Our trip in January and February we caught more fish than we can remember. I caught a few eelpout. I experienced my first meal of pout. Caught my first white fish. Several white fish came home ro smoke. All in all a pretty decent couple of days
We just got back from bostic Bay. The ice was fine but warmer weather was coming back in. The owners stated that they thought they would have to get the houses off the ice too weeks earlier than normal. Their houses are quite large so I'm not sure if Dale's might have more time
This review is very helpful as it answered a lot of questions I had about these cabins. I was wondering, when you used the cabins, were you guys catching decent amounts of fish? I plan on taking my two kids next year and I just want to make sure they’re gonna catch fish. I know it’s hard to predict, I just have read stories of some people booking sleeper houses and they barely caught anything and the owners did nothing to get them on the fish. I just hate to get their hopes up, driving 14 plus hours, for them to get skunked lol.
Very nice review. Definitely helping me out deciding where to plan for next year. I was wondering, is that shower area located right onshore and a nice easy drive to it? Planning ahead because Ill have two children with me. Thanks!
If you are talking about my chair that is the Millennium G100 Blind Chair and is very nice. I made a quick video about it here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pId_D9m6jkI.html
After having caught and eaten burbot up there, and moving to kentucky, making getting up there very difficult, a little part of me winces whenever I see one go back. They're so darn good!
Another classic! Chuck dominates the catching, Gary shows off his unique hookset dance/reel combination (while blocking the camera with perfection), and Joshua just needs a hug....again.
@@thegoodenoughangler I've open water fished on LOW a couple of times, but after stumbling across your uploads a while back I've added ice fishing through Dales to my bucket list. So if you ever need a 4th..... (yeah, now that I typed that I realize how creepy that sounds)
Between the chemistry you guys have, camera angles and lack of live scope, hands down my favorite ice videos. Been watching a few ice seasons now. Keep it up boys
Ha! Thank you for suffering through it. I didn't know if I even wanted to put this video out because it was such a brutal day but for all of us diehards I thought why not. Sometimes that's just what you get when you're in a sleeper house in the middle of a cold front.
I was wondering the same thing. I haven't heard anything but that seems to be around the area that they are usually. I will let you know if I hear anything.
I did hear that Dale's houses were on the safe side of the 250 ft opening. However, they move them even closer to shore to be extra careful. I heard they were sitting on 18 feet of water and waiting for everything to freeze up before it was safe to move them out to deeper spots.
@@thegoodenoughangler I talked to Connie last night confirming our 2025 reservations. She said the crack was froze and two of their people were going across on snowmobiles to check and mark paths on the other side of it so they can move when the ice in the crack is thick enough. where they are sitting now they have been having a good perch bite. Good cold weather coming the next two weeks to make a lot of ice.😀
Was this the weekend you went to Dale's? If so how thick was the ice and the fishing. I have guys in the group that are worrying that we won't be there this year since we are there the second weekend of March. This has been a weird weather year.
@@galenerdmann6259 very weird year. We had at least 18 to 24" of ice. With the warm weather there could be some more issues but lets hope for colder weather.
What time of year do you typically go? How far in advance do you have to book your trip to ensure availability. Have been to zipple a handful of times but really interested in checking Dales out in the future.
I try to go up three times a year. If I can get in at Dale's I would prefer it and second choice is usually Sportsman's although you need to bring your own generator there. I always go on the weekends so I typically am scheduling two years out just to make sure to get my dates. However, it is always worth calling or emailing as they have ppl cancel or openings during the week. (Dale's not sportsman's. Sportsman's has a lot of houses so a few months in advance is usually enough and always worth calling to check on openings) A buddy of mine just got back and was at Sean's birch view resort. We went there years ago and caught a lot of fish but it was a bit unkept. My buddy said that it was very clean this time around. We go mid Jan, first weekend of Feb and mid Feb. I think end of Dec is best but it is always a roll of the dice with ice. I hope that helps.
Earplugs are a very underrated item to bring on a fishing trip. I always warn the new people on my trip to bring earplugs because I'm the one thats doing the snoring. Lifting your flasher is another great thing we have learned over the years.
For washing dishes, looks like you use a jug of water? We've struggled with this before because we bring a case of bottle water but just seemed to waste drinking water to do dishes since you need a good amount to soak a pot at times.
We got to watch three football games that day. Probably the most satisfying day I've ever had ice fishing. None of those games were Vikings and thank goodness or that would have ruined it 🙂. I think yesterday's game against the raiders could be the worst football game I've ever seen in my entire life
I know they supply water, but is there a water heater in it? Just curious if washing dishes, etc. has to be heated on the stove, or if it's at the tap.
They do not have a hot water heater. They replace "culligan type" fresh water as needed. I could not remember if they had hot water so I emailed Jill and she got back to me in a few minutes. She is great with communication so if you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out to her. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for here videos .My friend’s and I are retired and stuck with Pa. winters that don’t supply much ice anymore . We’ve been flirting with making a trip to Lake of the woods . Thank you .
I've always dreamed that when I retire I will build a ice house and live out on Lake of the woods for January and February every year. Kind of ridiculous. Most people want to go south. 😂
The house is 12 ft so you can fit four on the bottom bunks. I wouldn't fish more than four in the house myself. They have a very small ceiling fan in the middle of the house to push down the cold air. We had one person that choose to sleep up top and they didn't complain about the heat but I would assume it would be warmer.
