Having first travelled around Australia in 2018 for 12 months we are now embarking on our second lap around Australia. Beginning at the end of 2022 we'll be documenting our preparation and journey for the big trip around the country we are lucky to call home!

Hey man, how's your trip going? We are back in Vic now. We were about 5 weeks behind you at this point I think. Anyway, totally forgot the eclipse was happening and just noticed some weird stuff with shadows and the temp dropped. Was amazing. We were way down the coast so didnt get the full eclipse but it was definitely very noticable. Anyway, great to see your footage. I lost track of what you guys were up to while we were travelling, you know how it is, who has time to watch youtube right?

@@thelapyear yeah we are recording our trip as well and also about 2 weeks behind there too. Hard to find the time etc. Travelling is relentless eh? I missed the bit where you show exactly how the Redarc controller is wired in? Where does the blue wire from the Redarc go to the Mitsi wiring harness? Where does the Redarc get its brake input? Is there a diode included in the Mitsi harness?
@thelapyear
@thelapyear Год назад
To be honest it's a bit of a mystery to me how this works. I believe it takes the brake input from the single plug which was in the top left corner under the dash. The redarc simply plugs with 4 wires into a 4 pin plug. That part is pretty basic. The confusing bit it's the swapping over relays under the tub. Possible that they do this instead of the diode? Otherwise it must be included in the loom
@brantwinter
@brantwinter Год назад
@@thelapyear ok cool. But my redarc came with a plug that goes to the redarc unit with bare wire ends. Are you saying that the Mitsi harness kit comes with a plug that suits the redarc unit?

Hey Andrew, yeah Sorry bout the commentary on the beach the bloody wind was killing my audio and then i left the music too loud. The triton is awesome on the sand, no issues at all and my one is pretty heavy. I am really impressed in sand mode in both 4HLC and 4L. The triton is almost stock suspension wise, i just put a set of HD supersprings in the rear as the van has a ball weight of about 275kg and it was sagging a bit without it. Despite the naysayers on the triton and towing i've been impressed so far. If you have any other questions feel free to let me know. Cheers Richard

Hey mate how does the triton go towing the van? Also what is the atm of the van? We are looking at a triton:)
@thelapyear
@thelapyear Год назад
It does pretty good. ATM is 2700 but we had it loaded up around 2400kg. The triton is a little thirsty (17-18l/100) with the bigger tyres. The only other issue i reckon is the shorter wheelbase so you feel the caravan bouncing a bit more. Otherwise it does really well. I've had pajeros before and the super select is awesome - being able to use 4wd on tarmac is great. Also the low range is really low and the triton is pretty capable offroad. For me it seems like the perfect compromise on everything and I'm pretty happy with it.
@markt9156
@markt9156 Год назад
@@thelapyear that’s pretty good 17L loaded up with bigger tyres! We are trying to decide between the triton and Pajero sport lol the only benefit with the Pajero sport is not having the long overhang pass the rear axle
@thelapyear
@thelapyear Год назад
yeah i think the pajero sport would be good - the coil sprung would ride better and you are right the overhang would be less. If you have enough space in the pajero sport i'd say it would be a better option - the payload might be a bit smaller? I reckon you will have to do some upgrades on the rear suspension too. Even the Triton was a bit soft so i've added another leaf.

A good idea is to check wheel nuts about 50k up the road if you have had a wheel off. Just nip them up if needed to bed them in. (might be ok but there maybe one that takes a quarter of a turn). Just a peace of mind thing. 👍 Handy vid, thanks .
@thelapyear

Thanks for the video. I wonder whether you have the new nuts upside down? To me it looks like the "stud" or "flange" on the supplied nuts from GMF4X4 are made to fit inside the bracket hole, as the bonnet bolts are very short. I have today sent a note to GMF4X4 for their feedback, but would appreciate your thoughts please. Cheers, David

@thelapyear
@thelapyear Год назад
Hi Rob - yeah i understand I just didnt have the instructions handy. Just checked and they mention 121mm - which in Australia means a fairly expensive sutton hole saw. I used a 127mm one and after checking it against the template and the snorkel i worked out there was plenty of space for it to be covered up. I basically did this because I already owned the hole saw. I'd recommend centering the hole saw you are going to use over the hole in the snorkel just to make sure you have enough coverage from the snorkel body. To be honest you could go quite a bit bigger and i think they keep quite a bit of contingency for if you stuff up putting on the template. Good luck mate, that big hole is the scariest part of the whole install.
