Never thought about starting a Podcast studio in my area. I already got ALL the equipment needed. This would be a great side business I can start with my kids. GREAT VIDEO!
I appreciate the two-part series on your podcast studio. It has helped me a lot. I can't believe your openness to share about the business side of it. I wish you success in your venture. Sincerity, honesty, and transparency always pay off in the end. Thank you.
Came across your page and watched both pt 1 & pt 2. You’re doing a greater service then what you think by being so honest and transparent about how you’ve started and grown your business with this idea. I’ve been podcasting myself for a few years now and this gives me the reassurance that an idea like this done correctly with the proper resources can go a long way. So thank you..
Hey man, this is amazing. Thank you so much. I'm currently working on starting a podcast production studio here in Upstate New York. We don't really have anything like this here. I would love to adopt many of the methods that you spoke about in this video. Podcasting is a quickly growing industry and it is an amazing way to speak your mind and hangout with friends and just talk about stuff that you're passionate in. I love podcasting and I want to expand and extend the podcast experience to others. Thank you for this video, so many things clicked to me as I was watching and I feel like I'm more on the right track now. Thank you again. #videofirst
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful. I have more videos coming. The addition of podcasting to my video business has been good and I hope the same for you!
I live in Chicago and work in the non profit sector, when the pandemic hit, I wanted to immediately go into providing a space to do something similar, but was clueless. Now on the other side of the the world shutting down, abd seeing your successes, I think youve given me inspiration. This was really great, I look forward to sseing your progress.
This was great! I caught part 1 and was interested in hearing more about the business side of things. This is something I'd be interested in getting into in the future. Thanks for being so generous with the information
Incredibly transparent!! I really appreciate this and you. I saw your posting to rent via Marketplace and coincidentally came across this channel today (same day). I'm up north and appreciate you creating this opportunity for people. Keep it up!!
I could see added value with having a podcast marketing person come in and help folks market their stuff. Either do it in house with yourself, or bring in someone to do it. This kind of studio space is something I'm looking at the area to see if it would be of value to folks here. Thank you for your content!
I hear you, but typically marketing requires some sort of additional ad-spend or a good bit of hands-on outreach and networking. If clients came in with bigger budgets, I'd love to offer more, but I think so far, we are already pushing the boundaries of what your 'average' podcaster can invest.
@@TheStudioBusiness I'd love to see the process from when a clients contacts you, to them leaving the studio after recording an episode. Start to finish with a new client and what you do on your end to get them ready and setup to go.
I thank you for sharing. Coming from a studio background, this looks like an awesome addition. I like the guided approach you have is so beneficial to your clients. Bless you friend.
Really Appreciate this!! And I hope you continue to bring more updates about this. I've been wanting to do something like this for the longest time, I've been purchasing bits and pieces outta my own checks just to get something like this going. The pricing is where I am having the most issues with. I like the simplicity of your pricing and straightforwardness with what you get for that certain amount, nice cut & dry.
Thanks for watching. Yea i spent a long time thinking about pricing and offer too. Too many people just had line item after line item which to me isn't good. If you're going to go rent a space to do it, you really need to be at a good margin. $30-$60 an hour just isn't going to cut it (imo). I've had businesses that pay without batting an eye and individuals that are able to afford it also. If you want quality and a great experience, people will pay more.
@@TheStudioBusiness I absolutely agree 💯 💯 Quality is something that just can't be overseen. And I've been a firm believer in that since the days of downloading RU-vid rips, as a DJ realizing that the quality is HORRIBLE incomparison to a purchased mp3 song. There's no telling just how big someone might blow up, off of a single recording that sounds amazing compared to someone that just records of a cell phone mic. I also helps with knowing who is serious about wanting to pursue making content and those that are just going to waste your time. Awesome video again, thanks for sharing 👍 😀 looking forward to seeing more.... Newly subscribed
Thanks so much for sharing! I am considering doing a similar concept here in the Des Moines, IA area. I'm trying to find more podcasters/personal brands that are considering starting a podcast with a plug and play option similar to this.
Thank you for these videos, part one and two. Im in the process of building a simple home studios for video shows podcasting. These videos have really helped. Thank you.
1st of all, thanks so much for being so transparent with pricing. Many studios of any sort never really divulge their prices. So once again, thank u. 2nd, thanks for your raw honesty! This video really gave me insight into offering podcasting services. Btw, do u just record the podcast for clients, or do u actually offer live streaming for clients? 🤔
You can livestream from this setup, yes. We've had a few people use it for private zoom meetings and such, but not many people taking advantage of the livestreaming part, yet.
I thought of doing this with my space. I think I just don't feel like going through the headache of physically being available. I have the Rode Caster Pro II on order and already own the Atem.
Really appreciate this man!!!! I’m actually laughing my podcast studio next month and this info has been invaluable and I would love to see more!!!! There aren’t a lot of dedicated podcast studios for rent so I’d be one of 2 in my state and the other is almost 4hrs away. And with the growth audio/video podcast are on I see the value (beyond $) that this service can provide! Can you do a video on what you would’ve done differently with the knowledge you have now?
Thanks for your comment and watching! Glad it helped you out - truly my goal with all of it. Best of luck with your studio. I do some reflection at the end of the video but may do another video down the road a bit more. Let me know if there's anything specifically you'd like me to cover.
Awesome studio man! I like that you export mini clips. We just launched one not too long ago and one of our strong value props is the "podcast as pillar content" idea. Even if they cant run a full show, if you want to batch shoot content, or even if the show is great, leave the raws with us, or get your editor to do it, and come out with 10-20 videos from a 2 hour session. We target mostly businesses from our day to day so their spend is a little higher, and if they have a successful business/brand than its well worth the spend for them to walk away with content for the month
Love These Videos On The Studio Side Of Things. Been thinking about starting a podcasting studio business in my area. Love how you priced with packages vs hourly rate.
Thanks for sharing. Was looking into starting this business in my area in Canada. but leasing a 1300SQFT space goes for about $5k a month and i’m scared i wouldn’t make that money back. You’re lucky to have this as an extension of your existing production space!
Yea that may be a bit high. It's starting to pickup and make more now, but still not 5k+. Rentals in Chicago are cheaper I guess! Luckily I found a good deal.
Thank you very much for making this two-part series, now I want to do it on my own! :) Don’t worry, I’m like 6000 miles away, so I am going for a different market :)
Thanks to the person who asked for pt2 video and thank you for following through. I'm interested in building my own Studio/ small business and I don't really know what I need. Most of my experience in this field is very amateur as a content creator using my own personal stuff. That being said, this video is very helpful and I thank you for the helpful video. Are you available for consultation?
Hey! Thanks for your comment - glad you found this series helpful. I've been contacted and spoken with a few viewers from a consulting standpoint about their own setup/ideas. Reach out to the page (link in the description) and I'd be happy to connect with you.
Thanks for posting this video I think I will try and start!!! Love your blueprint would love to use your blueprint (hint, hint) What blankets are you using on the sides of the set?
I gave away the secrets for everyone to use. They are curtains actually, just some cheap amazon ones. I think they are linked in the description. They do not absorb sound though =(
I just started a studio here in @PalmSprings. Mostly for myself with the goal of renting it out to others. Thank you for your contribution and the information. My hometown is Chicago by the way. Keep it up. 🙏🙋♂️👏
Thanks for your comment and watching Vincent! Booms or shotguns are a no-go for me as I'm sure the audio quality would drop given the room size and echo. Lavs are posssssible, but would still require a xlr hookup (or converted to) to work with the mixer. I've seen some other pods use the lavs speakers use and such, but i'm sure that's a bit expensive, difficult and hard to keep clean for everyone.
The audio has been pretty great straight out of the rodecaster (with the internal processing) but I've noticed I'd like a few extra DBs, so I'm looking into getting cloud lifters at some point.
Could you consider making a video showing a studio setup with the Yolo Box Ultra, a desktop product stand that can hold more than 20 pounds a mutil camera setup and a Rhode Caster Pro 2 as well as a Stream Deck XL? Your studio concepts are great and if you can find people with the right skills who you can trust its an excellent contact to franchise. Thank you very much for telling me where to get those metal looking plates. I can't wait to get them at home Depo.
Just looking into the YoloBox now! Wasn't familiar with it. I would consider it, but we don't have a lot of those other items and unless these brands want to send them for review, I'm not sure we will go out of our way to do it. But sounds like a good setup!
Man, this video truly gives insights on what I am doing right now. Thank you so much for putting your effort into making this content. Anyway, I have a concern about pricing: do we need to also list up our gears that may help us hit higher offers to clients?
Really appreciate time and effort and transparency.....not many are willing to open up about numbers etc. such an important thing to get your head around so you can manage expectations. I’d love to see how you might handle remote guests? Obviously with things like zoom it’s easy to bring people together but how you actually would bring them “into the studio” how best to record them and work around Zooms issues of audio latency and low resolution.....or maybe ditch zoom altogether? There’s got to be better offerings out there. Obviously the picture and sound are only going to be as good as the guests equipment which can be hit or miss.
This is an area I'm hoping to improve. But the truth is maybe 5% of sessions so far have been via zoom. I just hdmi in the laptop feed and have audio directly going into rodecaster. Works fine with minimal latency to my eye.
Nice. I want to know more; I have basically most of the equipment. I just need the space for it. I'm probably moving next year, and offsetting part of the rent would be helpful.
No, it's not something I really covered. The software used while recording is Black Magic's Atem Control Software. Aside from that we use premiere pro for editing. Thanks!
Can we get an update on these numbers and a little bit deeper dive into the actual business model? Debating doing the work to create an office space for the self employed in the digital world to lease out and subcontract ’packages’ to clients that use the studio.
Well it helps having everything ready to go and at our one location. We aren't doing on-site podcasts at this point yet. Thanks for the comment though, George! Looks like we are fairly close by to one another.
Very nice videos. Thank you for making, both were very informative. Do have a question tho. How do you deliver the files to clients? This is something I would enjoy a video on. What i mean is. After their session. Do you hand deliver them an SD card? flash drive? email the files?? how is this process handled. Also, are the social media clips delivered immediately after the session?.. Again thank your for the videos
Glad you liked it and thanks for watching. We simply upload them to dropbox right after the session. We have really fast internet and each episode takes about 20-30 min. The social clips are after, but typically within a week.
Wix! It was a template they offered. Just modified to work for me. Easy to use, but still requires some skill. I've just built a few websites over the years, so it wasn't too bad.
Considering opening one for my real estate media business. Can you explain the process of providing the video and audio to the client right afterwards?
We just upload the files to dropbox and send them pretty much right after the session. The switcher will spit out the video directly after you hit stop recording.
HI, we are exactly in the same situation, but on the other side of the world. I also run a video production company and I am planning to do the same thing - video podcast studio as a side/extra gig. How it's going after one year and do you have any more tips to share???? :)
Very noble. Kinda surprised you’d make a “how to set up a competing enterprise” video. And to think major networks rented space and the monthly income was still just that. By way of comparison (obviously apples and oranges), I just read Taylor Sheridan rents his own ranches to his production company for $50k/mo (shooting Yellowstone or 1883 or whatever they are). If the studio is open, say, 200 hours a month and you have maybe 5 booked hours so far per month, and that’s gross income, then it appears the business can’t stand on its own. The “studio rental” model would just have to supplement someone who had a studio for their own purposes anyway maybe. Great informative video series. I hope at least people use your affiliate links and you make some commish there.
Yea I figured I'd make the videos that I would have liked to see when I was starting. Obviously I don't want more competition in the local area to me, but if you have a studio elsewhere, I don't think it's hurting me. Luckily the business has picked up considerably since this original posting and now has a more reasonable monthly income associated with it.
You may be right. It is definitely not 'cheap'. I've wondered if my prices were 1/2 as much or even 30% cheaper if I'd have more clients. Of the people that are currently paying this rate, most people seem to be okay with it and are willing to invest more to get a higher quality product than they were producing on their own. I'm planning to do some sales here and there so we will see.
Do it and hope no one minds 👀 it’s in our contracts that we can use your content for promotion purposes we don’t release anyone’s full episodes or anything just a 3-4 second clip here and there.
I’m in a different area, but I am close to you. I’m looking to do something like this to offset the cost of another business. Can I come visit your studio, and meet you?
Good info! But can't get ever the fact that he's holding that mic with the heavy base plate for the whole thing haha. Someone get this guy a boom stand or a lapel mic
@@TheStudioBusiness Hey man I am just giving you a hard time. I honestly really enjoyed the videos on the podcasts. very nicely done and great info! You're a big help!
