Hi. I'm Kim and I want to help you as you learn about Cigar Box Guitars. I upload on Thursdays, mostly beginner tutorials but also document my own progress as I learn new techniques.
My website beginnercbg.com has lots of articles to read and helpful sheets to download. I'm adding more chord sheets and song sheets every week.

Kim! This was a great video! The demonstration of the Rhythm - Loop function was well done. There are times in my live looping gig that I just want to hit play on the looper and play guitar, sing, take my solos and not think about hitting a foot switch. This enables me to record the drums on track 1 and add bass guitar and whatever else to track 2. Save. Turn off the drum machine. Then hit play. Awesome! I have a feeling I will be creating more using this method. Thanks so much!

Hi 👋 , thnx for yer videos . I had RC30 boss. Since it’s not working anymore .. it had a function ( donno what’s called ?) I could strum my guitar in rhythm and RC30 wud pick up the tempo of my strumming . And hi hat wud start . Rather than choose a rhythm first and then strum the guitar .. does RC 500 has that function ? Could it pick up the strumming . ? Tempo . Appreciate so much if you guide. Thanks

I felt so inadequate. The Boss guide was incomplete gibberish, not even complete gibberish. 🤣 YT “experts” show off to those who already know. I came on YT one last time, searching for a tutorial I can understand because I had made up my mind to sell it for a simpler loop pedal. I found you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Hello and congratulations for your channel, I always follow you.. I wanted to ask you for some info: I have the RC500 and I would like to know if it is possible to start the song by creating a drum kit with the guitar "but not letting the public hear it and therefore not letting it go out from the speakers" but simply record it in the RC and then use it for example in the middle of the song, maybe there is a function? Thank you!

Thank you for the informative video! Have you had experience with the tracks not syncing with each other even with the correct setting? Trying to record rhythm and lead for both tracks but when I try to track the second track, it doesn’t sync up correctly. Any advice or setting that you noticed works best?

Hi Kim, I just learn to play CBG. What is the best tuning for playing fingerstyle in CBG ? I feel its quite hard to access bass and melody that quite far away in GDG tuning, or DAD tuning. Thanks

Huge appreciation to you for your helpful tips! I found another tip you might like, in case you haven't found this - "Auto Start." I noticed that you've had to practice stomping to trigger the record. I've never been great at that. I like to use "Auto Start" - it delays your loop start until you make your first sound. This has always been helpful for me. I found these instructions on the Roland support site: 1. Select the memory to edit. 2. Press the [MEMORY] button. - The memory settings screen appears. 3. Turn the [MEMORY/VALUE] knob to select “REC,” and press the [MEMORY/VALUE] knob. 4. Turn the [MEMORY/VALUE] knob to select “AUTO REC,” and press the [MEMORY/VALUE] knob. 5. Turn the [MEMORY/VALUE] knob to select “ON.” 6. When you press the [REC/PLAY] switch, the REC/PLAY indicator flashes rapidly and the unit enters record standby mode. Once you start playing, the REC/PLAY indicator lights and recording begins. 7. Press the [MEMORY] button to return to the play screen. 8. If you want to save the edited settings, execute the write operation.

How about a 6 string CBG in Bb? It's tuned D, G, C, F, A, D so it transposes down a step from concert pitch.

Hello Kim. First it's right to say what everyone else has, thank you, you have a gift for explanation. Second, I'm over 80 and have difficulty reaching down to the floor pedal so the purchase of the FS6 was key. However, it would help me considerably if you could give me some guidance in setting up the FS6 so that it provides the basic functions, Record, Play, Stop and Start.

When you switch from Variation A to B. This is where the fill is activated. It will play different fills depending on how much time is left in the measure.

Just started with mine - quick question please - when i save the loop does it have to be playing - which is what you did and how do i play back a saved loop from the memory.I've noticed with memory setting there is a rec and play option ? Thanks for the demo.Laters - sorted it ! Factory reset the system and tried again - pedals working and memory changes to white when it's recorded something.Plays back fine - just got in a bit of a muddly duddly !

I am currently going through many videos on the subject and I think I have found it. For example, you can set the 3rd pedal to variation. If you then press this pedal, the variation of the rhythm comes. First, the pedal 3 must be deactivated, because the function is not found under the standard settings: MEMORY > CONTROL > PDL3 FUNC (OFF) Now the variation can be stored for example under Assign 1: MEMORY > ASSIGN1 > ON MEMORY > ASSIGN1 > SOURCE > PEDAL 3 MEMORY > ASSIGN1 > SCR MODE > MOMENT (As long as the pedal is pressed Rhythm Variation B is played) MEMORY > ASSIGN1 > TARGET > VARIATIO To record the rhythm with variation you have to make the settings as you described at the end of the video. INPUT > RHYTHM > LOOP If you use the 3 footswitch for the standard function, you can also connect an external switch and assign the function to it.

My friend just loaned me one of these. I messed around with it a little. Like anything it has a learning curve. Your demo was very useful. Thanx for posting. Most times I dont hit the button to stop recording and start playback at exactly the right time. Im wondering if you have a drum beat going and then record a guitar track and dont hit the button to start playback at the exact right time, will the lopper automatically start the playback at the right time (start of the measure) ??? thats what I need

Can you please tell me, if it has the outro fill feature, as the RC-10 does?
@enavy04

In my time with the RC-500, I figured out that the fills kick in when you transition between the A & B variations, with the Variation Change set to Loop End.
