I know! I have to say if I had known how good this kit is I honestly wouldn't have bothered with any p/e, but thats the sort of thing us modeller like to do!
yeah, this is maybe my third kit with an airwaves set, and they are good in that they cover older, even out of production kits, but usually need quite a bit of fettling!
Built that kit 1.5 years ago. Nice 1/72 scale F-80C. Microscale 72-270 decals to represent the 25FIS/51TFW “Strip-N-Stare” (nice pin-up gal!) operating out of Suwon AB, ROK, 1951. Your build is looking good, that photoetch enhances the cockpit!
Hi. There's nothing wrong with block building, its the easiest way to do it if your working on the same vehicle. I,ve got three GMC triple deuces on the go at the moment. Then its time for individual detailing work. Persevere my friend , you will get there in the end.
absolutely! I've really enjoyed building these kits, its something a little different subject wise and the are all nice kits, at the moment though I really need to get other builds finished first, the B 17 and I'm also working on a couple of tribute builds that will be complete videos rather than a series, then I can turn my attention back to these kits.
That looks real good. I did my de-icing boots by hand. Its quicker and easier. A little tip for you is to watch a signwriter. He uses a stick with a cloth bundle on the end. He then places it near the subject and uses it as a stabiliser for his brush hand. I have nearly finished my version of this aircraft. I might have to revisit the seams, but I will see how bad they are. Good vid and a good build so far.
thats called a mahl stick, I've been in the decorating trade for forty years, the gaffer's dad when I started, at that point semi retired, had been a champion signwriter at national level just after world war two. I've managed to find some tamiya masking tape for curves I forgot I bought! it will easily bend to match the profile of the tail, I will show its use in my next update
Hi Phil. I have both of these kits. They both have their own little issue's. The Airfix kit is a nice little kit , the reason that it is shorter is that its in 1/76 I think. But noe the less its a good kit. The biggest problem with mine is that its the old original kit and it never came with any glazing, so some clear plastic sheet was made to fit instead. The Academy kit also is a bit strange. If you look at the box art you will notice that the truck has rear fenders but the kit hasn,t. Now I did some research and found out that in reality the real thing came with and without so the choice is yours if you wish to scratchbuild some, also on the real vehicle there was an access ladder that was attached to the side of the fuel tank, but again no such thing is in the kit. So out comes the plastic / brass rod if you want to have one. Also there are about six Jerry cans in the kit but nowhere to put them and no rack to hold them. On the actual vehicle they never seemed to be there either, and you wouldn,t have that many on a Swimwagen if any at all. So some discrepencies in both kits, but overall good little kits. P.S. Don,t let people hear you talking to your models, they will put you in the funny farm for that. Good luck.
thanks! I'm no expert on these trucks so any advice is appreciated, the lack of glazing in the airfix kit is most obvious, but i do have all sorts of clear sheet i keep from packaging that could easily make a front window, while the side ones could be done with clearfix. its my plan to use these vehicles as set dressing while taking photos of finished luftwaffe aircraft (in fact i do have a Messerschmitt Bf 110 G like in the academy boxart which is what gave me that idea!) the difference in scales is quite obvious, but perspective should help with that.
yeah every aircraft on display is kept in a really good state of preservation, apart from exhibits that are crashed/recovered, plus there are a lot of airworthy aircraft that fly displays there, the sally B being one such.
sure, i've just posted a video slideshow of some B 17 photos i took yesterday at the duxford air museum, at least three are nice close ups of the tail turret.
@@philsmodelmaking2260 I have old Humbrol enamels, someone from 1995 And still working great 🤓 I store them upside down, no Oxygen to contaminate the paint.
I woz 8 once ! The Albatros kut was good as well , i still haven't got over my addiction, play wargames mostly now as it brings the models to life 🐾🕊️🐦
Such a skilled artist, by any standards. Looking at his Airfix box art instantly takes me back 50 years to when I would study the catalogue longingly as a young lad.
The model shop in Preston on Church St was Harry Welchs...The Modellers Mecca! He had plastic bag kits of all sorts in there in the early 70s... Loved it...nothing or nowhere to buy these in Preston anymore..crying shame
just found a model shop reasonably local to me, malcs models in ilkeston, bought some bits and bobs, a mary rose kit, and had a great chat with the very friendly staff there.
absolutely! in the tea card booklet you can send off for revell kits, their prices? 1/28 fokker triplane - 79 pence! 1/32 Bf 109F - 82 pence! 1/72 dambuster lancaster - 71 pence!
I forgot to tell you, about old b-17 molding. There's fix for warped parts like fuselage halves and warped wings on old castings. I saw it by one older modeler. We should have just stick it in hot water for few seconds,, just enough to make plastic bit more flexible and put it on a straight surface and hold it for few seconds till it cools down. Similar with wing parts etc. Too bad I haven't seen it before I glued it all up 😅
its going to be a matt coat, I usually use artists vanishes, either windsor and newton artists matt which is spirit based or windsor and newton galeria which is acrylic based.
Leave the turret pin out make it easy to have the turret rotate stretched sprue into turret push up through hole and melt sprue over on top leave bomb aimer out much better finish 🙄
