I realise I'm a bit late to this but I've been having this problem only in the last two days. Even when I pause Windows Updates I can see my HDD doing overtime in the background and upon checking the resource monitor I can see Windows Updates files processing which is severely haemorrhaging my PC's speed. Despite that, upon following these steps it doesn't appear that my WinRE partition's size was increased. I started at 500MB and when I checked at the end it still says 500MB. Can't imagine I did anything wrong but has anyone experienced this?
So I just checked, and it's showing 250MB free on the disk and definitely reduced my primary partition, but it didn't add it to the newly created partition or anywhere else...? Am I missing something here?
Ok, so I read through the rest of the comment section and found that I had to increase by a further 500MB for the WinRE partition to have the extra 250MB assigned. Hopefully it'll work now. Edit: The update was successful.

Hey man thanks very much, i was having this issue for almost 2 years. i was actually losing hope to update to windows 11, you are doing god's work man keep up with the content bro!
There is a much easier way to do this, as a computer tech I have done it 100's of times on clients computers. Again you want to do the "reagentc /info" to find where you reagent is installed, but I use a program called IM Magic Partition Resizer to just shrink the end of the system partition and then expand the reagent partition. It will not do it an a running environment so it then will run a batch of the resizing on next boot. Just shrink the system partition by 300MB to 500MB. After the reboot and the bath runs, run updates again and it works every time for me.
I just realized there is no asterisk below GPT or MBR. How do I do this? It's not MBR or GPT. I already deleted the recovery partition and cant run create command.

This is brilliant. Thank you so much. This fixed the issue for me, after I had spent hours this afternoon researching notes from Microsoft and trying to apply scripts that were supposed to fix the issue but didn't work on my ancient PC (or I was applying the intended remedies wrong). Your instructions were perfect, to the point, and I was able to execute all the steps.
I have a couple of questions and im stressing... 1. You never pressed enter when shrinking the desired/minimum values... were we supposed to not hit enter on that line? 2. Mine didnt work after following, i did it again allowing a further 500mb instead of 250, still no luck. Do i need to 'undo' the changes ive made or whats the next steps? 3. My lists of drives/ volumes werent in the same order as yours, is this of concern or normal ? Many thanks! Followed :)

It worked! I just triple checked each step so I did not want to fuck something up. For those who have two Recovery partition use the number from the partition displayed from the reagentc /info command that he explains in the video.

Open a Command Prompt window (cmd) as admin. To check the WinRE status, run reagentc /info. If the WinRE is installed, there should be a “Windows RE location” with a path to the WinRE directory. An example is, “Windows RE location: [file://%3f/GLOBALROOT/device/harddisk0/partition4/Recovery/WindowsRE]\\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition4\Recovery\WindowsRE.” Here, the number after “harddisk” and “partition” is the index of the disk and partition WinRE is on. To disable the WinRE, run reagentc /disable Shrink the OS partition and prepare the disk for a new recovery partition. To shrink the OS, run diskpart Run list disk To select the OS disk, run sel disk<OS disk index> This should be the same disk index as WinRE. To check the partition under the OS disk and find the OS partition, run list part To select the OS partition, run sel part<OS partition index> Run shrink desired=250 minimum=250 To select the WinRE partition, run sel part<WinRE partition index> To delete the WinRE partition, run delete partition override Create a new recovery partition. First, check if the disk partition style is a GUID Partition Table (GPT) or a Master Boot Record (MBR). To do that, run list disk. Check if there is an asterisk character (*) in the “Gpt” column. If there is an asterisk character (*), then the drive is GPT. Otherwise, the drive is MBR. If your disk is GPT, run create partition primary id=de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac followed by the command gpt attributes =0x8000000000000001 If your disk is MBR, run create partition primary id=27 To format the partition, run format quick fs=ntfs label=”Windows RE tools” If your disk is MBR, run set id=27 To confirm that the WinRE partition is created, run list vol To exit from diskpart, run exit To re-enable WinRE, run reagentc /enable To confirm where WinRE is installed, run reagentc /info

I'm doing the exact same thing in my rental...same yellow tub stains, etc. But I was wondering if mineral spirits are safe on the plastic tub surrounds?
So I have a question say the drawer opening is 28 1/2” wide but with drawer slides it takes away 1” so it ends up being 27 1/2” what would the measurements be of the front piece (keep in mind I want the dove tails showing on the sides) THANKS!

I would leave the height of my drawer's with extra height and then once I fit the box together, put it on the tablesaw and trim the height, it will be perfect.
