Have you thought about sewing yourself better fitting clothing or even just sewing that expensive dress yourself? Let me share with you sewing tips, tricks and hacks that will help you to make your wardrobe dreams possible.
Why didn’t you just get a JUKI TL-2000Qi ($799) or a Brother PQ1600S ($999)? A semi-industrial straight stitch machine is made for heavy-weight materials and is perfect for purses and bag projects. If you wanted a non-straight stitch machine, you could have gotten the Janome Memory Craft 6650, which also handles anything you throw at it. The high-priced Bernina machines have gone downhill in terms of longevity due to a lack of quality control and poor craftsmanship. Plus, the inside shell of the Bernina 535 isn’t all hard metal to handle tough jobs in the long term. The sewing machine motor, type of gears, and metal frame front and back will determine how the machine will perform with different types of materials and the number of layers. That said, you may be lucky to get three years of use with any of the Bernina sewing machines before things start to fail. But I wish you all the best and hope it lasts for many years to come😎
I love the idea of reversible dresses and I think the little girls ( and their Mums ) that they are going to receive them will love the 2 in 1 style as well. As for 2 sheer fabrics to make them I guess as long as they are cotton and will hold up to many many washes, some potentially in rivers/being rubbed on rocks etc it's a great way of using the fabrics you love but are borderline too sheer to be ok on their own.
I'm only seeing the bottom of the dresses. I do not see the tops at all. Which is what I need to see. Please consider standing and hold it up higher than your neck.Thank you.
I am almost done with this dress. I just need to sew on the second button placket and wishing I had shortened the bodice as well. I am only 5’1. The waist does sit above my belly button, but would be nice it the bodice was shorter. Not sure if I should undo the placket and shorten it eeeek.
I have now owned three machines that I hate. Two were Viking and one Jacome. At least the Jacome did a nice job BUT it constantly goes out of adjustment costing me $100.00 each time. I have stopped sewing. I was on a Zoom with my quilting friends and each person did a show and tell of their sewing rooms. OMG I noticed that they did most of them were on older machines! I remembered my mom's Singer that I used for years (until my sister stole it) I oiled it, etc. but it was never serviced! I also became annoyed with the sound of modern machines having learned to sew with the nice "sing" sound of a Singer. A repair shop has told me that they will teach me how to adjust the Jacome and now I lust after a Singer 401a and of course, a 200, they Rolls Royce of any machine. I do not know what kind of Singer my mom had, but her nice furniture for it implies a 200.
Sounds like you’re well on your way to regular sewing again. So happy that you’re figuring out what makes you tic 😁 it really does make a big difference
for the older girls, if I have a bit of extra fabric, I make some cloth drawstring bags which I think the older, bigger girls, especially, might find useful.
I look out for inexpensive/sale t shirts in various colors and then if I have some left over fabric--enough to make a skirt...I know I can make an outfit, especially for the older girls.
Great hack. I was trying to figure out how to add a funnel neckline to a dress I want to make. I saw something similar in RTW but at almost $300…..way out of my price range. I love your makes.
Just rewatching this video for some dress a girl inspiration. I have some dresses cut out just trying to find time to sew them. It's the busy time at work. Can't wait until September. I'm hoping to get Practical Stitches numbers up.
Yay. Welcome on board. You can get labels here, inspiredleatherco.com/products/project-dress-a-girl-labels This year we will be using the same guidelines as last year for the dress requirements. You’ll have to wait until September 1 for the updated ambassador list. It changes every year.
Just a reminder for Dress A Girl Around The World dresses, no buttons. Although the buttons are decorative only on these dresses, I've been told not to do that. But, I'm going by the UK rules :)
You can buy a snap on foot adapter for your Bernina. I bought mine from Amazon. One can be bought from other retailers. Also, doesn't your machine have a sensor for low bobbin thread?
I love the colors you used for the Life Sew Savory Tank Dress! I really like to use the Tiered Peasant dress from Scattered Thoughts of a crafty mom! It is very fun to make! I can used scraps and have a lot of variations.
That happens to me with my kitchen drawers. I’m always getting caught on them. - I really like this pattern but I think it would make me look pregnant!
