I do this but put the butt end of putter more straight back (no forward press). I also address the ball off my front foot which gives me a feeling of hitting up on the ball. My left hand is under the grip facing the sky and right hand perpendicular to the target line. I use a mallet putter with a double bend shaft that I loosened the epoxy to adjust to my sight preference. I then re-epoxied and was perfect for my setup position. Thanks for the upload.
Michael Breed... you are simply amazing... All my respect and admiration !!! I'm 67 and hit the ball some 250 with no hip turn... I'll check it out this week... Arthritis is the problem though !!
That’s a cool illustration. For all those that listen to classic rock, that’s how drummers like John Bonham get so much power - they snap their wrists - not just using their arms!
Jack Nicklaus had a great ‘rule of thumb’ tip for this in “Golf My Way” he said came from his coach Jack Grout. For width insides of ankles under armpits /| |\ , but never so wide a lateral shift of the pelvis will cause the pelvis to sway beyond the outsides of the feet. It allows lateral movement without loss of balance.
Hi Micheal, my old irons were 2 degrees flat & kept hitting the ball right.. now my new clubs are 2 degrees up.. and I’m hitting everything left. I’ve been in trackman and can’t seem to fix it.. path is good but the face is 2-4 degrees closed at impact. Tried more neutral grip.. nothing is working..
Hi Mike.this is great timing for me as I'm definitely losing flexibility.im 54 and my driver is down to 190 yards.can I ask if this tip is with the irons too.thanks for all the help you offer.
The problem are the words 'Open' and 'Closed' clubface at the top of the backswing . It means nothing unless you say " relative to.............." ??????. What is it closed relative to? It's definitely not open or closed relative to swing path is it? Also, say the golfer retained that cupped wrist approaching impact , where do you think the clubface will be pointing? It will be pointing left of ball -target line , not right . So Michael's assumption that the clubface being 'open' (whatever that means) at the top of the backswing will also mean it will be open to 'club path' approaching impact does not tie together.
I love Michael Breed He was all over Golf Channel few years ago he probably priced himself out their budget. He’s a tremendous teacher. He was club pro by me in Westchester NY at one of the big clubs. Quaker Ridge maybe before Golf Channel. He’s one of the best.
You are so right. Im 59. I was always a short hitter. Driver 200 or so. 5 iron 160. I found lag and release because of the hip turn. I was always hitting at the ball. Now with an extended extention, a tucked trail elbow and leading with my legs and hios first actually snaps the club to contact. I couldn't do that or even understand the feeling until 2 weeks ago. Wow...what a difference. Everything is longer now and I have been rolling off the back of greens rather than plopping short. Ball flight is lower and some great looking golf shots. Move those sexy hips!
Michael, you used to use a conventional reverse overlap putting grip with right hand low. In this video you are now left hand low. Why the change? You’ve always been a great putter. This putting lesson is exactly what I needed to hear.
Love your videos normally #michaelbreed. Unfortunately this is not one of those videos. Apparently you have no idea about edlerly. Take Jack Nicklaus for example. He can't hit normally as far as he used to, primarily because of father time has caught up with him, not lack of knowledge. Next time think about elderly who who had neck fusion surgery, should surgeries, hip replacements, and/ot knee replacements. It not pretty playing with father time.
Hi Michael. Thanks, your content is so user-friendly and not over loaded. It's the best site for golf tips imo. Really helpful. I noticed you changed ball during the lesson from ProV1 to ProV1X. I'm a 9 handicapper and to be honest I don't pay much attention to which ball I use. Obviously, I go for better branded balls but I could easily play 3-4 different balls during a round on some days. Could you please do a lesson on how a couple of different spec balls affect your shots with the driver?
Mr Micheal breed , I have Titleist 300 irons: 60,56,P,4,5,6,7,8,9 and Driver ‘10, ‘5Woods 21’ ,Hybrid 5 ( Scotty CameronSpecial NEWPORT 2 I ( I only have 11)???
The reason your strike is poor is because you’re trying to “rotate” your lead hip faster, this increasing centrifugal force, and subsequently making the club face unstable. The idea that you want to “give yourself three” tries is misleading, IMO. You’re basically saying do it until you time it. Problem is, that timing is never the same so the player is basically doomed to struggle with timing up that move. Rotation is not your friend, and shouldn’t be the power source in the golf swing.
Great tips for gaining club and ball speed. What’s unique about this approach is you are focusing on hip rotation. There are many ways to gain speed, however most video instructions recently focus on using various ground forces instead which seems much more difficult and unnatural. I’m going to focus on hip rotation in my quest to gain distance with driver. I’m 60 years old but cant seem to achieve club head speed above 75-80mph. Thank you for your detailed swing lessons and tips.
This is a great lesson, Michael. I just turned 60, and have noticed my swing speed and distance diminishing over the past few years. I'm also getting stiff in the low back and hips which I'm certain is a factor. I'm going to work on this movement in my next practice session and believe it will help. Thanks for your videos.
Most amateurs do not have your ability. So Instead of gripping down on your 3 wood, why not just take a 5 wood , grip normally and play the ball 1” back in your stance.
Micheal are you losing accuracy? From swinging faster.. or have a tendency to come over the top?.. I seem to lose quite a bit of accuracy or pulls..thanks
I love you Michael BUT this was more an advertisement than instructional video!!! I spent the whole tournament weekend knee buckling over my shanky vokey wedges and needed a lil more than you trying to sell me two more of them. 😂
This tip has been a game changer for me in my last few rounds! I even had a few chip in’s around the greens. One thing I have been struggling with while implementing this technique though are weird lies, especially ball below/above my feet. Do you have any tips Michael on using this technique for such lies?
Thanks Mr. Breed. I struggled with this today launching long irons on approach shots with some into the wind and others not. It was frustrating to see the ball flight be weak and not have the power or yardage to reach the green. I have wrote these tips down and will be practicing this for the next round!
I did this Long Thumb back in 1965 when I was 21 and it Change My Golf !!! Also the Ball Go's Much Straighter using the back of the LEFT Hand as a GUIDE !!!
I came across this video at 4am this morning. It made sense, looked simple and even a guy like me whose only goal is to break 100 can do it. At 430am I tried this in my back yard hitting about 20 balls off of a practice mat. I couldn’t really judge the roll out but every ball came off of the club face in a manner I never experienced. At 430pm I came off the 18th green just a few missed putts from breaking 90. It was my first round in which I didn’t have any two or three chips, I beat my lowest score ever by 4 strokes and it was the first round I ever had just one three putt (for bogey). I didn’t drive the ball better or further, I didn’t hit approach shots any better but my playing partners all said, they never saw me chip so many balls that close to the hole. WOW and THANK YOU!
