Just an Irish musician in his green Jeep. JLU. UrsaMinor top. Metalcloak front bumper, AEV rear. Rhino-Rack Batwing awning. Rock Sliders Step Sliders (a'cuz we Irish ain't in a tall way!). AAL dual compressor aux battery mount. More to come!
Same here, upper seam disintegrated right where the strap is stichted to the bag (which is utter nonsense design) after 4 years of slight use. What a bummer ..
I DID THE AEV DUAL SPORT LIFT. AEV'S QUALITY IS "OVER" ENGINEERED. THERE IS VERY LITTLE ROOM FOR ANY SLOP. GOOD BAD OR INDIFFERENT, TIME ALOTED FOR INSTALLS PER THEIR VALUES, ADD ATLEAST 3 EXTRA HOURS FOR ANY AEV INSTALLATION. I FELT YOUR PAIN BROTHER. AS FOR THE HOLE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TIRE CARRIER PLATE, RUN YOUR WIRING UP THE BOTTOM AND IT WILL GIVE YOU A BIT MORE SLACK AND HIDE THE WIRE BETTER.
I'm not an electrician, but my understanding is the Red Arc is what lets you charge the aux off the main. You could isolate the back battery and only charge it with solar, but I think you'd still need a battery charge controller like the red arc
Great review! Definitely contemplating this setup! Little bit of a bummer that we have to make all those cuts to make the wires fit, but it does look clean. Also, rad music! 🤙
Thanks! That's a song called "Something to Help You Along" off my first solo album called "A Danger to Yourself". Check out the music video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yrIxM50FEnk.html
I just added an Overland Pros 4K Wraptor 270 awning and was wondering about the stress on the Ursa Minor structure in the wind. The 4K Wraptor is free standing but has poles for windy conditions. Have you had any issues?
The second time I went to deploy it, it was in a strong wind on asphalt and I had to replace a hinge - I'll post a video about that when I get the chance. Since then, I've been very cautious and always put weight bags or tent pole anchors in the ground with no issues.
Hi, nice install video! Can I ask you why removing the tow hitch? I don't see you putting it back. Is removing it a necessary step to the install (I could not see it in the instructions). Thanks!
Hey I know this is an older video, but I just bought the batwing and I’m curious…where do you fasten that retention strap when you have the camper deployed?
Saw another YT'er with an Urs Minor and he used Ironman 4x4 quick release awning brackets for his awning. Looks like those are perfect for a 1-man install as well as taking the awning off and on with ease if the Jeep is your daily driver also and you don't want to leave it on 24/7.
Mine is in the mail. Thanks for the video. Really helps to watch someone install it. I installed the AEV 2.5 JL lift and went fairly smoothly, albeit arduous on a garage floor by myself. Fun projects nonetheless.
Great video. Wish you had filmed how you actually put the thing on the rack. I’m trying to figure out how to do it by myself at the moment. Thanks for the video.
Bro, how was your spare tire been holding up? After offroading a few times, my spare fell off on a trail. The one long bolt holding the spare and the retaining bolt are suspect! Any issues you’ve experienced? I’m just glad my 35 inch spare tire didn’t fall off on the freeway!
Have had to adjust the turnbuckle a couple of times because it started to rattle. The bolt/nut on it actually shook loose once! I guess the lesson is: check that turnbuckle frequently, esp if you’re on some rougher trails.
yeah I agree... seems so weird that they wouldn't have thought of that. Mine just arrived so will be installing this weekend. Will let you know if i find a different way. PS the video is super helpful, great work.
So I installed mine over the weekend, you can route the wiring harness through the middle of the fuel caddy. There is a channel/slot for it. Its a bit tricky to juggle all the bits when putting it through but it does work.
After seeing this makes one wonder how American made verses China is better. Sure decades ago American made carried the legacy of quality workmanship, but in today's world of capitalism being first....I just don't see that quality
I HAVE RECENTLY FOUND THAT SOME CHINESE MADE STUFF IS BETTER QUALITY THAN AMERICAN. AMERICAN MANUFACTURES ARE GETTING WAY LAZY WITH QA. @LONG-JEEP, ANY PARTS FALLING OF BOEING AIRCRAFT? POINT MADE.
Thank you so much for this video! It saved my sanity installing this bumper. I have the park assist which was Also not mentioned in the AEV instructions and would have made me cry if I had to take so much off that I put on. I had to tap 2 of the bolt holes due to miss threading and alignment issues. but I sure do love the 10 gallon tank. (which is why I bought it). Thank you again!
Leonard - glad it was helpful! I sure felt a little alone when I was doing it. Also - so good to know I'm not the only one who was frustrated by those threading/alignment issues! I kept thinking, "how can these holes be mis-threaded?!"
Yeah mine just showed up. How on earth did you handle the parksense? That is the only part that seems just so overwhelming to me. Did you have to reuse the factory plastic brackets/holders for the sensors? Everything else thus far has been OK, other than the ubolts which AEV claims to torque to 45 lb but there's no way in hell as the metal tabs will break off if you do that.
How did you get it? Through the lottery, or from a retailer? Also how long did it take? I really like this design and how they actually tie in the corners to the frame to protect the rear corner of the body. However it seems like AEV just can't seem to make these things at any sort of reasonable speed or in reasonable quantity.
LET ME KNOW A PROFESSIONAL THAT HAS INSTALL MANY OF THESE? THERE AREN'T AND MAYBE NONE. VERY FEW OFFROAD SHOP DEAL WITH AEV AND THOSE THAT CARRY THE PART HAVE NEVER INSTALLEE BUMPERS...
No issues so far. I did notice the turnbuckle needs tightening after a some rattling around. I actually haven't used the fuel tank yet, but I don't anticipate any issues with their self-starting siphon.
Great video. I have front and rear bumpers waiting to go on. Waiting for the rear tire carrier to come in. It's on backorder. Just wondering if you ended up with a lot of extra washers?
I didn’t end up with a ton of extra washers...I had some leftover hardware, but part of that is not adding on the mud flaps (because I’m not too keen on cutting up the body panel of the Jeep just to install a plastic flap)
Did you ever get the other bolt in the fascia plate? I'm having trouble with the two bolts on the lower passenger side fascia plate. I thought for the money these bumpers would be easier to install.
@@greenirishjeep I got all of mine in finally, but it's a very tight fit. Every bolt needs to be started and then tighten them down starting with the bottom most bolts.
I went with the Overland Vehicle Systems and I totally relate to you with respect to the installation. They also sent me two brackets and enough hardware for two.. when I called them, they pretty much told me to go to hardware store and get more if I needed more and that they don't have extras!! At home depot, I got the right bolt and nuts... installing and lining up the darn thing for the holes (which I had to enlarge) was a BITCH!! Bit it's done. Congrats on yours, it looks pretty nice.
I know ARB is the go-to for Ursa Minor, but I was really impressed with what I found online about the Batwing. It'll be nice to get some miles on it and report back once I've had the chance to use it a while! Let me know, if you go for it, how it goes.
@@greenirishjeep I've got a J30 and I'll be scheduling to have them install the side-mounting brackets. I'm between the batwing and the batwing compact... is yours here a regular batwing or is it the "compact" version? ... and do you feel there are any issues regarding the weight or operation of the batwing on the J30 brackets? ... can you share an update?
