I've seen so many comments on various video clips and uploads of the songs from the soundtrack (which is absolutely fantastic!) of people saying the musical is terrible and doesn't respect the material. Excuse me, what? If this song doesn't capture the essence of Tolkien's world, nothing will. I found out about this musical through a Facebook ad for the upcoming production coming to Chicago in July and was intrigued so I dug around and immediately fell in love with the music, then proceeded to buy a ticket for their opening night, which happens to be the day after my birthday, so perfect timing! I understand that it's not easy to fit thousands of pages of lore into a 2-3 hour musical, but based on the music, I have a strong feeling that I won't care. The music is perfect and that alone has me all giddy and excited for it 😁
@@Ryan-hh4yv I loved it! I'm flying out again over Labor Day weekend to see it one more time before it closes. I hope it makes it to Broadway or even off Broadway at some point
@@DayDay80631 I think if it went to Broadway it would kind of fall into the same trap that the original fell into, but I would love to see it go to off-broadway. Though I think it could work possibly in the Circle in the Square Theatre!
@Ryan-hh4yv yeah good point. After Chicago it's going to New Zealand, so if it just keeps touring around the world, it could stay out of that trap. I'd love to see it play at my local theater! It's a brand new venue
I saw this in the West End with my dad. He died a week ago. We both loved Tolkien so much. I'm trying to come up with something to write on a card to go on his wreath; "now and for always" might be it. I love you, Dad.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: A MUSICAL TALE IS COMING TO CHICAGO!!! omg the UK Watermill theater just announced it - if you can see it GO it was.... absolutely magical. I can only hope it will tour back in the UK again eventually
SAM] There's a Road Calling you to stray. Step by step Pulling you away. [SAM/FRODO] Under Moon and Star Take the Road No matter how far. Where it leads No-one ever knows Don't look back Follow where it goes. Far beyond the Sun Take the Road Wherever it runs. The Road goes on Ever ever on Hill by hill Mile by mile Field by field Stile by stile. The Road goes on Ever ever on The Road goes on Ever ever on Hill by hill Mile by mile Field by field Stile by stile. The Road goes on Ever ever on [RANGERS] Mountain and valley And pasture and meadow Stretching unending For mile after mile. Fenland and moorland And shoreline and canyon Bordered by hurdle And hedgerow and stile [PIPPIN] One more mile Then it's time to eat Pick some pears, Succulent and sweet. [PIPPIN/MERRY] To the farthest shore. Take the Road A hundred miles more. [MERRY] Sweet pink trout Tickled form a stream Milk a goat, Churn it into cream. [MERRY/PIPPIN] Far beyond the Sun Take the Road Wherever it runs. The Road goes on Ever ever on Moor by moor Glen by glen Vale by vale Fen by fen The Road goes on Ever ever on. [FRODO/SAM] See the Road flows past your doorstep Calling for your feet to stray Like a deep and rolling river It will sweep them far away. [ALL] Just beyond the far horizon Lies a waiting world unknown Like the dawn its beauty beckons With a wonder all its own. [ELVES] N?menna! Auti i r?. Yallume! Hilya! N?menna! Auti i r?. Yallume! Hilya! Hilya! Hilya! Auta. Hilya! N?menna! Auti i r?. Yallume! Hilya! [RANGERS] Mountain and valley And pasture and meadow Stretching unending For mile after mile. Fenland and moorland And shoreline and canyon Bordered by hurdle And hedgerow and stile.
I have this amazing song on a loop since watching the superb new version of this show at the Watermill Theatre. Such a haunting song! It is really special.
I made my brother listen to this, and he enjoyed it. But when they get to the "hotta-cotta" part, he said it sounded like they were saying "Hobbits on the, hobbits on the, hobbits on the microphone!" We've been singing it that way since...
If anyone wants to hear this song from this year's production at the Watermill, there's a recording on RU-vid! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fW5LlaFiat8.htmlsi=bQ1pbHUG-4r0oBmY (yes, that is Bilbo on the harmonica).
Galadriel’s singing, particularly the lines “no shadow fall across this land, before the wind and fire I stand” is honestly how I imagine the scene in the Silmarillion where Lúthien kicks serious ass with her song. Absolutely angelic, but undoubtedly powerful, there will be NO shadows, NO storms or darkness, and she is going to make damn sure of it. Incredible.
1:52 will always give me goosebumps. This goes for the whole song, but especially this specific part just SOUNDS like travel. It makes you feel like Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin, like you're setting out on a big adventure on a beautiful day. I think if Tolkien didn't LIKE the musical, he would've appreciated it
I’m here to celebrate the fact that we’re getting a new LOTR musical soon! Hopefully it does better than this one while still being just as good, if not better.
Thank you Eloise. I didn't know this musical of the Lord of the rings. The girls who sing are the Karelian (Finnish) band Värttinä and their music is worth it ! ☺
I was so lucky to see the show in London and it was everything I hoped it would be. It was a beautiful and moving rendition of Tolkien’s world and I still listen to this often. In a word…MAGIC!
Never had the opportunity to watch it live, but I can only hope and imagine that just as Galadriel starts singing is the moment that Sam lifts Frodo. It’s the treatment the moment deserves.
