Well spotted, I tried a different mic set up and did not realise until editing. By that time it was too late ☹️ Another lesson learned so hopefully will avoid that in the future 👍
Hi thanks for the video . Is this really needed when you own a ultim comfort mattress ? I mean , that mattress is very comfortable, does the height makes a huge difference? Thanks again
Hi, no it is not really needed. If you do not mind being close to the floor there is no need for something like this. However, if a person struggles with mobility issues or finds it hard to get off the floor then something a little higher off the ground is really helpful. When I camp alone am quite happy as a ground dweller and try to take just the essentials. If Mrs InfoZhed comes along then we go with a little more comfort. I would not but this again as a bit heavy. Have upgraded to Naturehike cots the ones with additional extended legs, much lighter and really solid to sleep on. There is quite a few options out there so if you go for an off the ground option have a good look around to find what suits your style of camping 👍
Why not grind 3 more slits at optimal height or even drill holes for steel pegs? Although I'm sure you could find something to raise the burner to the optimal level? Seems like a good deal to me and surely it's not that difficult to grind a mm or so off the hole to easily fit the Trangia? EDIT: my bad, I commented halfway through 🙂
I had the same experience. Those sort of stove are useless at burning wood, couldn't get enough heat to boil a cup of water. Gave up with a Trangia as I couldn't put the thing out with the snuffing cap. Couldn't get it to work with my homemade alcohol burners. I no longer have the tools i made to cut slots in sheet metal. I made a two pronged centre punch that could make a chain of holes accurately spaced apart, when drilled left a millimetre or so between them. That was removed using a punch made from a bit of broken power hacksaw blade. Worked surprisingly well.
A safe way to check for gas or air leaks is to get a jug or large bowl half fill it with warm water chuck in a load of washing up liquid and frantically whisk until you have a large head of bubbles like the head of a pint of beer ! Then you scoop up a handful of bubbles place it where you suspect a leak may be and if there is a leek it will be visually evident !
Osprey are renowned for squeaking. I've sent two back and am now back with Decathlon and *in my opinion; their fantastic new Forclaz MT900 Ultralight backpack.
4:45 this is not the way we handle this mess kit. You can hold all 3 pieces in ONE hand. The first 2 pieces you did right, now you have to swap the handle of the main cook pot to the other side. It will lock into a 90° angle. Then, you put the "bridge" of pan and cup across your palm, then put the handle of the main pot (that is locked into a 90° angle) over the "bridge" and close your palm. Now you can receive and handle main meal, sides and a drink with one hand. That's the clue to other once.
I believe the lids are Trangia mini Tundra LID for the 27 series set and Trangia Tundra LID for the 25 set. Not pretty but servicable is a Toaks 140mm lid, pinch together the under side bulge, a lot of adjusting needed as it curlles a lot. Only, eventually fits the 27 Outer Pot. Thanks for sharing
Well, I recently bought a new Thermarest X-Lite NXT. Amazon had the best price, near half what some hiking shops charge. Given all the excess layers you have there, it's probably cost you more that I paid, weighs 5 times more & takes up 10 times more pack space as well. I'm keto - no excess body fat at all, so the standard sized X-Lite is enough for my comfort. There are similar tech, though thicker cheaper, wider & only slightly heavier mats, Sea to Summit for example is generally regarded at the most comfortable. As far as protection from the ground, most hikers use a tent floor footprint such as Tyvek. Personally, I just use one of those extra thick & robust domestic space blanket/tarps as a footprint + thermal reflector under the tent floor & sleeping mat. I'm probably not going to camp out below -5C or so, so I don't need the X-Therm.
Hi, place called Goblin Coombe in Cleve, Somerset. Lovely place to visit and walk around. It does get fairly busy on the main trails with dog walkers. I have been going there for a couple of years and keep finding new places to sit and relax 👍
I've found a way of cooking rice that suits me. Bring twice as much water by volume as rice to a boil. Add rice and simmer for fifteen minutes with the lid on so as not to lose any water as steam. Take off the heat and let stand for five minutes or untill all the water has been absorbed. It will still be oiping hot. Add whatever seasoning, veg and meat at the beging. Way better than any dehydrated meal.
Thanks for sharing. I don't want to pay that kind of money for something I have made for free and works great, small and did I say free. I use a large bottle cap I fill with insulation I pinched from my attic and a small piece of window screen taken from a discarded screen. Bob's your uncle, free puck stove. 😁👍
A ground off the tab on the sisters ring/ flame extinguisher to make a slightly larger opening. Then I straightened a kilt pin, folded it in half and squashed and bent just one end to make a hook to rotate the cover. I can open it up again to use the pin to clean blocked trangia jets.
I bought the 400ml version of that bottle. It holds my milk for coffee and cacao when I go on bike rides or bushcraft outings. The neoprene smelled rather bad at first, but an overnight soak in warm water and thorough drying got rid of that.
I recently moved into my final home to retire. I had meant boxes which hasn't been opened in 3 decades. In one i found my Opinel #9 which i bought when i was 10. Wow. Memories. I took it everywhere when i was a kid. I cleaned and cooked fish with it. Today it just opens letters.
Just as an idea Onetigris sells this on Amazon - OneTigris Mesh Teepee Tent, Ultralight 1 Person Screen Room with Waterproof Bathtub Floor. Looking quickly at the spec it may work but don’t try it unless you are sure. It may be worth emailing them to confirm what fits. Good luck with your search 👍
Don't forget the stone can absorb water so that can reduce the effective fuel capacity. Try baking it to remove any water content first, then soak it in fuel.
Thanks for the video. I have been checking this pack out for a bit. I am glad I read the comments and will pass. I don't want to deal with the squeaking.
I occasionally burn lump charcoal in my Nano. I'm not sure of the temperature, but aluminum does melt way before stainless steel. So, a stainless steel washer glued in instead? Question: Will it fold with that. I have had some huge long hot fires in a Nano, I'm guessing the price you pay is for some good quality stainless. Never had a part warp. An off brand stove is a good idea, cheaper, frankly, some perform better than what is sold for it, to clip in. The stove at the bottom should lower the center of gravity, the lower the gas line coming out a good thing, too?
The reason is because in some places is ilegal to travel with alcohol stoves. And this 'pill' pass as a whisky stone ice cube. So you can trabel with it and make alcohol gel (for hand sanitizer) and that's not s problem. Unlike a traditional stove.
So I need a vice, workbench, a single drywall screw, power drill, drill bits and a chunk of wood.... Since one can be an apartment dweller living in an urban center probably better to get a pair of snap ring pliers from Amazon for $8
Never sand the timber... If it swells up due to moisture, dry it out and the timber will shrink. When dry, get a q tip and dip it in Danish oil or Boiled Linseed Oil cut 50/50 with Pure Gum Terpene. Apply to the end grain at the collar end repeatedly until it wont absorb any more. (You can also apply to the inside of the blade slot if so inclined but I have not found that necessary).
