Nice to see a R107 without all the Pollution Control hoses sticking out of the Top and Side of the Air Filter Housing, It just does not Belong on such a fine car. The Overspray on the firewall and Painted blower motor box is very noticeable. The Dark Red paint is shiny and nice and thankfully no visible Rust.

hi. have you replaced the bad tensioner? what brand did you get? i have the same sound like urs but occasionally (i mean not on every start). so bought a Febi Tensioner and will be replacing soon. Did the sound stop when you replaced your tensioner? (i have a 380 SL 1984 double raw chain).

Yes I did replace the tensioner but it did not completely cure the noise, I ended up doing the chain as well because although it was within timing spec it was loose on the sprockets depending on timing position. After chain and upper sprockets were done noise is gone completely. Still working on the content for a video about this.

@@mazenkhazaal698 I used a Febi one. I read quite a few complaints about the Febi tensioner (failure of the oil passage and loss of pressure) but these seemed mostly to relate to the smaller later style part, whereas the 350 in the video is a 72 car. I couldn’t seem to find any issues reported on the early style Febi part and when I asked the SL Shop in the UK they said they would fit it in their workshop so was happy with that. I suspect for an 84 car you would have the later style so suggest go Mercedes for that, or just keep an eye on the Febi one and maybe change it again after 30k miles or so.

Just note, a Febi Tensioner will only last roughly 40k miles, I just bought a mercedes tensioner
