It's never too late to learn to play the harp! And you don't need a musical background. I learned the harp as an adult, and you can do it too!
Learning to play the harp can be overwhelming, especially when you don't have a teacher nearby or can't afford lessons. It's hard to know where to start, and how to progress. Without help we can pick up bad habits that are difficult to fix, and when our progress slows down it can be really frustrating. But it doesn't have to be that way!
Here at "Learning the Harp" we are passionate about inspiring new harp players and helping you learn, because we believe it's never too late to learn to play the harp!
We release new harp videos every Thursday, so subscribe for more harp inspiration and encouragement.
"Learning the Harp" includes harp teachers Christy-Lyn Dosé (Cape Town, South Africa), and Carrie Tollett (Maryland, USA).

I teach accounting. It’s so important for teachers to learn new things. It keeps us connected to what students go through learning something new. It’s actually one of the big reasons I decided to learn harp. Maybe pickleball is next!
Thank you for your great insights. I wrote a couple of your quotes down that I really liked. I will share them with my instructor. I’ve always loved listening to the harp and admired harpists. I play piano, but never even considered the harp. Then on a Disney Cruise one of the adult lounges had a professional harpist playing each afternoon. I went every day to watch and listen. Two years later, I just couldn’t let go of the idea of playing the harp. I found an instructor online, but lived close enough to take lessons in person. I rented a harp from her until I knew I’d stick with it. At the beginning of my harp journey I came across LTH and joined at the very beginning. Here I am 5 1/2 years later still loving it and owning 3 lever harps!
I'm so glad you found this encouraging! I bet having live harp music was a perfect touch to add to the atmosphere of a Disney cruise 😍 I love that you're still playing and loving it!
Sometimes we just have to just try and havé some fun until we get to a certain level to take things more seriously that gives us the courage to push through the harder times, otherwise if things are too tough from the start we give up before we really get started. I will never be a great harpist I have two left hands so to speak but I love playing my harp and that’s good enough for me to keep at it. It’s been something I have wanted to learn for over 50 years.
Hi there! I'm Carrie, filling in for Christy-Lyn at the moment 🤗 I struggled with back pain for years while playing so I understand what you mean! I would suggest doing some stretches before you sit down to practice to really make sure you are relaxed and have worked out any existing tension in your back and shoulders. I'd also be sure you are taking plenty of breaks as you practice! Another thing could be the height you are sitting at your harp (if you haven't already, be sure to check out this video in the series about How to Sit at Your Harp! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qARN9vzwtSc.html) I hope this helps :)
I learned all these from Ms. Marion Fouse, forty years ago. I need a reminder sometimes. Thanks for the free refresher course. (I also need to practice more!)
Jesus you will get a brand new one in heaven onless there's a recession or something I will probably end up with a serpent that's an early reainessance instrument the auld devil might only give you a used second hand one or a kick in the arce.
Shure if you wait long enough you will get one for free in the above along with wings they will come as a package thanks for your information and be an angel.
Thank you for sharing these instructional harp videos! It really is helping me learn. My father in law handcrafted a harp as a gift for my birthday! Here is a video of one of the first songs I have learned: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZeSpO62hhn8.htmlsi=cnkQ2_i1QReOhylq
