After some more advanced blacksmithing projects? Check out my channel.
Historical recreations and tool making are my thing and I upload a new video every Saturday on how to have a go yourself at making some slightly more tricky items such as lighting implements, axes and pattern welding to name but a few.
I trained at the National School of Blacksmithing in Hereford, followed by an apprenticeship in restoration and conservation of heritage ironwork. I now work from a 200 year old smithy in Rural England.
As a guitarist I get comments about my long fingernails on my right hand. As a human being I'm amazed how people think its any of their business, let alone advise you to cut them.
Just to reiterate what so many are saying, I’ve been watching your videos for years, so glad you’re back. One of my blacksmithing teachers in Sveg, Sweden, described you as the master of welding. Your work is endlessly inspiring, you’re one of the best Rowan!
The tube on this one was brazed sheet, with the wards brazed onto that. Message me on Facebook - Rowan Taylor - and I will try and send you some pictures of the spare key I made for this one.
Thanks for sharing Rowan. They look like quite a heavy set of tongs? I've always been intrigued by the design as they don't look like they'd grip particularly well. Though using them in pairs makes far more sense. I look forward to the next video. All the best Andy
Thanks for posting this, great to see you posting again. I've made these before, looking forward to trying your dimensions and drawings, great idea. Thanks again.
great work and excellent video. Question for you from a beginner: To my eye the material around the hinge is a little light. Is this a problem? Could you have made a smaller hole and then drifted it larger to save more material?
9:22 particularly fond of this very relatable moment (not just me then). 😂 Also, wickedly accurate and very sardonic Tim Key impression 😅 Awesome video, beautifully shot too. Thanks!
