This channel is for anyone who paints paintings and deals with visual arts - especially the abstract paintings. Here I show my way of working, my process and my experiences around creating a painting.
Once again, another very engaging vlog capped off by your beautifu painting. I really value the information you share and your approach to your practices. Johannes Itten was a fabulously talented teacher, so glad to see that you referenced his work.
Great video as always, thank you - it’s always good to see a new one appear. 🙏 I learned a lot about composition…but, as they say, rules are made to be broken! The colour mixing was useful too as it’s a constant fascination and opportunity to learn. Wonderful waves! Again, a constant source of wonder.
Wonderful video! I am 73 and have been painting for about 10 years. Recently, I have been drawn to more abstract work as I’m getting bored with traditional looking paintings. I love the graphic style that you embrace and this video was perfectly edited and very well done and enjoyable to watch! I have subscribed and look forward to seeing all your videos.
Hi David, I don't mix a lot of color. You can see how much is in my glass bowl. That is usually enough. That's about the equivalent of a teaspoon. Finding just the right shade if you run out of paint is of course a little tricky, but now that you only mix 2-3 colors, it can easily be done ... if you practice your eye. Remember that acrylic dry up somewhat darker than when they are wet. Also, it's only necessary if you have to cover a larger area. The small areas I paint are very well covered with a color that is "almost" right. Good luck.
There are no stupid questions. When you stack them, they seal each other, so the paint stays wet. Finally, I use a water atomizer and then put an inverted plastic box over the glass bowls, when I take a break. It is also an option to make a wet pallet. You can easily find out how on YT.
I was just thinking of you and your beautiful work. Thanks for making the process as amazing as your stunning composition! The push and pull of the pieces as well as the geometric contrasting is breath taking and truly masterful. It's wonderful for you to share your joy and enthusiasm for creativity with the world! 🧡💙💜
Henrik, you absolutely thrill me in my creative being. I love your style and method. I plan to work with some cold wax and oils to create my own style from your use of color and structure like yours. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent with us.
When you changed the color of the 'sky' I was reminded of something the interior designers say. It's only paint, you can always paint over it. And you were right. I will endeavor to be bold. Thank you Sir.
I have never had an art class in my life and now that I’m nearly old 😊, I have the urge to do something creative. Your videos are inspiring and I absolutely love your art. Thank you so very much.
I think that to be a great abstract painter requires more than slapdash painting application. You put so much thought and work into the composition and colors which result in paintings that clearly demonstrate how difficult it is to get great abstract paintings. Thank you.
Thank you for this video, and the painting, as always, is gorgeous. When mixing your colors in your little bowls, with what medium do you mix into the paint? Do you cover them so you can use them in your next session? Thank you so much.
Hi, I really only use water. Sometime I use Acrylic Glasing Liquid, but only sometimes. Water only in this painting. I stack the bowls and use an atomizer before I cover them with a plastic box ... sort of a lit. I usen for seveeral sessions.
I just love learning and listening to you. Your creativity is apsolutely beautiful. I just so wish I can do something like yours. I'm 69 started painting 3 years ago and love it ty so much❤
Creating an abstract piece that people want to keep looking at -- specifically a non-figurative/non-representational one -- must be incredibly difficult. Such an excellent video. I really appreciate the description of how our brains react to abstract art, figurative (finding a match) and non-figurative (open to other things after failing to find a match or a pattern). I also appreciate the down-to-earth take on inspiration. The historical references and photos are great and really round out the video.
Digging the Bauhaus color wheel. On the six prinaries, it might help beginners if you specify which cadmium yellow -- med or deep? (I'm guessing since those are the more orange.) Same for cadmium red (light?). A quick mention of matte and gloss medium, aside from the airbrush medium, might help too. This is a wonderful video. Your presentation of the information is very clear, effective, and enjoyable to watch. Your paintings are wonderful.
Just the video I needed for the stage I'm in now! I've done a couple of paintings that I really dislike, but I did learn from doing them. Can't wait to get into the studio again!
Hi Henrik, Thank you for sharing your process! It’s encouraging to hear insights from a fellow abstract artist about process and developing style! I’m enjoying your videos. 💜 from Canada!
@@skora-theoldguy Thanks Henrik! My work has evolved quite a bit since my first RU-vid videos. (You can see them on my website.) I am currently exploring incorporating some new processes…and found you. I appreciate how you defined “style”. Best wishes!
This was so helpful. I’ve become frustrated because I felt today that even though I’ve been productive I don’t have a lot to show, and have piles of incomplete work. I get tired of working on a painting and leave it alone- only learn that I can’t get back into it-
