3 out of 4 of those knobs fell off of my KW dampers. $60 each to replace plus shipping. I ended up using a 3mm hex socket with marks added instead of replacing them just so they can fall out again.
I haven't done this job yet, but my methodology would be very close to the technique you used 👍. The only difference would be removing the fender liner to get some clearance, unbolt the longitudinal strut from the car body and remove the axle nut from the splined shaft to pull the assembly off. I view this the same as working on a front wheel drive car and you will need a torque multiplier for the new nut. When this all goes back together the alignment setting weren't disturbed, but alignment should be checked and adjusted if necessary. Great technique by the way; thinking outside the box 👏💪.
that sprung piece at the top of the lock that you have left out, i am having huge problem getting the lock back together when using that piece. did you try to put it together with that piece or did you give up?
Ended up not using it since the spring and the piece and the spring didnt want to play nice together, dont live in too sandy/dusty conditions so I figure it would be ok for me
Thanks for posting this. I'm putting bigger fuel injectors on my SAAB Aero CV and I didn't know how to remove the fuel line from the rail. Now it won't be a problem.
I kinda messed up moving the parts, hired a young key guy with better eyes was able to transfer the components. I had to smash the old FOB to get the transponder out. In so doing, I kinda bent the gold metal prongs. Luckily, the young man was able to re bend it back so it can make contact with the motherboard. I did order on Amazon a new Porsche mini badge. Threw old the old one as I wasn’t thinking. All in all, I’m completely satisfied.
Good work fella. Not a huge difference, it's not worth it, why pay all that money for fancy bolts....Those and other complaints people say on these all the time. However, there's many companies who do different designs of bolts, bolts that have some sort of weight reduction + the fact that they're titanium the actual weight savings could be much more significant if chosen wisely. Also, buying titanium wheel bolts is meant to reduce unsprung weight, combined with proper lightweight rims and tyres will do amazing things to handling.
How do you find the KWs on the car? Was looking at a set of OHLINS but they are now charging you extra for the springs and they no longer supply them in the kit, bit of a rip off. Would appreciate your feedback
I didn't go for the Ohlins for the price and that its separate compression/rebound on the KW and Ohlins is combined. I have only used the KW on the track for one season and I would not say that I'm a skilled driver but what I can say is that the KW are 10x better then the Sachs coilover I previously had - the Sachs were sh*t. The KW's are comfortable on the road and I just dial them in for track use and dial them out when driving home. I haven't tried fiddling too much with the settings and haven't driven a car with Ohlins so I wouldn't know if the Ohlins are way better but the KW's are plenty good enough for me being a amateur track day attendant.
I just did this procedure yesterday. There is NO NEED TO CUT the 'plate edge' or metal plate for the inner joint as you see in this video. The word 'plate' used in the SAAB WIS is misleading and confusing. A plate is usually something flat which is what causes the confusion. It's actually a circular metal RING that's used to keep the tripod from departing (falling out of) the inner joint housing and it limits the travel of the tripod in the housing. The ring is on the open edge of the joint housing (not the spline end). The metal ring is strong enough to keep the tripod from completely coming out but soft enough that it can be taken off and re-used. The technique I used was to use a flat blade screwdriver to bend the edge of the ring upwards so the ring could be removed and re-used. It needs patience to work (bend) the edge up all around the ring then it just pulls or slides off. No cutting necessary. When I re-assembled, I slid the ring back in place and using a small hammer tapped down the edge all around the ring as best I could so there are no sharp edges that might cut into the new gaiter (boot). It's curious that this video doesn't show what happens after he's cut the ring and how he puts it back ! The SAAB WIS says that the 'plate' does not need to be refitted, only for production purposes, but if you don't fit it back you will have a helluva time keeping the tripod in the joint housing as you're trying to fit the whole drive shaft back into place. The SAAB WIS instructions for this procedure leave the reader a little confused because it's worded to imply that you have the OPTION of refitting the ring. Unless by design the tripod travel in the housing is limited by the drive shaft assembly, it just didn't make sense not to refit the circular ring. And watching him cut the ring left me feeling uneasy when everything I read (WIS, Haynes) said 'bend'.
Thanks for the video! I just bought the exact same car in white ^^ Can you tell me if the KW Clubsport allows you to tune your camber in the front? Do the coilovers come with ajustable top mounts?
Hi, this work was done years ago so I don't remember all the details of what I did but much is documented online and there are forums available you can turn to for support. Good luck with your project
Om du menar verktyget som jag använde för att knacka ut lagren så är det en plastskrapa för att trycka ut luft när man applicerar solfilm på bilrutorna om jag minns rätt. Det är bara en mjuk platsbit i rätt form
Subbed, I'm a BMW motorcycle tech but I've never done any work on my own Cayman S, Lately after lockdown I Started the car and was met with a loud tick/knock not sure if it's a lifter or what, I really enjoy your videos on your Cayman, Keep up the good work.
thanks for the comment, good luck with your car. BTW - I have quite a loud ticking in my car also but in never changes (from one occasion to another) so I figure its nothing alarming. All the best to you
@@tobetinkering mine did also this is clearly a much harder Knock, going to get the cylinders for scoring and do an oil change it could be a no pressure lifter:(
So in my case that I can only use rear wheel ramps and Two jacks to level the front of the car, should I have problem reinstalling the alu pan and brackets?? I cannot have the rear wheels hanging. Thank you and waiting your reply. Chris(Cayman base 2008 pasm, six speed manual)
I would recomend you do a wheel alignemnt after and also you need to check its safe to go under the car removing the bolts holding the suspension together. Would not recommend it. Rather put the rear on axel stands instead so you dont have load on the wheels
Good video. Looks like the same key I purchased. New one came with a small brass Porsche crest that is peel and stick and the product is excellent quality. Key blade was tight to get out. Copper connectors are delicate, take your time. Transponder didnt wanna come un glued, gotta work at it.
the disconnecter for the lights are in the right wheelhouse and there is a disconnector for the washer behind the left light, just take your time and look for the connectors and you will find them
@@tobetinkering Thanks! It was fairly easy to remove the bumper. With the right sequence and know-hows, it would take me about 30 minutes to remove the bumper the next time.
Hi! Just bought a set of 4 BREMBO discs and BREMBO pads. For spirited street driving, do you think I will notice some difference? My car is a 2005 987S (BOXSTER). Thanks you in advance!
For street driving you will probably not notice any difference. For street-legal driving you are so far from the edge of performance it will not make any difference. Take it to a track, it can handle it - it's built for that. Good luck
@@figueiredoeduardo7252 it all comes down to what brembo stuff you buy. Discs are usually similar but pads differ depending on what you buy. Consult your seller for details. My pads need some heat in them to be working properly, downside is that they screeche a lot when cold so not so good for normal use so it all comes down to what you give priority to. If you start to track the car you need new brake fluids since old ones contain water and will boil = go spungy
Hello i wanna ask i gave porsche carrera gts 2016 the car overheating other garage change water pump and thermostat customer bring car to me i changed valve bleeding in tank still car overheating the left side from hoses is gold right side is hot
I bought a key fob on Ebay that looks like it comes directly from Germany. Very good quality. The problem. The damn thing came loaded with electronics including the transponder. How in the hell did they expect me to remove the transponder without damaging the new key fob?
