Great videos > use to like to watch the king of the hill race . great times, guess back then people didn't have that many video cameras , but i seem to remember someone on Don Mallat's crew had a camera, but haven't seen any of those videos . > Stan Earish was quite the guy , Stan and Joe Holman were a great combo . Remember riding my bike by Holman's house on Askin and watching from the end of his driveway with my buddy Rick >it was a cool time .
had to turn off that music to finish watching , now that i have i dont have to anymore ..... darn music ruined it .... some beach boys 409 would be better than hallalula or however its spelt . thanks for the cool vid
Very interesting!! Thanks for this. At 1:47 I see that the Princess Hotel was still standing. I use to perform music there back in the 1970s for a few years. I believe it burned down a number of years ago. This brought back some nice memories for me. Cheers
@@randyarmstrong1198 The first time I came up to the area was in February of 1974 and was playing at the Lakeshore Hotel in Larder Lake and Howie and his hockey team stopped in for a drink on their way back to KL. He like me enough I guess to hire me for the following week. I played in the downstairs lounge. I think they use to call it the snake pit, lol! Very nice family. Wonderful experience for a young guy striking out on his own. Thanks for the note.
@@LanceIs55 That would automatically mean that I saw you play there since the Princess, the Teck and the Queens with the occasional Franklin were our go to places.
@@randyarmstrong1198 I’m sure we must have met in that downstairs lounge when I was playing. I wasn’t a very fancy act at the time. A couple of acoustic guitars and two mikes learning as I went along. I chummed around with a few of the local DJs. Gordie Biggs, Bob Carr and Allan (Lee) Marshall. I had a great time up there back then. My wife and I attended Howie’s celebration of life two years ago up there. Lot’s of memories shared and musicians performing including us. Nancy had some favourites she wanted me to sing in his honour. I was touched.
Goodness gracious! What memories! Those were the days! Thank you very much for posting this. Seems so far away back in time! Louis Heon resident of KL 1966-1985
The tow truck pulling car # 8 @ 2.26 in the video looks like the old Dingwall Ford tow truck.Where the mound of dirt is around the light pole is just like the one a Checker Flag in Windsor. That light pole was still there in the 80,s.
Who are your parents, this is Checker Flag Raceway that used to be here in Windsor, Ontario. Maybe 1963-64, it was 1/4 mile dirt oval. This is just AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have any others???? THANKS!!!!!!!!!
Good job! Windsor makes sense. My father raced stock cars in Northern Ontario and visited relatives in Windsor. That's where he must have pulled out his super 8 camera.
Bring back sweet memories of Kirkland Lake.I am from Malaysia and I studied at Northern College from 1976-1979.We were the Northern Ontario Colleges Badminton Champ.Best wishes to all the nice people there..
My local track (Hibbing MN) used to have a ramp where the cars would try and get up balanced on two wheels and see how far they could go. A guy named Pat Friend could take my friend Foont's 64 Fairlane station wagon and drive all the way around the track! The trick was to go drivers side down. (and Pat weighed about 350, which helped?)
I am just guessing, but there were dozens of race tracks in the eastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas area. I was hoping to be able to read something on a wrecker or car. quarter mile tracks with the pits outside of turn 2 limits it and being near houses narrows it down some more. I wish more people would view this. The only tracks I can think of that could possibly work were a track near Ft. Smith Ar. and another in Little Rock. How crazy was it rolling cars with open face helmets and no neck supports?
this is probably out of topic but....business people here are stupid, it would be a good idea to construct a building to rent apartments for students who are planning to attend the Nothern college.. this town does have "apartment" postings on the internet but most seem unreliable, I think they should build a city like apartment ( that could be a great way to make lots of money with the students. and it will benefit the structural growth of the town as well.)
omg. just stumbled on this site. Thank you for posting the old parade videos. I grew up in KL and marched in those parades as a marjorette along with my sister and friends. What a trip back in time and a teary one at that.

Pavilion 1: This structure was not a pavilion, it was a ride on La Ronde. The island of La Ronde was like a big amusement park. The ride was called the Gyrotron. Pavilion 2: The U.S. pavilion. Buckminster Fuller's geodesic dome. The structure still stands today but sometime ago suffered fire damage. Pavilion 3: Pavilion of France. This building also still stands and currently houses a casino. Pavilion 4: Indians of Canada pavilion. Pavilion 5: Canadian pavilion.
Ya, most of the stores you see "appear" open but they aren't. In fact, even tho the mining industry is booming, the miners are spending their money elsewhere. Too bad too.
