can you use the switcher in riverside?

Can you elaborate on your question? If we had a switcher as part of this setup, we could use that and the switching would also be done in riverside yes. Within riverside it’ll record both parties and then you can go back and edit as needed. I do not believe you can do it in real time.

Outstanding video Tom, bullseye on so many important points you raise that I myself have experienced in my own broadcast studio management career. I’ll be reminding myself of these 10 points as my own multi-cam “video first” podcasting business develops and launches in 2025 in Michigan. Thanks again for meeting up, showing me around your facility. I’ve already acquired/upgraded some new gear, in particular after a long research initiative, the Roland V6 HD audio/video switcher which seemingly combines the best features of the ATEM, Feelworld, Ossee, SprolinkNeo switchers. I’ll let you know how that goes and likely will post about it on The Studio Business site once I join soon :)

Great information!! I too have the RodeCaster Pro but the 2 with the Atom X Cast. How are you running the output audio from the Rode to the Atem mini? Please. Thanks 😊

Yes, the audio is brought from the rodecaster directly into the atem so it’s all synced up and ready to go without the need to go back and resync.

Great video! As someone who runs a podcast studio, I found it very helpful! You mentioned using the live cut at some point. The Atem mini pro series only records 1080P, have you had any clients complain that it's not 4k? If so, how do you handle it? Also, are you always recording using the ISO feature? I would imagine that the live cut isn't always perfect or if you want a specific edit for a reel, you'd have to go back in and fix it right?
@TheStudioBusiness
@TheStudioBusiness 26 дней назад
Glad it was helpful! We rarely have anyone ask about 4k vs 1080p. If done right, the 1080p can look great and it's never really been a deal breaker. If you wanted to toss SD cards in the cameras, you could get 4k out of it if you wanted to. When it comes to problems with the live cut, yes, sometimes it can make clipping difficult and obviously the cuts made are permanently there. We always tell people if they want to bring their own drive, we will ISO for free. In reality though, the vast vast majority of people take the live cut and are happy with that.
@WanchaiChab
@WanchaiChab 26 дней назад
@@TheStudioBusiness Sweet, I've been hesitant on purchasing the Atem because of the lack of 4k but I think I'll just move forward with that then. I just spend way too much time switch angles in post and think that would be a solid solution. Thank you again!

@@WanchaiChab I work in 1080p and no one has ever complained about it. Of course, I have had clients ask me if I work in 4k, so I created a pricing method. Let me give you some feedback about the community. I think it's pretty rude of me to price someone else's stuff, but $70/month or $744/year is a lot of money, especially for a community that's just starting out and needs engaged members. I'd love to join, but that's money I could really use.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I totally understand where you're coming from. Pricing is always a sensitive topic, and I appreciate your honesty. Our goal with the group is to become value-rich resource for people that are trying to turn this into profitable business venture. So while the monthly fee isn't cheap, we found it appropriate. I understand that it's not as viable for everyone which is why we still continue to post free RU-vid videos and publish a weekly newsletter. We also offer a free trail period for those that want to try it out before committing!

To answer the title question, it is certainly not. I'd say, "a decent $1000 option." Also, I love me some Rode products, but that podmic is one of their weakest offerings. Great looking, thin sounding. I'd shift the cash around and get two Rode Procasters. Wayyyyyy better, and a great alternative to the same old SM7b sound.
@TheStudioBusiness
@TheStudioBusiness 26 дней назад
Well to make up the extra $200 needed for the procasters, we'd need to remove the mic stands or something. What would you do with the $1000?
@badmiddens
@badmiddens 26 дней назад
@@TheStudioBusiness cheaper micstands or booms, samson or something would be just fine. Also, it depends on how attached one is to using something as feature-loaded and sexy as the Rodecaster. For 300 bucks you can do very well with something like an Audient id14 interface.

You said that you record the video files to the SSD and then give that to the client. Are you only giving them the live cut or also the individual files as well? Do you also record using Riverside while recording to the SSD?
@TheStudioBusiness
@TheStudioBusiness 29 дней назад
We just provide the live cut as part of the deal. If you want to bring your own SSD, we can ISO the files and you can take the drive with you as you leave. IF you have the extreme atem with 2 usb-c outs, you can record to ssd and use riverside yes. But if we are using riverside, we do not typically also record to ssd.

@@TheStudioBusiness I see, that is insightful. I had some hiccups with riverside recently, either static/cut outs in the audio due to bad connection or really laggy/low frame rate video for some reason. Never had that happen before either. It wasn't fixable either so my clients weren't happy about that. I figured it would be nice to have backups for both in the future just in case but it seems difficult and expensive to do so.

Outstanding video, I'm about 80% ready to go with my set-up and just about all my gear selection mimics yours. One question...have you had any signal issues running HDMI cables from the cams into the ATEM due to cable length ? Asking because my set-up has a "control room" (area) that is 15-20 feet away from the live action so that is a bit of concern though I suppose I could use HDMI active extenders ?. BTW, also dig that you are using Neewer products...these have been great finds for a lot of my shoots, especially where I am not having to travel the gear and things are static in the studio.

We run 10ft HDMIS now and they are fine, but I've heard that going over 20-25ft can cause some problems. I'd do some research on it, maybe tech has improved, but I recall when I was doing that homework, that was the verdict. Glad you enjoyed the video! how close is the camera to the talent with a max 28mm lens on the A7III? Seems like that would still be pretty wide. Is there a link where we can see one of the podcasts and what the different shots look like on this setup?
@TheStudioBusiness
@TheStudioBusiness 2 месяца назад
The center camera (a7iii) is a 17-28 tamron. Use often use it fully wide when doing groups of 4. The fx30 side cameras have a 28-70 full frame lens (so it has a zoom crop) and we typically have that in 35-50mm. I believe I show example of the different shots at various times in the video, mostly at the start or camera section.
