Finding a Lost California Gold Mine in the Sierra Nevada || Part One

In 1883, six miners found gold at the Providence Mine in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. This mine has long disappeared from all maps and mention, except for an earlier 1900s topo map. In this episode, my son and I set out by Jeep and foot to find this long lost mine, and see if there's any evidence of its existence left.
This video will be split into a two-part series, as I try and include a lot of uncut footage to bring you into the experience with us. Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing! I live a little north from there! I love California History, especially the Gold Rush! I love adventuring off road. Your video inspires me to get back into hiking after almost becoming paralyzed from the neck down. Thanks again!!

I remember my first father-son camping trip. My oldest boy was 3 at the time and we went out into south western Queensland here in Australia and had a fantastic time fishing and exploring old car wrecks and playing in the mud - my son took the worms after the first cast and insisted on carrying them for the rest of the day - no more fishing after that! Since then I have been camping probably 40-50 times with both my sons - now 11 and 9. All over, remote, island, beach. My wife comes along about a 3rd of the time too. It is so fantastic - so good for their spirit and our bonds. Keep it up! Boys NEED their fathers and the NEED to do dangerous things safely to grow into good strong men 👍🏻 🇦🇺

100% agree. I think the wilderness teaches a ton of lessons that you simply can't learn just sitting in class. Appreciate you reaching out 🤙

I dunno, kinda thought the same, but then the video I watched before this was of a man who just had his jaw reattached surgically from a bear attack. So I don’t think it would be worth bringing the kids.

@@OutsideHumanmost likely a black bears which are more aggressive and not in the sierra nevadas. I'd be more worried about cougars and people, which has never stopped me from bringing my daughters.

I think 6 men trying to protect a mine could stack a ton of rock in a hurry 👀👀 I think you are on to something.

I think you are close Kevin, those small mounds might have been tailings from exploratory pits. Great video!

I wonder if there was a light rail nearby that was used to transport tailings out of the mine. I am enjoying the storytelling.
