@redfernforest, I had some old red delicious (I don't kno if thats the actual name or brand of the apple) apples from Walmart sitting in my fridge for a little over a month, before I threw them out I took out some seeds, put them in a folded bounty paper towel inside a container without a lid, then hid them inside my oven so they could be in the dark and in room temperature, every other night I 'd spray the paper towel with water to keep them moist. It only took a week later for them to start sprouting.. Why did it take you 120 days to get sprouts in the fridge?
Just remember everybody, the trees are inheriting their grandparents genes, like humans. So, if you do this with, let’s say a Honeycrisp, you will not be growing a Honeycrisp tree. You’ll be getting either a Honeygold or a Macoun tree.
Yo dude, I was lamenting doing exactly what you were doing. Sit down and calmly watched your video for 7 minutes. It was therapeutic, LOL thank you - chipping away -
Hi is there a technique for removing weed membrane that is breaking up into tiny pieces? Just acquired an allotment plot in UK where its very wet. I ripped up one long strip exactly like you did with grass growing into it. This was thicker plasticky membrane. The broken up stuff more fabricky. 2 weeks in and I'm already disheartened!
Nice video! A little tip: when stratifying, sprinkle a little ceylon cinnamon on the seeds. I germinated mine in about 2 weeks with the cinnamon method!
Have you tried making this in a larger scale, like 5’x5’? I want to make one of these and cover it with thin net(to keep bugs out), for my plants that don’t need pollinators.
You can sprout those seeds, but the seeds wont be the same as the parent. Apples are grown from scions as far as I know. Those apples are usually good for ciderk like Johnny Appleseed did...
Very interested I set four seed all catch my tree is3ft high don't know what to do now, I need help it's growing in a20ins pot. I don't know what to do.help. pls
Love your video, I have Arkansas blacks from 100 year orchard. I am going to cold refrig now in Nov. Is there a possibility they will not produce the delicious apples from the mother plant?
So 4 months of stratification? I'm about 6-7 weeks in and i think I've seen the start of at least 1 root. I will be watching the rest of this series, thank you
I planted pear and apple seeds roughly 15 years ago. Not one of my 70 trees is providing edible fruit. The apples are crabapples, and the pears are bradford pears. This may be fun, and may produce mast for wildlife, but you're unlikely to get fruit you want to eat.
@@waylonlegend4603 I guess so. But based on my results, Bradfords are very good at pollenating everything. Maybe there's another explanation. I don't know.
So I have baby trees now that I need to transplant into bigger pots but obviously it's september, will they survive inside over the winter? I'm thinking I need to wait until next spring to plant them outside right?
Where are you from I am in Scotland Glasgow try the same plant and lots of different types of apple seeds all over an unused piece of ground to see what happens I would recommend you eat the apples and let the viewers know what they taste like and after letting of yours know what the apples taste like we plant the seeds and plant as many different apple seeds as you can see what you get keep up the great work enjoy the video just came across it today
