I don't have super strong feelings about Ali Hazelwood. I read two of her STEM romances and thought they were fine. I finished Bride but I feel kind of middle of the road about it as well. I've only read a few Omega verse books but comparatively this one is pretty light due to the fact that they're not both shifters/werewolves. Those elements are really just dropped into a few spicy scenes. My biggest criticism of the book was that there was a little too much packed into the plot. The mystery/marriage/pack dynamics/family trauma/self acceptance. There was an effort to bring all of the story lines together at the end but it just felt a little messy.

I totally agree that Assistant to the Villain feels like the Princess Bride. I need to get my hands on the sequel soon!

I've read one of her books, The Return, and I liked it. It made no sense, wasn't believable, but I enjoyed it somehow. Probably due to the story taking place in a crazy hotel, so what I wanted, really, was the hotel. But I haven't had the urge to read anything else by her. And I still don't! 😆

I've read and liked all Rachel Harrison books, and Such Sharp Teeth is actually my favourite. 😂 Even though I'm not really into vampires, I'm still gonna read So Thirsty. I love her sense of humour and, weirdly speaking, I always relate to her main characters. Haha especially the one from Black Sheep - the MC in that book is pretty much the female version of myself. 😂

I'm waiting for my copy of So Thirsty to come in the mail from Aardvark, but I've loved her other books (I've read all of them except Such Sharp Teeth). I see her as writing "cozy horror" so it has some light horror elements, but it's more about the character's journey. I've also related a lot to her characters and how they explore some of the chaos that is trying to be an adult woman in our society and dealing with relationships (of all types - romantic, friendship, family, religion, etc). The horror elements in her books seem to be more of a metaphor for a theme the character is going through, and idk what it is about her writing but it just hits me on a personal level, though I know from her kinda lower average ratings on Goodreads that she's a divisive author. Cackle has been my favorite book by her; I annotated the crap out of that book, but I totally get if it's not for everyone. I think her books are ones that either really hit you because you relate to the main characters, or if you don't relate I can see how her books would seem kinda pointless. It reminds me of when you talked about Midnight on Beacon Street and how that book hit really personally for you, but it has a low overall rating and for me it mostly felt like a waste of time because I didn't have that personal connection and it didn't feel like much happened plot-wise. Rachel Harrison is to me what that book is to you, if that helps make sense of why some of us love her books :)
@ryreads
@ryreads 3 дня назад
Yess that’s a great take!! I know someone connects to every book and that makes complete sense to me. She’s not a bad author by any means and I think that’s why I’ve always been confused as to why I don’t like her books. You laid that out well!! I love, that you connect so well to her books. That’s such a wonderful feeling.

The book that gave five stores saying “it’s hard to believe a man wrote this” makes me remember when I was in my 20s. I read several books by this author that was a man - yeah so I thought, and then I found out that author was a man and it blew me away. Suddenly, my inner mind reviews jumped from 4 to 5 Store for sure. Don’t ask me why but being able to write from two very different perspectives is something to admire. Are you gonna tell us the names of those books - ha ha ha- oh thanks now you’re telling us the names of the books. I spoke too soon.

This was a very interesting video. Because when you rated and read the first book written by the person who gave it one star and then you read the review from the other person that gave it five stars. Having taught English and history for 19 years, I can tell you that the person who wrote the one star one just by the manner and the word she used in the way she constructed her Paragraph together - - she does not naturally radiate light. What I mean is she or He sees the negative before the positive. Where is you see the positive before the negative and I believe if you read a book that you absolutely love and you kept reading it all the way till 4:15 in the morning and I bet that was a book that took you out of this world, during the time that was passing while you read it. The way people converse and right and Reid as well says so much about who we really are. Well, we’re here to find that out or we wouldn’t have come into this life no matter how old I am I never want to stop growing in my heart, mind and soul. Happy reading.

Wow… I can tell that you are an awakening spirit being, just by listening to your conversation and the way you’re trying to broaden your scope on everything and the fact that you’re interested in all life on this earth not just people because we are all connected and the Earth is alive anyway. We are on the verge of transitioning into a new era, that is nothing like this hodgepodge matrix that we’ve been living in for ages and ages and ages and ages. You are seeking growth and you will have just the fact that you stated that. Enjoy all the books you’re reading all the new people you may meet and all the healthy and new things that you are experiencing right now in spite of what is going on outside, our homes. The world is rapidly changing and you trying to experience it at the deepest level you can I’ll be back. I really like your channel because it’s not just one genre. And yes, most of the good books do come out in fall because they want you to buy them for Christmas presents.

Have you read where the crawdads sing and yes, they made a movie about it but the book is so good it’s romance. It’s got great character development and the story is phenomenal. Do not hesitate to start the expanse series. It's some of the best science fiction ever written. Leviathan Wakes has two main point of view characters and does a much better job of introducing other characters, fleshing out their backstories, and getting its hooks into you right from the get-go. Mercy of God on the other hand is a slow burn, foundational book. It left me more curious and intrigued about what could come later in the story, hoping future installments pick up the pace a little and get me more invested in the characters. The concepts were great I just think the execution could have been better. I give it a 5.5 out of 10 with the potential to be something amazing if you can get through that first installment.... Read leviathan Wakes!
