Thanks for your videos. I am using linux for most things. What program do you use for planetary and lunar capture. FireCapture runs on linux but I have one camera that only works with Sharpcap and Windows. Any other programs that you would suggest?

Hi Rob, same, I'm a mac use and this is super helpful as I was previously using a stacker inside a virtual machine on my (intel) mac. But now I'm M1 and just using Siril!

This is what I've been looking for! I have a full-frame mirrorless with a 100 - 400 telephoto, with a x2 converter, to get that larger moon image. I'm going to try your lesson out to see what I can get! Thanks for this!

Thanks, tried installing like 3 stackers to just try it out for the first time with some smartphone snaps through the eyepiece of the Sun and your explanation of Siril was the only thing that I could get to work.

Thanks for this! I want to try and stick with Mac-native software. And Siril is one of the better options it seems. The tutorial was really helpful.

Hi Rob, I am a computer/software retard. I have downloaded PSS onto my M1 Mac. However, Rolf, the designer of it, hasn't explained (that I can see anywhere) how one then opens it. There are folders and files I'm looking at in the PSS folder I have downloaded and I haven clue which to click to open the damned thing. Can you help? Thanks.

I dont have a mount that track the planet, so the planet is traveling from one side to the other in my video. Does Siril track the planets like PIPP does or do I need to have it tracked to process it?

Hi Rob, With Siril 1.2.0-rc1 some button are disappeared and "Go register" are disabled....
@steveward53
@steveward53 Год назад
Better to shoot individual RAW frame to stack than using the video on the 550D or any DSLR , you're losing about 3/4 of the available resolution. And Registax Wavelets are much more refined . It seems an OK software for quick rough imaging but the PIPP / AS!3 / Reg combination still rules the roost .

New to the hobby. Does a goto Dobsonian eliminate the need for an equatorial platform for astrophotography?
@wdavis6814
@wdavis6814 Год назад
This sort of mount uses the same equatorial principle that German equatorial mounts use; however, this sort of mount would be best suited for wide field astrophotography. If you're looking to photograph distant objects, like galaxies that aren't Andromeda, a proper polar alignment and autoguider are usually required to maintain the correct sidereal rate. There are excellent mounts, like iOptrons skyguider pro, that are still quite cheap. And there exists "Go-To" conversion kits (the $150 - $300 ones, not the cheapo plastic Celestron one) that do a phenomenal job if you want to buy a cheaper non-go-to mount to convert or just build your own.

I did actually build one about 6 years ago and it worked surprisingly well. It is a vertical north segment (VNS) design just like yours. The idea behind it's operation is very simple...until you try to make one! Good 3D CAD software saved me the horrible maths! \o/ Funnily enough, my design is remarkably similar to yours, but not as nicely finished. :)

You can repair your particle board holes where your feet attach with super glue and baking soda. Water resistant and soaks into the board and locks the fibers together.

Trouble converting my .MOV files of Jupiter. 1- Why would I get some mov converting one layer, others 3? On some of them I only get B&W, others RGB. All shot T2i in crop mode one after the other. Maybe because I was changing shutter speed and ISO between videos to play with exposure values? But in media player they are all in color. 2- Do I select debayer on the conversion tab when converting those .MOVs?
