Someone once said 'good music should surprise you'. Well, look no further for there are innumerable surprises herein. One shouldn't be surprised at that, it is Mr. Hopkins afterall!
I remember when I discovered this somewhere around the release of Insides, where I have been essentially catching up with Opalescent and Contact Note from years back. Can't really count how many nights have this been carrying me through on repeat. The man has perfected background tonal harmony like no one else, in the sense of its depth and how cleanly it conveys, well, music. And you can still hear that spacious serenity in his present work, even if he moved with exploration to a new place. Only person that for me came close to him, in that manner, is Owsey.
