I like how String is just completely fucking cutthroat, the stark contrast between him and D is just so apparent. My favorite part that really encapsulates this the most is when D asks where the money goes and String doesn’t even respond, as if it wasn’t obvious enough where and who it was going too lol
So here’s what I don’t know: if she had felt differently about herc’s offer, could she have just done it? They make it sound like if she wants to blow off her other work and go on a raid with herc that there would be no problem. Can cops do that?
“We go back a little” I think this is the only time in the Wire that Dominic West’s real accent comes through in five seasons. And that includes his bad fake accent in season 2. Such a great performance. Blew my mind when I found out he wasn’t from Bal’mer
Dude, you're in the criminal game. The primary power is violence, intimidation, and rep. Not wholesaling lol You act like a business, you're just another business. You're no gang. And the real ones will take it all from ya by acting like one. The reason why you need to maintain territory is to keep the rest of em rivals in check; to prevent their expansion of power. And Slim's right, they can reject your product one day for an undercutting competitor. Perhaps they could've done something similar to The Greek if they were as discrete of a presence, but they're street gangs after all.
That kid no doubt saw what happened to Bodie when he swung on a cop. No way he's coming out after bailing with a bag. I'd come turn myself in politely the next day with a lawyer. This is a young Carver who was about himself and not the work. You don't see this dude someday busting one of his own men for being exactly like this or having to control a room full of pissed off cops. You don't picture this Carver ever being civil with dealers or wanting to adopt a little Yo'. Carver put people through it and went through it himself.
Marlo was always threatening Bodie and talking smack to him. However, he had an underlying respect for him. He understood Bodie was a real soldier. He wasn’t one of Standield’s ‘kind’, but a soldier nothingtheless. The one who at end, actually liked him was Chris. When Marlo gave the order to have Bodie killed, Chris initially hesitated. Chris carried it out, but you could see he initially would have rather left Bodie alone, having gained his respect.
This scene explains 2 of my coworkers that been with the company 11+yrs. We make service trucks now but before they got into that business the owner owned a car dealership little by little my 2 coworkers were learning how to make service trucks and eventually the owner sold the dealership and opened a shop where we build service trucks my 2 coworkers make pretty good money but not compared to the owner. dude is a millionaire. My coworkers are the brains to this whole thing they figured out how to do everything and they’re not millionaires it’s crazy.
This is one of my all time favorite scenes. As some who frequents home improvement establishments, the details here are priceless from start to finish. ie...betw. 03 to 08, the bald white guy staring at Snoop, with the slight pause, before he turns away. The set up walking the aisles, the tool geek vs gangsta, and the Finale with Chris. Absolutely a classic.
For real though Hilti powder nail guns are the fucking business, anything that can drive a nail through plate steel into concrete is good shit and Hilti make the best. The Wire was a great ad.
