Fun video. I heard you were at Dale's as we were leaving on 1/16 as Connie had your videos playing. Anyways, I just thought I'd share how we run our contests. We do a $80 buy in for 4 guys. For each day (3 days fishing) the person who catches the most fish, regardless of species, wins the pot of $80 per day. The grand champion of the trip is determined by the following formula: Walleye/Sauger are worth one point. Bonus fish of any species are worth 2 points. Everyone records their largest fish of each species caught to the nearest quarter inch and also adds those points in. So, on this trip last week, one of my buddies won everyday with the fish count but in the end, I won overall because I pulled in a 31" burbot off a tip-up. Just a different way to play the game because one guy might be having a hard time catching the target fish but might just catch a huge bonus fish or even a mess of perch, tullibee, burbot and whatever and win the overall contest.
We usually throw in 10 bucks for each person. Longest Walleye/Sauger, longest Burbot and longest “Other” each get 1/3 of the pot. If there’s no Burbot or Other caught, then we split 50/50 for first/second longest.
Not a bad system but we found it's also nice to reward someone who may be dominating catching fish but they just end up smaller. It's also fun to break it up by days so you may have a bad day but can redeem yourself the next day. Or like me, be marginally average the whole trip but one fish pushes you over the top.
I love this! We've been kicking around new ways to do things which led to the daily tournament instead of the weekend tournament. But we also are looking at changing up scoring. I love hearing how other people are doing it!
They do not have a website but they do have a Facebook page with their contact info. I just linked it to the day one video. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
The people running the place where a super nice family as well. I was planning on making a video to overview the cabin and the people maybe I'll do that next year.
I love this question! Usually when I'm jigging I am using the lure tipped with a shiner head. During those times I always have a bobber on set about 6 in to 1 ft off the bottom. Many times if I let it sit there a fish will l come and get right on it and then once I start lifting it up it will chase and strike. Also there are times when I've had fish hit that without any jigging at all. The main reason I started doing this was out of laziness so if I needed to get up and stretch my back my lure was not on the bottom of a lake. Then one time when I did this I caught a 21-inch walleye that smoked it even though it wasn't active. So now I do it all the time unless of course I'm using rippin raps or jigging raps etc.
What brand and model is that folding swivel chair? I need a nice packable swiveling chair with arm rests like that. I can’t read a brand on the backrest. Thanks!
It's the millennial tree stand chair g100 saffordtrading.com/shop/hunting/blinds/blind-accessories/millennium-g100-shooting-chair/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAz9ieBhCIARIsACB0oGINDI7JFr-PHifRlIO8mDAA28ehbeTQ9EQIfo78rS-CWpsbRAfeHI8aAs2BEALw_wcB
@@galenerdmann6259 We struggled all three trips this year. Two at Dale's and one at Bostic with the family. Very low numbers each time. I've heard many people say the year has been difficult but we came in right as a cold front hit twice. Oh well it was still fun. You might have some good luck as weather hopefully will be more steady. Good luck!
@@thegoodenoughangler We just got back from Dale's. It was a tough bite with follows but no takers, even though the weather was steady. The quality of fish we caught was good just low numbers. We did manage a fish fry and 30 fish to bring home. Our best success was on deadsticks with gold, pink, or purple Gem Eyes. Always a good trip there
@@galenerdmann6259 Sounds like you did much better than we did. I am glad to hear that. Seems like it was a tough bite all winter. Let's hope next year is better!
They had a ceiling fan that really kept the air moving. There were no issues with overheating up top. I would say when you're on a bunk on the bottom it's good to have some sort of a liner underneath you. The cot alone would be a little bit cold
Got back Monday from our first trip. Pretty slow first day and a half but picked up on the last day. Nothing over 18 and a half except for burbot. Heading back up a week from tomorrow
