@@NEALSZ you either had one side unhooked or only one side moved. Buy one for a 2022 or newer. They are half the price and then they are absolutely the same part
Thank you!!! I get a renewed sense of hope for mankind when someone is kind enough to share detailed info like this! Great video..dealership wanted me to drop off truck for a MONTH - your video solved my problem 😊
I've got a leak with my F-150. Radiator leak. I can handle the repairs myself but your the master at those moon roofs and back glass! Thank you for sharing the knowledge my friend.
Kudos to you as before you have saved me thousands of dollars showing me how this moon roof works a recap my drive motor fell out of mesh one screw missing and the other two one tight and the other one falling out dealer wanted $3700 to replace the entire assembly I just paid 3 dollars for the missing screw and tightened with blue locktite and re calibrated it works as new 3 months now use it every day. I am losing my mind had the cat piss smell every time it rained found my 3rd brake light was leaking easy to see above the headliner now in a heavy downpour no leaks seen in all the problem spots you have indicated but the smell ensues no water around the back window no water in the sills even I sealed the rivets on the rubber trim at the back of the roof did not do as any one would filling under these they have a channel to drain to the back of the roof on both sides of the rivet I know I would create a issue. I am going to put sheets of paper above the headliner in the back and if no stains I am at a loss. Apparently the smell is from the headliner not the back wall covering any ideas this is a weird one any ideas would be awesome always a thumb up I would be lost without you keep up the good work.
Thanks so much for posting this video. Mine on my 2021 has been rattling like hell for a while and just came off (luckily shade was open when. It did). Will the shade work fine if I just leave it off? I don’t really care if the trim is there if it stops rattling and the shade opens and closes. I’m in Alberta so I’m sure it’s the sun and hot/cold cycles.
Sorry, I don't have one. They are available on Ebay or Amazon. The vendor I got these from no longer has them, and I haven't bought anymore so can't recommend anyone.
I have been arguing with my dealership about this issue in Canada and they keep telling me it’s normal. No right mind should think this is normal. I’m so glad you posted this video. I ordered this gasket and I’m going to get theses clowns to replace it. Is that on the passenger side. That’s where I’m having the issue
I gotta ask have you dealt with the wind deflector become musty moldy smell. Ever time it rains I’m getting this smell in the truck. And when you open the sunroof you can smell the odor coming from the fabric. I was told that ford designed the fabric an inch longer and now it sits in the drip tray and it got soaked with water every time it rains
@@TheBanks148 Nope. You can only buy a new glass for those. The good news is, the one they sell you now is the same one that is in the new ones, so the seal will be replaceable, unfortunately you just have to buy the glass first.
@SealofPerfection ok. I have another question. On days that it rains, I'm noticing a skunk like smell in my truck, but my sunroof is not leaking. Do you have an idea of what it could be? Seems like It's coming from the rear glass area.
@@TheBanks148 could be the rear glass. Could be the rear cabin vent. Less likely but could be the third brake light. Also could be the rear sunroof drains. If you look at my channel in the F-150 leaks playlist, I should cover just about all of that. How to check it, and fix it most of the time
Replaced my 2013 Explorer sunroof motor with the help of this video. It was a lot easier than I expected. Took me about 20 minutes by myself. Saved me about $400. Thank you sir
@@SealofPerfection the problems were mostly in corners and bends where the ospho accumulated, and was chalky. The ospho expanded and bubbled ,it looked like black rice crispy treats. I love ospho and por15 . I do the inside of fenders and body panels, they will last longer than me.
@@centralscrutinizer76 when my bed was upside down, I had Ospho in a spray bottle and I just flooded it down so it could reach the top of the bed while it was upside down. That was the only way I could get those places which I knew had surface rust on them at the minimum. So I am sure it pulled down there and may look like you described. I am actually thinking of using that Majik enamel that is oil-based you can buy from tractor supply, but it does have a hardener you can add to it and just pouring it down in there to try to cover it up. And then probably using fluid film or caviyy wax on it. Oil base may have a better chance of sticking to that stuff down in there that I can't get to. I just want all the insurance I can get
I see you pull out the cable and put a new one in. My question is how does it connect or disconnect? Is there something in the back i need to do? Ty, your vids are awesome
@@SkylarWilson-v7b yes the motor needs to be loosened so the gear disengages from the cables so they will move freely. One of my other videos on how to align the guides shows you how to loosen the motor
Had this exact problem last year on a 2022 F150 and it just reoccurred after heavy rain yesterday. Stumped me for a long time. I could find nothing on the internet at the time about it. Even had Safelite check a windshield replacement that they had done because by coincidence the leak started soon after. But it was not their fault. The first symptom I got is no airflow through the vents because the cabin filter got soaked and would not allow airflow through it. Finally one day last December I had the idea to put my phone on video with flash on and stick it up through the fresh air vent door opening from the inside that goes out to the cowling. (recycle must be off for this vent door to be open for access ) The video revealed standing water down in the lowest spot on the right, I cleaned this area out with my shop vac by adapting a smaller hose to it and feeding it down in there. Worked till now when the holes have become clogged again. So happy to find your video because I did not know that the drain hole under the hood was visible. And I prefer your clean-out method over mine, easier. I had thought I would have to disassemble the firewall or fender wall or something to get to the drain holes. I say drain holes plural because I’m pretty sure there’s a lower one than the one you point out. That point is about 2 inches I would guess above a lower drain hole. Today because of your video I used an about 18 inch crochet needle which I used many years to fish walls to run wires and cables. This time I used it in the hole that you showed. Then I bent it a little bit and stuck it up in, through the inside vent door and down into the cowling. By rotating It in different positions and poking it down in there I was able to feel it go in the lower hole. Ran some water in the cowling while doing all this. Cabin filter now setting in the summer drying out. Fingers crossed. Btw, last December I posted about this problem under the title Mystery Leak on f150forum.com , under GAllen ( there is a photo posted there of the inside of the cowling) One other comment: I never had water dripping on the floor mat, at least that I noticed. Just the air flow through my vents practically became nonexistent due to the soaked cabin filter.
Thank you so much for your videos! We successfully changed 2 broken arms and 2 cables guides by ourselves and didn’t have to drop the track. We were having what sounding like grinding from the motor when we would try to operate the sunroof and nothing would happen and it is still doing it after switching things out. Do you think maybe our motor is going bad? We initially thought maybe the cable was bound up somewhere, but now we know that is not the case. Mechanic we took it too didn’t know but seemed like he wasn’t interested in helping us.
@@aimeekatseanes6713 I wish I had a more concrete answer for you. I've had quite a few people give me the same report after doing the same repair. I've heard stories anywhere from the cables being too short and also not big enough diameter. I cannot verify either of those myself because I haven't seen it. I've had some people tell me that they had this problem and sent their cables back and got new ones and then they worked fine. I think the build quality is sketchy on this stuff
Thank you so much! You solved my sunroof issue!! My sunroof got busted a while back and I had it replaced but apparently the person didn’t clean up all of the broken glass and it clogged the sunroof drains.
I have a whole playlist on F-150's. I don't have a video on a shade specifically, but whatever you need is covered in the track replacement and/or guide adjustment videos.
Your videos are great and extremely helpful. My sun shade won't retract and is stuck closed. Is there a way to retract the shade after the headliner is removed?
@@Paul-w4k you can simply loosen the motor and carefully slide it back manually to wherever you want it and then tighten the motor back up. I have a video on how to align the guides, you can use that video and just loosen the sun shade motor instead of the sunroof motor
@@SealofPerfection the window closes and vent closes but not all the way if you look on top of the roof it looks like 1-2” that it needs to be raised up to be level w the roof
@@patriot-lady1804 That's why I did these videos, I about lost my mind trying to do a couple of different Fords and finally got the timing right, figured others might have the same issues.
@@kjhess1094 call some of the dealerships around there and see if they use anybody. Also look and see if there's a an interior shop or something that does sunroofs sometimes they do it as well
I have a 2013 ford escape 2.0 sel I’m not sure when it stopped working but I think it was when I changed the battery because we all know about the escapes power draw killing battery’s rite? But it hasn’t worked for a couple months I just tried this method and wasn’t able to get it to work I’ve checked every fuse in the car idk my next step would be to pull the control module out and make sure the connections are all good I’m just lost because the back lights are luminated but nothing works?
Control module is inside the motor. There isn't anything else in the circuit. Might try disconnecting the motor for awhile and then try the initialization again.
YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Thank you for your detailed video instructions. I had 2 broken arms, a broken drip channel and one broken cable guide on my 2015 f150. I watched all of your videos multiple times. I purchased the cable guides, arms and drip channel and installed the cables without dropping the track. I started the project at 1pm and finished at 3:30pm. I successfully initialized it and everything works thanks to you!!!
Thanks for the video. My wife's 2019 just leaked the other day for the first time. I'm guessing that the drains are clogged (hopefully) but if not, now I'll know were to look next.
Any idea what to do if the buttons do not respond to the initialization? Map lights turn on but none of the buttons seem to work the roof or shade? Mechanic said the motors are receiving the electrical signal.
@@TomMc-x6o the shade and the sunroof buttons both don't work? And we are 100% sure that both Motors are still plugged in? Because neither will work if one is unplugged and if somebody was messing with it one might be unplugged
@@SealofPerfection Neither button will work, not the vent, back, forward or the shade buttons. I can't verify they arebut that is what the mechanic said, at least it is a starting point. Thank you.
@@TomMc-x6o you can just pull the headliner down in the rear and look at the two Motors and see if they are plugged in. Just grab it at the opening at the rear of the sunroof, and reach up in there you will see the magnets that hold it to the track, grab it right around the magnets and pop it down you should be able to look right at the motors and see if they are plugged in
What was wrong with the track that it needed replacing? I have a rattle in the rear drivers side...going to try lubing the seals...also reinitiallized the sunroof and it helped a bit but wont know til the seals are relubed...thanks for all of the videos they have been a great help!
You can either drop the motor and close it manually by removing the glass, or swap the motors and use the shade motor to close it. Both must be plugged in for either to work, though
Thanks mann! 2 weeks with the dealer and service department and they had scheduled to remove the entire roof to investigate further and just tested it after applying this fix and not a single creek. Wow!! awesome video!!
I have a 2019 Lincoln Navigator and I try but I can't. The first 5 buttons are the same, the last one is different, it has a drawing of a seat so it can be lowered.
Thanks for the videos. They really help. However, the plastic part (the one which has the spring for the trough) you mentioned "is not available" is the one broken on my sunroof. Now what are my options?
