Can we use ordinary rice to make it?
@SailorOdessa
@SailorOdessa 14 дней назад
You can try, but with a high chance fail, but if your succeed, the taste might be lame
@seiikei

what about thai glutinous rice, would that work? @@SailorOdessa
@SailorOdessa
@SailorOdessa 9 дней назад
@@seiikei I'm telling from my own experience. No. That rice was a huge disappointment. Regular rice was just lame. It should be a specific nice smelling rice, preferably from Japan. Other types just make it bitter, which is not a way for the dessert mochi. You can make it feel the same, look the same, but the taste will be bad.

Your narrating is competing so hard with the music it's brutal. You should turn the music way down for future reference

Do you ever add sugar to the mochi

I learned this when I lived in Japan. In elementary school we took a field trip to a Japanese school, it was amazing learning their culture and seeing how different it was than ours. We each had a Japanese student as a partner, and we got to make our own mochi! It was so cool and delicious!

Wait what - no sugar? All recipes I've found online include a ton of sugar.
@kevinerbs2778
@kevinerbs2778 2 года назад
the rice already is sweet rice? If they're adding sugar, they're probably just using regular rice.

My daughter sent me an Instagram post on how to make mochi because I used to buy traditional mochi for her when she was young. The "recipe" included ice cream bars and rice flour. I sent her this video.

It's always frustrating to see something being called "mochi" but then learn it's just dango. I like dango. But it's so damn hard to find *mochi* out here in the States lol.

I could understand the rice flour if it's *glutenous* rice flour (since whole sweet rice isn't accessible in many places) but ice cream bars? Why?
