Great tie, Pete. Tied some just the way you directed and then did a couple substituting India Brahma hen for the CDL. Came out looking pretty buggy also.
I fish a variation of this fly called "the ticket" in the streams and rivers in colorado and it is probably my #1 go to dropper because it always gets me a fish.
Hi...I'm curious how well these materials hold up to fishing; or, more precisely, to catching fish. Those materials are so delicate--how well do they hold up?
The way they hold up depends on the way they're applied and also the target species. The toothier the fish the shorter the fly duration. When you're fishing for a bunch of salmon there is a good chance the hook will bend out before the fly gets too tattered to fish. Hope that helps!
Last year i bought a new spey setup....everything, rod, reel, line....i had a free hour to get it in the water and hooked into a chum....youve never known the fear of having around $150 of 12 minute old line down stream, 90ft into the backing on a pissed off chum who is still runnning..
Floating lines for the majority of the time. We do carry a rod with either a sink tip attached or an intermediate line for those deeper pools and runs!
Was just out in SW Colorado backcountry chasing cutthroat. Super spooky fish but spectacular scenery and nice change up from fishing in Washington. Have fun!
Claret is underrated in tying flies . In the u.k. the mallard and claret is a good wet fly. I respect and am sorry for our one of our spawn family has died but not forgotten
I used to blend a leech dubbing with superfly IMI seal dub in claret and hoarders bloody black with some ice dub was a killer leech color. Superfly is no longer around. Your new Nightmare semi seal dub is so close a match I know this one will be a winner !
