I'm a full-time Naval Aviator and part-time adventurer/overlander with my family in my Jeep Wrangler.
What's with the name? "Rhino" is the nickname that pilots give the F/A-18 Super Hornet, thus "Rhino Offroad" blends my passion for flight with the pursuit of adventure.
RU-vid has been an incredible creative outlet, and I look forward to bringing you along on our adventurers.
Hey, Bluetti just came out with a great-looking DC to DC converter made for power supplies (like their own but not exclusive to Bluetti). It can provide in the range of 500 watts (!) and looks very simple to install. Worth checking out if you're charging a big power bank.
Another cheap way would be to just get an inverter. A 300 Watt inverter would be pretty cheap. Then just plug that into your cigarette lighter and plug the power unit's A/C charger to that.
@@RhinoOffroad yeah I just looked it up and it seems that around 120-150 watts is all they can put out. I think that’s still higher than what the car plug that usually comes with power stations put out. It may still be an option for smaller power stations.
luv the 250 watt panel.. just fits roof rack.. charges 200 amp hr. lithum. 2k inverter for fridge/induction plate cooker/ electric blankets etc.. no more propane... keeps started /winch batt topped off as well... DC runs lights/ coms/ 100 watt bluetooth w/ subwoof.. thanks.
The jackassery of this is that he is using a car battery. If you have a truck that has a place for a second battery, you would put in a deep cycle marine battery which is made to be run all the way down .
Ooh you have the same circuit breaker on your battery like i have! After i bought mine i saw videos on RU-vid saying those particular circuit breakers are not very good! ( false security) APPARENTLY! cheers 👍
TIP: i learned over a few years that a lead acid battery is better then a gel. Reason is it can be charged much faster and survive frequent starts through the winter. I have a $100 lead acid from Home Depot that outperforms 3 different gel types. Red top, yellow top, and odessy.
AGMs are much better suited for cold weather operations and can withstand freezing temps much better (which is where I do most of my offloading honestly)
I don't hook up anything to my car battery that isn't OEM intended for its system. Every time I have done this I've blown the alternator and battery in a tenth of the time
If you're going to run your car engine for a period of time to charge your bluetti battery bank, you might as well get a small generator (2000 watts) and charge at full A/C power.
Can’t you just charge your battery with a 12v car adapter? While your driving? I’m not saying this isn’t cool but it’s just while you’re driving and you can use cigarette 12v adapters.
I got the two pieces 3d printed but the neck doesn't fit tightly onto the cap where it is sturdy/secure. 30 minutes after putting my electric pump/faucet, the neck fell off the cap and onto the dirt ground. Gonna have to think of something else to secure my water pump to my scepter containers.
Yes, your vehicle's engine is an alternative to solar...but now you're burning fossil fuels to generate your amps. You've just turned your Jeep into a generator...so from one perspective you actually have a MUCH more expensive alternative. A $32k+ alternative.
Sorry for Russian, but my English not very good. Мне кажется, что во время зарядки дополнительного аккумулятора не будет заряжаться основанной аккумулятор, либо его разряд будет происходить быстрее чем его зарядка
if its compressor fridge your setting up for failure but its still only doing 6 amps at start up maybe 45 watts or 2 amps after that. and its not always on...
Why not just run your load off the car battery? It would be nice if the battery bank had a way to just disconnect its battery and only draw the external power needed to power the current load.
12.0v is like 30% state of charge. Could be a problem cranking on a cold morning and for sure will reduce life of battery. Reset it to at least 12.55v and the battery will stay at 75% state of charge. Very well presented video.
double pullies, add a alternator,,,,,,we have huge engines so can brag 0to60 vs completion.....so use it.....we build carbon in our engines because we are idling to get good mpg so we can 0to 60 the world to death ...and, carboning to death
Not all vehicles have one, but why not use the built-in AC jack to charge up your bluetti? I have a 140w AC port built into the console of my '11 F150 and use it to charge my EB70S or 12v jumper pack while commuting to work every week (6hrs one-way). Or, pick up a 300w inverter that plugs into your cig lighter. They're cheap and all over eBay or Amazon. Sure, you'll have efficiency losses, but the point is to make it cheap and easy. Right?
Set up an alternate power system for your truck, integrating solar power and the components you've listed (second alternator, 12-24V step-up converter, low voltage cutoff, circuit breaker, and high gauge wire), you’ll create a hybrid system. This system can charge an auxiliary battery bank, which can power various accessories without draining your primary battery.
