CA , NM and NY. Lidl and Aldi have upped their meat, poultry and fresh veggie game! That's what I get there or at the butcher. Most of my canned stuff and pickles I get at Rewe or Edeka. Penny has improved the last 2 years, I adore the extremely thin sliced alpine cheese there. Also.. The french fries from the cooled (not frozen) section. They place them usually near their curry sausage "kits". These are amazing and done in a circulating air oven taste like real steak fries!!!!! If you like fizzy drinks that are sugar free try "mezzo mix light". It is a mix of cola and fanta and you do not have any aftertaste of artificial sweetener!!!!
