Thank you so much for this updated view of the panda yards - they look wonderful! If what has been done in the past with timing for panda departures/arrivals holds true, I think we can expect Bao Li and Qing Bao to arrive by early-to-mid-Nov at the latest. The FedEx ("Panda Express") policy has been to avoid shipping animals during the holiday season, including Thanksgiving... Too much competing plane traffic at that time. Just what you don't want is flight delays while you are carrying precious panda cargo!
Wow, outdoor enclosures look really cool!! Baoli and Qing bao's quarantine is almost over, so I think they will be heading to Washington soon. (But I still hope Xiao Qi ji goes back to Washington...😢)
Just finished ur video of the low land gorillas. Baby looks bigger when not on Mommas back. She looks very tiny when on Mommas back. This is a wonderful troop to watch. Thank u. Now for this video. The yards look great. I heard the asia trail was closed. I guess that was incorrect . I can't wait for them to arrive. Also, i left a message in ur IG account. Go take a peek when u have time
Thank you so much for your message. You made my day!! I responded in IG. Zahra still looks tiny, especially next to Mama. Today she was near Dad, too, and looked extra small!
This is fantastic news! Can't wait to watch the panda cams. I wonder if Bao Li & Qing Bao's arrival coincides somehow with the ATL pandas return sometime this month.💜🐼🐼💜 I also have a question maybe someone can answer... Will Bao Li & Qing Bao be together in the yards since they are young or will they live separately like Mei Xiang and Tian Tian? I didn't start following the pandas until Bei Bei's birth so I am unaware of how the new pair will live once they arrive. I ask this because Bao Li's older sister Dou Ban still lives with her "adopted brother/boyfriend". Thank you for sharing these great videos and pics both here and on Twitter. :) 💜🐼🐼💜
@vexia610 i know. Howdy windows are wonderful. Would have liked to have seen them together though. Qing Bao is used to living with other pandas. Bao Li not so much
Even though we have new pandas coming soon, my heart still hurts. I expect to see The Tians roaming around. Cheej up in the trees. Bao Li and Qing Bao better get here soon. The yards look wonderful. Great. video job
Love the pandas. Last ones I saw were in S Diego over a dozen years ago. Not to be snarky, but likely the panda keepers in native Szechuan missed the American keeper’s “advice “ . We thank them for a gesture which benefits all, especially the pandas.
Thanks for capturing some of the Beauty at the National Zoo!!- The Rock Creek Nat. Park is truly amazing (almost 1800 Acres of protected Forest surrounding the zoo!!)- I know Bao Li will be very happy & seems like an eager, bold Tree climber, just like his sweet mother!- 💞💖🐼
Such an exciting day - two young pandas are now on their way to the San Diego zoo! Flying in from China are the 4 (almost 5) year old male cub, Yun Chuan, and Xin Bao, the 3 year old female. I'm so glad for the folks in San Diego, they must be thrilled... And I hope we'll get the same kind of great news about pandas on a plane to DC in the near future!
So exciting to know that new pandas are coming!! Thank you so much for this video showing the work going on in the yards in anticipation of the new occupants. It made me teary just seeing the yards and remembering how much fun Qi Ji had while he was there! Can't wait to get familiar with the new cubbies and watch them experience their new home. 🥰
Again, these scenes brought back so many memories. I almost feel like I am in a time warp. I miss our old pandas so very much, but I am so excited to see new pandas arrive. I am excited to see all the changes to the habitats. Thanks for sharing this footage. Hoping all is well with you.
Would it have been easier if China sent one mate for QiJi to SNZ, rather than ship all Tian family to China. They have had a very hard time adjusting to new habitats and keepers. I believe they would have had room for all 4 too!
So excited the pandas are coming. But streams of tears run down my face seeing the empty enclosures of where our beloved bears were just 7 months ago. I soooo miss them all and being able to watch them on the panda cam. Glad we are able to see videos of Qi Ji everyday though in China. It certainly helps to see he is alright and eating well. We will all love our new bears as well. May Mei and Tian's grandson along with Qing Bao give us many cubs in the future. ❤
I am so excited and happy the pandas are returning to SNZ! However, seeing the footage of their empty enclosure and reminiscing about the Tians and good friends I met while here brings tears to my eyes. Thank you sis for posting the exciting construction and updates for us! Can’t wait to see you again! ❤❤❤🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🐼🐼🐼🥰🥰🥰
We are excited that panda is coming to the US. But why the DC zoo? I have been to the DC zoo and San Diego Zoo panda exhibit and San Diego has much better facilities than DC.
Also, San Diego had multiple successful natural pregnancies whereas the DC zoo relied heavily on artificial insemination, which is quite dangerous for the female panda.
The San Diego Zoo announced in Feb that they will be getting 2 new pandas, likely this summer - Yun Chuan and Xin Bao. Yun Chuan is the grandson of Bai Yun, who lived at the SD Zoo for 23 years. Xin Bao was born in China. I think it is also not a competition for which zoos receive pandas. Each zoo makes its own contributions. For example, the Smithsonian's Conservation Biology Institute’s Conservation Ecology Center (CEC) is globally recognized for its panda conservation programs and scientific research.
A lot of the greenery the camera is panning past is bamboo. I don't remember if there was always a noticeable amount of bamboo right outside the panda's outdoor habitats, or if some of those plantings are relatively recent. Either way, certainly seems appropriate to having it growing there. 😊
@@JollyMe22 , maybe the bamboo along the trails is mainly to help establish an environment appropriate for our bamboo-loving friends... With the additional value of being a potential source of food, if needed. I actually have no idea, just speculating... But I have seen nannies at the Wolong base in China literally go out into the greenery around Xiao Qi Ji's outdoor enclosure and cut down some bamboo to give to him. Handy placement! ☺
Planning, in case of labor issue. The pandas can search for food on their own. Forward thinking Americans! ❤❤❤❤ i think they're trying to mimic nature as much as possible. I can't wait. (Still miss XQJ and feel sorry he got way diminished quality of captivity life. Sorry XQJ. We humans need to d o better. ♡♡♡
I wouldn't try to answer for @PandasUnlimited... But for what it's worth, there may be a fairly long period of time when there are no updates to report. I can't find the article I read about the SNZ shipping Mei, Tian, and XQJ to China, but it discussed how time-consuming it is to get all the government authorizations and documentation in place, plus all the logistics for travel. Anyway, while all that is going on, there may not be much to report.... But not because nothing is happening.😌
