A beautiful new lap harp with extra bass strings!! Join me as I open it up and try it out for the first time. This harp has 4 extra bass strings compared to most lap harps, and a nice large sound box which gives the sound depth and fullness... it sounds similar to a floor harp! Let me know if you have any questions, because I'm planning a comparison video between this harp and some other lap harps. Thank-you for the amazing gift, Marini Made Harps!

Loved watching this - took me back to when I got my Bass Lap harp almost 5 years ago. Like you folks, I couldn’t stop stroking the wood, it was so beautifully made. I love the bass so much, I’ve started tuning the low F down to E. It handles that extra half step just fine, the lever gives me back an F, and I find I use a low E far more than I use a low F#.

I got to play some Marini harps for the first time at Sommerset last year. They're lovely! I also resonated a lot with what you said, Christy-Lyn, about it being nice to have a small harp to play at home - I have lots of lovely floor harps in my studio, but it's really nice to have something a bit more portable just to play for fun in the evenings, or on the front porch or whatnot.

Thank you, Christy-Lyn. I am still working through the content on your Beginner Harp program, though I have been a beginner now for a few years ;-) I am looking to upgrade from my Sharpsicle and am considering this particular harp. Thank you for playing it for us. I love the deep tones!

Wonderful! I love my Marini. Mine has 26 strings. I wish I had just a few more, but I love it just the same. It does have a very full sound and stays in tune quite well. You are going to love it! Congratulations!

My first harp was a 28 string Christina by Triplett Harps here in California. I love the design of the Marini stand and soundbox. It won't be long and you'll actually have a lap for it to sit on! Be well!

Thank you for the unboxing video! I wonder if you ever play double string harps. I only have a Harpsicle 26 strings for now but very curious about other lap harps as well. I really wanted to buy this Marini made bass harp once and also other double strung harp from Marinimade but I live abroad so just ended up drooling😅. It seemed a lot of work for me + extra cost(not sure how much it would be but) to get an harp shipped from another country.

Hello, Carrie here! It really is an amazing harp. I can totally understand being hesitant about the oversees costs, but I think it's worth reaching out to Marini just to see what the cost would be if you're really interested! I personally have not played double strung harps but I would love to 🤩

Oh wow!!! That's a harp I'd love to try. It's beautiful! Same number of strings as my new lap harp (a "Gimli" from German harp maker Klaus Regelsberger), but a third lower still. I looked into the Marini Bass lap harp before I bought mine, but I didn't dare to order one from overseas sight unseen. Congratulations!!

Ja I understand your hesitation! Also nice to support harp makers close to you. This harp is such fun to play, I wish you could try it! It takes a bit of adjustment for me to make use of the bass strings because I’m used to harps ending on C, but I particularly love the sound and tone of it! Very warm and gentle but bigger sound than a lap harp usually has.

@@LearningtheHarp I've actually adapted a couple of arrangements to make use of my harp's full range (down to A), and I'm surprised by how much extra freedom those 2 extra strings give me! I'm sure quite a few of your "big harp" arrangements would fit on the Marini with hardly any changes. And I know that you used to play a lot of Anne Crosby Gaudet's pieces, her piece "flying free" is one of my favourites on lap harp. I had to adapt the final chord, but it might actually work on yours! Btw, my arrangement of "The last unicorn" would be perfect for this harp, too! 😉

Thank you! I've got a Marini Bass Minstrel 27 with Marini collapsible wood stand. As a retired person no longer into lifting heavy harps, I love mine for its very full sound in a compact, extremely lightweight harp. Another bonus, mine stays very well in tune even with temperature changes; it behaves. Took it on snowy Christmas eve to church, a 20 min carr ride. At church it didn't require a retune like my other harp would demand after home, car, church transport. Unlike large soundbox on yours, BM27 has a compact straight soundbox. I love using extended bass to accompany my voice. I would love if you'd do a small harp comparison. Always wondered what the bass Marini with curved ergonomic soundbox sounded like so thank you for letting me hear one through your video. I'm watching you from the USA. Enjoy your lovely new harp! ❤

Nice addition! I recently bought a Musicmakers Sonnet. It's 29 strings, and I had it strung A-A rather than C-C and I love the added two bass notes! I have been pleasantly surprised with the tone and how comfortable it is to play. These harp builders are doing incredible things!

Having played in a bell choir for many years, the sound & tone quality of this MMH reminds me of one of the “waste basket bells!” Rich, warm & quite bell-like sound! Very nice!!! I have a Marini Made 10 string harp…and after about a year I was ready to try a 34 string from Dusty Strings. I played your Moon River at the recital last October. I’m playing a harp duet with my instructor at Saturdays recital. What amp will you use with this harp? I have a pickup on my Ravenna 34 and just did purchase a Fender Rumble 40 amp. It is lightweight and the ladies at the memory care facility where I play weekly approved! You have inspired me more than you know!!! Thank you!!! I’m retired and enjoying my new adventure with harp playing!!!🥰🥰

Hello, Carrie here! I'm filling in for Christy-Lyn at the moment 😃I hope the recital went well on Saturday 💚 Personally I'm not familiar with that amp - I use the Fishman loud box mini and I like it a lot! Very portable and is battery operated. Best of luck on your harp journey, we're so glad you're here!🤗

@@LearningtheHarp Thank you Carrie! I would have preferred the amp you have but it was quite a bit pricier. The recital went well! I was nervous and lost focus once during the duet but quickly found her. Today the memory care unit where my Mom is has a botanical garden set up for the residents to walk through after their dinner. They asked me to play from 6-7 this evening for that. Shewee! 🥰 I was honored to be asked. I love sharing music!
