Dont take this personal, I am not trying to be rude. But the was long winded. The guys are bored. Show the technique and get them drilling. Way too much talking and showing a hundred techniques

I've recently came across this guy's tutorials and as a catch wrestler since the early 80s, I can say. He is very knowledgeable and knows his shit. I've yet to see anything that he is not 100% correct. Technique is spot on and detail is impeccable.

My father had a Catch-As-Catch-Can gym back in the 1950s and as boy in the 60s he said I was not old enough to learn "real" wrestling yet, so he sent me to the local judo club which he thought was more suitable for boys, and which I did not like because all the rolls and break falls gave me a headache. When I was older in the 70s and 80s I practiced kung fu and karate because that was the fashion back then. 1990s and my father finally showed me his wrestling moves, holds and locks, and MY GOODNESS I could not believe how effective they were. The headlocks were crucifying, like nothing I had learned in judo or jujitsu. About two dozen neck cranks, sleepers, and face crushes. No wonder he seemed unimpressed by my Asian martial art fighting ability. The approach to arm locks was different too. Whereas in judo and jujitsu we usually taught to consolidate position and then seek the lock, in wrestling my father taught me wherever possible to secure the grip then apply the lock while at same time moving into the position so as to secure position and lock together, whether applying locks from standing or on the ground. It made for a swifter application and more fluid wrestle. During the 1990s my father and I were the only people I knew who knew these wrestling techniques, particularly the headlocks, and I thought they were dying out. So I am very pleased to see young men learning them today, and Catch Wrestling as it is now known being revived.

"The highest standard ok? We have one standard. We're not training to beat the white belt or the new student. We're going after the world champion right out of the gates right? That way when you get to him, you've been training for him the whole time."

There is absolutely no reason to learn these kind of holds if you are not particularly competing in catch. Submission grappling/ BJJ now a days is far more practical and more efficient in any kind of grappling event.
@JerZkyd

kind of an asinine comment considering many of the top moves used in no gi bjj were taken from catch

So what if guy on bottom in the first scenario at 3:44 decides to use that right arm and hook that inside leg and swings the outside leg to the front in order to start moving into the guard, which causes guy on top to sacrifice grip to balance with using one of his arms as a base while the bottom man turns into him?

I’m not sure what you mean exactly. But probably give up on the bulldog and start from square 1.
@shouldershift
@shouldershift 4 года назад
your hips would go but your head would remain in the grip. or he releases the grip and sits on your arm meaning you cant go anywhere he doesnt want you to go and he ends up in side control at worst with control of your arm.

Train w/ wrestlers and BJJ players, but use catch on them. If you have open mat or just some free time, you can ask to drill with them if you don't think you're doing something right.
