HI - the foam I used as a plug has melted into the vinegar - obvs some new form of packing - not Styrofoam/polystyrene here...have I killed the culture? I have removed it and hoped not as I have been to too many funerals lately !?
Hell there. Thanks for making this helpful video for us. May I ask, where does one buy that mesh sheet and what are these called? 🙏🏻🤝🏻 Thank you so much
This guy was very successful in Culturing them in coconut fiber. Can you tell why? " A Quick Guide to Culturing White Worms (Enchytraeus albidus)" by user Patriot Coin Rings
Bought new vinegar eel culture yesterday. Today there is a about 1/4 inch of whitish like sediment at the bottom of the cider vinegar, water & apple slices solution I dumped them into. Under magnification & a flashlight I can't detect any movement whatsoever. Are they all laying at the bottom dead?
Hey, I just found this. Thank you. I am just getting into cultivating live food, because it makes my fish so much prettier and I suspect healthier and happier. This was the perfect timing, as I have new grindal worm cultures going on coco fiber and I wonder what I'm getting into.
search amazon, the brand is something like "Inkbird." I have used this exact one for years, both for cooling applications like this, and for heating applications like making tempeh and yogurt. Can confirm they are reliable , accurate and easy to use, if you understand basic wiring. If you're controlling a line voltage appliance like the micro fridge in the video, you need to know what you're doing a little bit or you could burn your house down or hurt or kill yourself, so be wise. Get help if you're not confident! Having said that, my setup is coincidentally almost identical to the one in the video, I actually laughed. The fridge draws well under the 10 amps that this thing is rated for(1.8 I think.)
HELP! I used to culture these successfully all year long, then 1 summer they stopped reproducing because it got hot, and then the culture started to get filled with clouds of mold for every tiny little piece of food I'd add in... so I started a new culture with new substrate and added some worms over... for a week they did great and were growing fast... then the mold started again and now I'm back to having problems... if I add ANY amount of food, within a few hours the entire bin gets completely covered in mold... and it looks like cotton candy... we're talking a 3" poof of mold sitting on top of the entire culture...
Hello friend "Greeting from Malaysia" . I have try this but its take too much time...Now i found the very fast way to harvest vinegar eels like microworms...i can use vinegar eels any time..just swipe and feeding my betta fry... i got that idea after wacthing this video...thank for this video bro.
I have tried it. It doesn’t seem to work as well with white worms. If you decide to give it a try please let me know how yours goes. That’s they best scientific way to find out. Multiple studies. I have also tried coconut fiber and it did ok.
Muhammad Kevin not sure about coconut vinegar I’ve never used it. I’d start with apple cider vinegar and get a good culture going then try to start one with coconut vinegar and see what happens. If it works let me know.
Sir thanks for the video. I have genuinely some queries please reply. Do you see any problems with fungus gnats while you keep the culture going on? If yes Do they get into fridge? Do the Tupperware boxes have holes at the top? Thanks
Hello there are vent holes in the lid of the container. And if the culture gets old you can see mites or gnats. Just like with other cultures you need to make new cultures as they age. The soil will go bad over time. Just take a chunk of the old culture and put it in a new soil culture and start fresh or gather some worms and rinse them in clean fresh water then add them to the new culture.
Hi there! I have been culturing these little guys for a few months and recently split my first pair of cultures into several more. However, 2 of my new cultures have produced a white film on the top, which I fear is keeping the eels from getting air. I have skimmed it off but it keeps growing back. What is this and how do I get rid of it without just dumping the cultures and starting over?
Etienne Crowe did the white film happen right away or did it take a few days? Sometimes a film on top can be from a huge amount of vinegar eels. They do go to the surface. I’ve actually had some that had such a high population that they climbed the sides of the glass about half an inch.
I thought your video was great. It was clear, and I am off to transfer one of my g worm cultures from soil to scrubber right now! I watched another one of your videos, and you rock! Thanks for the good info. I subscribed of course :)
Use mash potato instead of kibbles. Use 4 to 5 pads instead of just 1 layer. Kind of making a filtering system. Wash out the bottom one with some tank water about every 2 months. Also worms going up the sides of the container typically means the conditions aren't so desirable.
not my video but, the mesh is used as a place for the worms to crawl on... it makes harvesting easier, just swish the mesh through some clean water and all the worms fall off. You can then use a pipet to suck up the worms and feed to your fish.
Parrot Bill WHITE worm needs to be keep cool at about 58 F. These are Grindal worm, which do fine, at room temperature. In fact, they should do very well in Florida weather, just keep the substrate moist. Your main concern in Florida should be cereal mites, and flies.
Hi sir , my name is murali from chennai. I was breeding ornamental fishes for more than 10 years , I have watched your video about grindal worms culture ,it was fantastic , I have a dought sir , for feeding the grindal worms which food is best either dog food or cat food ,please reply me your suggestion ,. Thanking you, Murali. Chennai, india.
Some people have nightmares with fly’s, others mites, I always have to fight mites, doesn’t matter what I do I get them, pain in the bum, I’ve just had to accept the fact, I spent quite a bit a while back on different cultures from people some were horrific, odd one was good,. What I have to do is every time I see a bunch of mites together on the culture I just squash them. I often find small areas clear of worms and a bunch of mites there. Hate the things. I wish there was a product I could use that would kill the mites but not the worms. Drowning the culture just clears the initial ones. But there back within days, I’ve kept them in a really clean area, microwaved soil to kill anything. Everything possible. I’ve tried pads but progress was really slow compared to soil. I find cat food works the best in breeding them, but of course mites love that stuff, I don’t even leave the food in long. Crazy.
@@milkmanisin oh that's great to know. I've heard from other you tuber that when u feed the eels to the fish they will not die right away and give the fish a few hours to feed. So my initial impression was a few hours. Thank you for your respond.
Great video, thanks for the tips & info. I had a quick question; I got a “room temperature white worm starter” from my local club auction, should I continue to keep at room temp or should I try and cool them down more? And does cooler temp lead to faster growth of the colony?
Philthy Tanks depends on what “room temp” is. They tend to do best around 60°F but can definitely survive up into the 70° area. You might see a reduction in population at higher temperatures. Hope that helps.
