I had a very nice r107 a few years ago. Loved the car but must admit the complexity of the roof was a factor. In selling it. Currently have an r230, which is much easier but a potential nightmare if it fails..😂
Nice video, dealt with the “”reality “”of handling the R107 soft top. As shown always release pressure before bringing ti tools out. Thanks for explaining the fold sequence,,
These are rubbish, dont waste your time or money. Go to your local mot station, they will do it in 10 mins for a modest fee. These always fail fast. That round pulse pump fails in minutes. These are the car equivalent of miracle hair grow tonic.
Love your vids Ed. I changed out my blower motor cap, the first seal and blower motor but couldn’t figure out how to change the lower seal under the blower motor. How is that done? I was lucky and found no corrosion or rust in my 1980 450 SL. Thank you!!!
Go to home depot or ?? buy a gauge that read around 60 psi , get a braze barb fitting to attach a piece of hose , with 2 clamps .disconnect the cold start valve , attach the hose to the rail , you are ready .Also looking at that video , you must organize the spark plug wires away from any fuel line . There is a fire waiting there [ common ]
Great attempt but wrong! The repair kit is very easy to fit, put the kit together on your handle but without the handle lobe in the new recess, then use a small flat head and pressure on the new lock actuator tab where the rod goes while using the screwdriver to tease the lobe into the recess. It took me less than two minutes, start to finish.... no swearing, use of a vice or eye protection. The spring will naturally sit in place then finish by a final tap on the locating pin.
And also I have to get one more opinion regarding the oil Grade mean 20w40 or 20w 50 which one we have use please provide the valuable information Thank And much appreciated
I was tending to use 20w50 in the P38. I don’t know how much difference it makes, but many seem to favour the thicker oil for the Rover V8 as the engines get older.
Hi I have the same problem facing it my car but it’s really difficult to find the parts how do I fix it you have any options I am in UAE please give me some suggestions that would be appreciated Really appreciate your fix it’s been very helpful to others great job 🙏
Are Land Rover not able to ship to UAE? parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/stc3063-kit-cam-door-lock.html?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6auyBhDzARIsALIo6v9O7Cu24oOvcjc--P8XiV6Dt2Ke-XsmJpYjB4-pEbqMFh6lURCM5sIaAmqcEALw_wcB
It’s Ok, 90 is a bit more than I would cruise at but it doesn’t become wayward at that speed like the Classic does a bit. Brakes were good for their time but by modern standards distances will be longer - I wouldn’t say it’s really a car for hard drivers.
Good video. A quick tip. When putting the soft top away, I put a thin towel across the length of the plastic windows. I feel like this reduces scratches from forming where the plastic rubs/folds against itself.
If your windows develop those scratches over time, I have found that applying wax (like what you use on your paint) does a great job of hiding those marks. Makes your windows look crystal clear.
Great video, lovely looking car. I went to the same place to get my head lining done, and pillers, Just love the P38, I had top hat linners done on my 4.6 V8 Gems engine done as well 👍
I couldn’t get the kink out of the additional pipe on that back - the length and path from one end to the other is such that it kinks. I could try cutting it a bit shorter I guess.
Hi Ed, cant tell you how many times ive watched this video! Im UK based too, essex specifically, but willing to travel > i wondered if you could perhaps recommend anyone who knows the cars well for welding a similar job on my R107? I have some rust that needs cutting out and replacing on the right plenum chamber on my vehicle. Thanks, James
What a Rube Goldberg mechanism this locking system is. I did get everything working using the technique in this video. After, a buddy of mine and I installed a failsafe work around should if this ever happen again. I attached a string to the center pin release and ran it back into the trunk. Now, if it ever gets stuck again, I have a manual release alternative!
Thanks. I followed this video a few months ago to fix my handle. I struggled to get the clip wrapped around (12.30min mark), so I used a screwdriver to apply force and push it in.
Amazing video. Can any of you help answer a question - I just acquired a 1972 350SL (450SL). I need new injectors. This video shows Yellow, my engine has Green\Blue ish. What is the difference. I think mine are FJ119. There is so much good info online but also a lot of terrible info..... any live knowledge and experience would be great.
Glad that you liked the video! I found this series of articles very useful for D Jet generally, mentions different colours - jetronic.org/en/d-jetronic/injector I think Mercedes should be able to confirm OEM part numbers for car.
2:30. My 450SL has a big hole right there at the top of that part and it’s a cavity there. I’ve gotta take the wing off but there is a few inches of weld at the front of the wing to the front radiator support beam.
Was the issue the injector seals did you figure it out I have the exact same problem and can get it to keep ruining It does run but once I press the gas pedal it shuts off
So I slightly misspoke in the video - replacing the injector seals improved the vacuum sealing, but loss of fuel pressure was probably caused by the injectors themselves leaking, because the fuel pressure is in the fuel circuit, rather than the air.
Hi I did all of this that you just demonstrated But car won’t start it starts but turn off after a couple seconds do you have any idea why ? I would appreciate your help
Are you sure you reinstalled the fuel lines and all wiring correctly? It sounds like maybe the injectors are not firing / fuel pressure not sufficient.
Next to the wing where the hinge meets the car there is a little area where water pools on both sides of my 450SL. People say there is a drain hole there but i have seen it dry and fully lit and no drain hole appears to be there. So I have to dry it out each time it rains a lot to keep the water from sitting there.
