I personally house ruled against this. I think the diagonal rule is both illogical and ignorant. The universe doesn't care what direction you take when you move 10 feet, Without obstacles and obstructions involved, it will take you the same time and effort to reach your destination regardless. If you stop treating the game world as a 2D game board then it becomes more immersive for players and hosts.
This rule goes all the back to the 3.0 version of D&D but it was in the monster manual, not the players hsndbook. For all the copy & paste PF 1st was, they didn't copy & paste that into the core rulebook, nor bestiary. People would argue about it in the first few years, paise even had a BS answer for a while about it not being possible to 5'step diagonally to beat the reach while claiming people could not attack that way on the map talking about going from 15 to 5 would trigger on the way in above if not allowing the reach person to do it on their turn. Plenty of the GMs in PFS knew the correct way to handle it from back in D&D and kept using that method. I think that us why PF eventually did a web article supporting that reach could allow attacking 2 diagnosis away, because they knew it was in their best interest to support the GMs in PFS that were supporting the PF game itself. I wish Paizo just admitted they made an error about but in the first place. Eventually a accessory product was released of cards showing what squares could and couldn't be attacked into and I think they issued an errata for it that you could print out yourself to show the newly acknowledged accepted threatening squares.
My group and I have been getting into P2E and we noticed that the Monk archetype you need 10th level to take furry of blows, why is that I have to wait till 10th level to take a 1st level ability while other archetypes need to be only 4th level?
I thank you for the clear presentation of the rules. tho those reach rules sure do suck for mounted combat. Is there any actual way to get 15 foot reach by raw while also riding a horse?
Don’t if you seek this since this vid is old, but as a barbarian during a rage how do you claim to the dm to use Spirit of Shield reaction? Would it be after your attack during your turn? Or after party member taking damage on their turn or enemies’s turn? A described scenario would help too! (I’m still very new I’m sorry)😭
This was a good overview. I am curious was there any coverage about how to splice into a Mythic style game when the campaign did not start out that way ?
From what I understand looking at other coverage, a character can become mythic after completing a Mythic Trial. The Mythic status doesn't have to start at the beginning this way -- it can come in later. Also, you don't have to follow the exact level schematic with the Mythic stuff. You can increase your player's Mythic Rank whenever they do something in the story you feel is worthy of being a Mythic Trial.
Hey i was wondering how to work out the dc of the counteract check against an item say for casting darkness against an ever burning torch Or would darkness automatically suppress the light for its duration or would the torch keep glowing Thanks
The exemplar sounds pretty fun but somewhat gamey. Like, how does having 3 magic items and a divine spark that alternates between them evoke the feeling of being a demigod? but I'm probably missing something
Most of the mythical hero's we think of fit this mold pretty well tbh, it's not that you have 3 magic items, it's that you have 3 items that have imbued themselves into your divinity. Think king Arthur and the sword in the stone or Thor and Mjolnir. meanwhile, body ikons, or ikons that take the form of parts of your body rather than items outside of it represent the impossible feats. worn ikons are the least common, but I think most often represent more implied powers of these people. King arthur would wear the crown, even if in the story his crown wasn't explicitly magical, his presence and leadership *is*. Alltogether, the Ikon system allows you to intuitively mix and match the traits that make up a mythic hero's legend.
Because unlike almost all other classes, the Exemplar's power is not from rigorous practice or study. Their Power comes from a Divine Spark that grants them the Legendary Abilities PCs are known for. And PCs are generally Demigods to some degree anyway. There is a Fighter Feat at high levels that allow them to swing their weapon and bat away spells. The Exemplar is just making that Power a given thing instead of earned.
@@Olimar92 I think this is reductive tbh, yes, it's true these people are given a spark of divinity, but to reduce it to given power ignores that the divinity is only grown through *litterally* earning it. you need to cultivate a legend for your divinity to manifest. a level 1 exemplar is simply manifesting given divinity, but by level 20 your feats, ikons and most of all epithets are gained through the actions you take and the names you earn. Of course flavor is free, you can make a lazy exemplar who's been gifted godly power if you wish, but narritively you are meant to cultivate the tiny spark of divinity in you through legendary action, the book goes into detail on how an exemplar should ideally inform the GM of what epithets they are going for so the GM can place appropriate challenges in front of their characters to narratively earn said titles You are correct to identify all high level characters as demi-god like. A fighter can slash through the space in front of them in order to cut enemies at long distances. a monk can physically ascend, becoming so in balance that their body becomes weightless and their punches hit the soul. What separates this from the exemplar then is not the literal weight of their capabilities, but the narrative behind them.
My players have been absolutely foaming at the mouth for this book to come out, and one of them is considering reclassing into Vindicator. Thanks for covering it, sometimes having someone explain in a video helps me comprehend more than just reading alone does.

Man, just discovered your channel all these years later. This video was excellent! I'm about to GM my first 5E game and am trying to quickly learn the RAW as fast as possible. Most of the rules are clear and easy, but OA and Flanking were tricky. I do have a question about initiative and movement and how it affects these rules. If player A is adjacent to creature A, and player B is not, but player B wins initiative and uses their movement to get to the opposite side of the creature and attack, then player B has advantage (flanking) correct? Likewise on player A's turn, they now have advantage because of player B's movement choice. However, if player A had won initiative and attacked BEFORE player B moved, then it would have been a normal attack, correct? I know it sounds obvious, but I am trying to understand "simultaneous actions" in a round that is only 6 seconds long. It seems to be that player B declaring they are moving to the opposite side of creature A would happen at the same time as player A's attack, and the creature would be distracted thus each player (regardless of initiative) would gain advantage. Of course it gets complicated if on initiative, create A declared it was using disengage and running away. If the creature had lost initiative to both player A & B, the flanking would have worked? It's odd to me because in that 6 seconds, the creature is very much moving 30 feet away from both players so I can't see how player B could get behind it. I just confused myself.
That sounds correct to me. And if Player A won initiative they could use the Ready Action with the trigger, “if player b moves into flanking I’ll attack” so they get advantage too. Also note that flanking is an optional rule and not every DM uses it.
I like the recall knowledge ability but my major issue with it is if you're fighting a creature that could well be of two different related types but even a critical success with religion could be worthless if the subject is actually an elemental. Wasted actions even with good rolls feels kinda pathetic
Definitely thinking of playing this. Are there some records on character class, ancestry? How about a free archetype (we allow that)? Kinda feels like Investigator + cleric would;d be solid given the u dead docs midway, and the harsh environment.
Book looks good although surprised they didn't go with different animal types for centaurs like lion or panther bodies. Basically make taurs of any large animal possible.
I already knew I wanted this to help give me consistent grapples and such, but now I know this will be ESSENTIAL for the Minotaur Monk I am cooking for my first Pathfinder game.
I had this question, and haven't been able to find an answer. What about grabbing and dragging someone you have grappled or restrained? I know you have your house rule, but Im asking by RAW

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade but we found this one to be a mess. There's so many dropped plot threads and baffling decisions in it. This ranks with some of the worst APs in our book; definitely the worst 2e one so far.
